So....why does the US keep those secrt CIA prisons secret?

I guess I'm missing the entire premise. Why wouldn't they just operate additional GITMO type jails, if there's nothing illegal going on? Why hide it from congress and the world?

Sure they must. Everybody gets secret torture prisons eventually. Some of these supposedly were used by the USSR--the Ol' Evil Empire itself. With that kind of provenance, how could you doubt their legitimacy? They are gin-yu-wine, fo'-real torture prisons, too legit to quit torturin', just like Abu Ghraib wasn't done with torture after we deposed Saddam.

The CIA isn't made up of jailers. They assigned it to the CIA to keep it secret, but what LEGITIMATE purpose could be asserted for it?
