An Industrial Policy for the Democrats

This should be a BIG part of the Democratic platform in the years to come. The Apollo Alliance's 10 point plan has an estimated cost of 300 billion dollars-with the multiplier on expected benefits in the trillions within several years. Backing this sort of proposal will help give the Dem's a serious, coherent vision on everything from economic policy, to national defense, to the environment. Clearly there are good signs- Emmanuel's little Meet The Press sneak peek at the '06 platform definitely was influenced by the Apollo platform and like minded idea's, but hopefully they will have a substantive, sustained commitment.

1. If you read Paul Krugman that´s exactly what we need.
When our Chinese bankers become our debt collectors we´ll need our old industries to make things to sell and reduce the massive bush debt.

2. Even Friedman
(Tom not Milton) is supportive of this type of plan, its unfortunate that is has took this long for something like this to reach critical mass among the political class, but better late then never...

4. I disagree with #9
Hydrogen is a long long way off. Any money other than basic research would be better spent on existing technology.

5. I don't believe that they want to put
a major focus on Hydrogen, the point is to get the ball rolling on R & D, it will always be a long way off until we start working on it, plus it is a great way to attract international talent in the field of science, which we have recently have had a hard time doing, I suppose the point is just to get ahead of the curve...
