Cheney to greet soldiers returning from Iraq...OH BOY!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051206/ap_on_go_pr_wh/cheney_iraq;_ylt=AhhA3MpOuDryQQc.Ed4Z5wWs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3OXIzMDMzBHNlYwM3MDM-

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney, the point man in the administration's counteroffensive against war critics, to greet troops recently back from Iraq as part of a concerted effort to shore up slumping public support for the war.

Cheney was traveling Tuesday to Fort Drum in northern New York to speak at a rally for the Army's 10th Mountain Division and the New York Army National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division.

The Troy, N.Y.-based 42nd Infantry, whose commander oversaw a task force of 24,000 troops in north-central Iraq, had about 3,500 guardsmen return home in November.

The vice president's appearances, which include a rally and a sit-down with troops, are part of a series of speeches by top administration officials intended to spell out U.S. goals in Iraq more clearly in the run-up to Iraq's Dec. 15 elections to pick a permanent government.

3. Holy shit
Cheney will greet troops recently BACK from Iraq. Cheney is the only chickenhawk out of the bunch not to make a surprise visit to Iraq so meeting troops "halfway" is the compromise? Conservative are just fucking sick.

5. Someone tell these slaphappy PR mavens that this is about
2000+ dead, and 10,000+ injured too late. It smells like the stinking, craven, cynical political ploy it is.

6. Note that these are troops still in the military
They will be ordered to be there. Don't know if they can be ordered to smile and clap or not, but having seen other military audiences, I think they'll do as little as possible to show "support" for Cheney, which is the real purpose of the trip.

12. GFY 19% should be despised by the troops
The sneering snidely whiplash only likes profits and these troops mean nothing to him.

13. Welcome Home

The more I learn about these crooked bastards and how they used the troops
and lied to the public the more I want for these bastards to "get out"
and inter act with people .......

Please Dick why don't you go and meet with the troops in an unscripted
and unsupervised way and see what happens.

15. This is just like the Battle of Stalingrad .....
... where Hitler sent 250,000 troops off to die (6,000 made it back)
because he would not retreat and they were cut off and isolated
But as the end approached the nazis flew over that frozen hell hole
and dropped in medals to the troops.

At least we can still leave Iraq but 160,000 troops in a country
of 24 million of which 80% don't want you there and 40%+ thinks
killing Americans is a good idea is a plan for disaster and death.

A vet? Or Cheney?

Or did Cheney pre-emptively spit?

17. The *last* thing I would want to see upon returning is that hideous face.
After all he has done to the military and to the troops, I'm surprised he would dare to go near them. Let's see him try it after Ed Schultz has been on Armed Forces Radio for awhile! (Actually, I guess they would still cheer when they were ordered to.)

20. When will Cheney show up at Dover
to respectfully greet the troops returning in caskets?

Five deferments crashcart couldn't be bothered to see the cost of this clusterfuck.

I hope at one of these photo op "rallies" a brave soldier stands up and says loudly and to great applause, "Sir, fuck you, sir."

21. I can see the preparations now .....

Alright. You guys wanna go home early? Well, ya gotta attend a speech by the veep. Now here's the catch. Ya gotta be enthusiastic. Anybody who aint enthusiastic goes back for another tour.

Didn't we see this on the aircarft carrier when Shit-for-Brains showed up in his flight suit costume? Those sailors had to wait another day for this "Mission Accomplished" PR stunt after being away from their loved ones for months.
