If you want to chat anytime, please do. Be warned, I am pretty straightforward about when it gets better (it does not), when you get mad (I have not yet), who you will blame (you will), etc.

Blessings to you.

39. What a beautiful lady your mother was, in every way.
I share your sense of loss and sadness and while I would not be so bold as to say I know how you feel, I do know the sorrow of losing someone dearly loved, especially a mother. May I share this with you? My mom died a little over two years ago, and even now she appears to me in my dreams with great frequency. In a way, it's as though she is still with me, watching over me and a part of her will never truly be gone. May you take some comfort remembering all the years your mother was with you and the joy she brought you and that you gave to her.

Blessings.

193. make sure you do that
your dad will be glad you did and i am sure you will gain a lot of wisdom from your dad.

also, be sure you have things set up ahead of time with doctors and hospice care. we thought we did but things deteriorated very quickly for my mom after she got into the hospital on monday and she had some very bad pain on wednesday that we and the hospital were not prepared to deal with quickly enough. no one should need to deal with that in a hospital. thankfully a friend of my mom's who has owned and operated a nursing home for over 25 years and another friend from childhood who is a PA were at the hospital at the time and knew what needed to be done and got the hospital to get into action quickly. i just wish we were more prepared for her ahead of time.

58. I know it hurts beyond any expression of words.
I can see you have many friends on DU and I just saw your post on your mom. Please know that in time, and I can not say when it will be, you will have less hurt and more joy of remembering the wonderful times like in your picture you posted. I know because I lost my 26 year old son, my mother in law, my dad, my dog and my husband all within 17 months. The hurt of loss never really goes away but it becomes softer than the agonizing silent cry we feel in our heart when we think of them when they first pass on. May you have much support and know others care. I do.

But losing a child is so out of the order of things.

That advice is especially meaningful coming from someone with your experience. I'm so truly sorry for your sorrow as well as for tk2kewl's.

I think you're right... the pain does become softer. After a while it's no longer feels like a body blow to think of your loved one and realize they're gone... it does take some time, though.

Mrs. Keane sounds like such a lovely woman whom it would have been an honor to know.

197. wow...
i am glad you have a support network. you must have wondered if you would ever find peace. i don't know why the world can be so cruel. and how knowing it can be so, so many people still don't give a damn and pursue personal wealth and power rather than help others. we all deserve caring and have an obligation (hopefully a desire) to provide it to others.

thank you so much for your caring thoughts

64. No one who hasn't experienced a death of a parent can understand
its profound impact. In addition to the mourning and sadness, there are unexpected blows. Suddenly we are on our own, with no one who knows us from infancy. Suddenly, psychologically, we have to join the older generation, whatever our age.

Sometimes when a mother dies, another impact is that the family communication weakens. Often the matriarch is the one who sees to it that all the uncles and aunts and cousins are in the loop and keep their ties alive. When this happens, someone else must step in to take over that role.

My heart goes out to you and your family. She looks like a lovely, warm woman and will obviously leave an unfillable gap.

The older I get the more I appreciate family. It is (should be) our shelter. Makes the loss so much harder.

You never get over it. My father died two years ago. He had one of those lingering illnesses and deaths and for a long time I could only remember him when he was ill and dying. Over time those memories have faded and I most often remember the good times. Hopefully that will happen for you too.

90. Condolences. You will always miss her
and always love her.
The pain eases.

I lost my mom in 1990. For years I still reached for the phone to call her.

As soon as my mom died several people had a vision or dream of her, not all even knew she was dying. They all had in common her smiling or laughing and "JOY" as well as FREE or freedom.

I know that is true. Your mom is still smiling and her love flows freely.

But still we miss them her.

Peace to you all.

OLD SOULS

by Paul Williams

Our love is an old love.
It’s older than all our years.
I have seen in strange young eyes
familiar tears.

We’re old souls in a new life.
They gave us a new life to live and learn.
Some time to touch old friends
and still return.

Our paths have crossed and parted.
This love was started
long, long ago.
In its story lives are pages.
Fill them up.
May ours turn slow.

Our love is a strong love.
We give it all and still receive.
So with empty arms
we must still believe.

All souls last forever
So we need never fear goodbye.
A kiss when you must go.
No tears....
In time we kiss hello.

118. ...if we never meet again this side of heaven
If We Never Meet Again This Side Of Heaven

Soon we'll come to the end of life's journey
And perhaps we'll never meet anymore
'Til we gather in heaven's bright city
Far away on that beautiful shore

If we never meet again this side of heaven
As we struggle through this world and its strife
There's another meeting place somewhere in heaven
By the river of life

Where the charming roses bloom forever
And where separation come no more
If we never meet again this side of heaven
I will meet you on that beautiful shore

Oh so often we are parted with sorrow
And action often quietens our pain
But we never shall sorrow in heaven
God be with you till we meet again

.....my deepest sympathies

My Mom passed away Oct. 10 of 2005.

