Fox News dropped 21%

Has Faux News and cable news in general jumped the shark?

Nov. Ratings: FNC #5 In Primetime

In primetime for the month of November, "three networks -- TBS, Nick at Nite and Fox News Channel -- tied for fifth place with 1.5 ratings," Multichannel News notes. "TBS was flat and Nick at Nite was down 12%. Without the benefit of the presidential election, which was held last November, Fox News dropped 21%.

Similarly, Cable News Network saw a 22% decrease, registering a 0.7 rating in primetime. MSNBC was flat with a 0.4."

6. Ratings between Turkey Day and New Year's always take a dive
Everyone is out shopping, going to office parties, getting their act together for the holidays, whatever.

What is interesting is that MSNBC, though they have the smallest share, stayed flat. The few people watching the cables at all are going over there, it looks like--surely not all of their regular viewers are ALL sitting home during this timeframe.

16. But that's almost ONE QUARTER of their viewers!
Yikes. Seems something larger than the holidays.

18. This is for entire month of November
So it can't be all cause of Turkey Day. The article blames it on the fact they had higher ratings because of the election last year. But then election day 2004 was on Nov 2nd which is very early in the month.

I think some of their viewers are swearing off the koolaid.

11. Someone needs to tell MSNBC to get their station on basic cable
A friend from Oklahoma watches FOX because she can't get MSNBC. She has looked all over for it.

I don't remember if MSNBC came with the "premium' option but I doubt it. If they make sure all their areas are covered I bet they end up in first place.

Most of this country is Democrat and I can't believe people want to watch O' Reilly except for a laugh.

14. Great Idea
I think that is a great idea. I keep wanting to drop back to basic cable to save money, but I don't do it because I'd have to give up Keith Olbermann. Boy, I wish they would do that.

12. Does anyone happen to know how many people a 0.7 rating equals?
Just curious how many eyeballs are actually viewing Fox during primetime.

13. need a lot more information to assess how they're doing
The fact that they've dropped significantly from Nov 2004, when there was a presidential election pumping up viewership, doesn't tell you much. For example, how does Nov 2005 compare to Nov 2003? How does it compare to October or September 2005? Even those comparisons are dicey because of the hurricane. How are they doing vis a vis other networks?

I hope they collapse but I'm not going to get all excited about one isolated number.

17. I wasn't suggesting anyone should get "all excited"
but merely putting the information out there for discussion.

There is a link in the article that leads to a more indepth analysis of the overall picture, for those that would like more information.

folks should get excited. Rather, I was just cautioning those who might get excited about it.

19. The presidential election last year was on Nov 2nd
Very early in the month. So how much of last year's viewership did it account for?

23. I will be happy when they are all being ass-raped in the street
...as punishment for trying to turn our country into Nazi Germany. There is no excuse for their vile, awful behavior. Why so many rednecks watch Faux "news" shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

24. Overall, I find MSNBC the best.
Keith Olbermann rules. I find Tweety OK, despite numerous disparaging comments here. Ron Reagan is great, and Monica is apparently on her way out. Scarborough you can just ignore.