May 27 1934-Oct 10 2005

5.5 years ago she found out she had Ovarian Cancer. She fought it hard. My Dad said that she set 3 goals:

1. See her 70th birthday
2. See her 50th wedding anniversary.
3. See her only grandson turn 5.

She saw all three before she died.

We miss her too!

a tribute to your mom! Just do what you can, chill out, don't try to
be super person and anyone that gives you a hard time, put them on
the other side of your emotional barrier. They will come out of the
woodwork, just smile and go on and do what's right for you. If you
want 2 dozen purple monkeys at the service, it's okay, whatever feels
right for you. Good Luck!

Just take things one step at a time and keep thoughts of her close to warm your heart to help you get through the holidays.

Her obituary was wonderful- she really lived a full life, I wish for the sake of those who loved her that it could have been longer. My mom passed away last December, two weeks before Christmas. I miss her very much. It has been a tough year without her and this year's holdidays will be hard too. But I have had wonderful dreams about her and they make my heart a little lighter. May you be blessed with the comfort of family and dear friends who help to ease the ache in the days ahead. Hold tight to the good memories. Love does not die!

The pain will pass with time, and the longing for her will pop up when you least expect it.

It's been almost 10 years since my own mom passed away, and it seems like yesterday - especially over the holidays.

She'll never really leave you - I know mine hasn't. Be sure and pay attention to your dreams, 'cause that's most likely when she'll pay you a visit.

Take care of yourself.

158. There are many stages to the grieving process
I hope when you can you read up on them. When you pass through each stage, you will recognize each one as being normal and part of the process instead of feeling guilty about the feelings you are having. I learned this the hard way so I am encouraging you, when you can, to educate yourself on this subject so your feelings as they change from time to time will not surprise or alarm you.

There's nothing anyone can say that can make you feel better about losing a parent; however, over time it comes into a healthy perspective. You learn to look back and appreciate every single day, every moment you spent with your mom and you begin to calculate everything she left behind for you. In that way, you learn to live with the loss. You don't ever truly get over missing your parents, you just learn to live with it.

Your mom was a lovely person and so I am sure are you. I too will say a prayer for your mom and I will be thinking of you and hoping you get through these difficult days.

I treasure each moment, and in your mom's honor, I'll take mom out for lunch tomorrow, and treat her to a trip to Barnes & Noble, where she can pucrchase whatever books she wants (She's a very dedicated and active Dem).
Saturday with mom. Each day with her is a gift, as I'm sure was the case with you and your mom. Rest in peace dear Rita:grouphug:

Thank you all so much for your kind and caring thoughts. I wish I had the time to respond to all of you, but things are hectic and there are family members I want and need to spend time with. Please forgive me if I couldn't respond to your post, but know that I appreciate all of your good wishes. My mom was one of the great religious lefties. Mom was nearly a Catholic nun before she married dad -- she believed so deeply in the Gospel. I have been encouraged in the past year that religious left is building a stronger presence again.

Thank you all again. Please keep my mom in your thoughts and/or prayers, and continue to defend truth, justice and compassion, as she did throughout her life.

201. Part Dies, Another Part Lives
My condolences to you for your terrible loss. My own Mom died eight and a half years ago, and I still miss her. Sometimes, I get an ethereal feeling of reassurance, of being watched over, but she was still gone from this life. There is no replacing the loss of someone you always knew would be on your side, and care about what you were doing. This is the way this life will go, however, and as so often happens, the people who comfort you today, will be grieving their own loss tomorrow.

At some point later, when I had gotten over my grief and shock somewhat, I began to realize and appreciate how lucky I was to have had her as my wonderful Mom, all the great qualities she had, and how many things I got from her. I came to realize that whenever I went to the effort to express myself well, to feel concern for others, to hate an abuser or a bully, or to read and learn about issues, that I had gotten it from her. Many of your own good traits were once guidance from her, and now they continue in you. She herself is now gone, but so much of what you loved her for is still here, and you are those things yourself. Now, more aware of her great qualities than I ever was when she was alive and it seemed like she would live forever, I can feel close to her a new way--by keeping alive in me those wonderful things I learned from her.

There is no denying the sadness at your loss, but you can always be grateful that you had a wonderful Mom, and can carry with you in mind and heart, a living example of love.
