Stanley 'Tookie' Williams' execution is scheduled for Dec. 13, one minute after midnight.

Tookie's conviction was based entirely on circumstantial evidence.

The prosecutor in the case was allowed to dismiss ALL of the black jurors.

Fingerprints found at the scene were not his, bloody footprints found at the scene were not his, etc. There was never a fair trial in this case.

Police files were deliberately left in a paid informant's jail cell to help prepare the informant w/details so that he could testify that Tookie 'confessed' to him.

This prosecutor made numerous racist remarks during the trial.

At the time he started it, the Crips numbered around thirty members, when he was convicted, still less than a thousand.

Tookie's work over the past decade has saved tens of thousands of kids from gang life. He can do far more good living than his death could ever accomplish.

Nobel Laureates, peace & justice activists, the religious community, the anti-death penalty community, community activists, anti-gang activists, celebrities, and everyone else, including & especially our precious children & youths wanting to avoid/leave gang life, support Tookie and urge the governor ro grant him clemency.

Until racism is eliminated from the criminal "justice" system, there can not be a fair trial. If there is even the slightest modicum of doubt as to guilt, executing someone is the equivalent to murder.

There's a reason that states like Illionois have suspended the death sentence entirely.

trial when the defendant is African American, living in Los Angeles and not able to have even ONE of the African Americans on the jury!

The African American community would have been most affected by the horror of the crips and the bloods!

Why the hell couldn't we be on the jury!!!


I have worked closely on some trials and helped to select juries and I know the games that lawyers play to get African Americans off of the jury.

Question to African American: Do you believe that you could be fair in this trial?

Answer from African American (speaking from the heart): That would be hard to do your honor. I have seen what the police have done in our community.

There have been many times when I have seen them treating African American teenagers in a mean way.

Stanley "Tookie" Williams has made a huge impact on thousands of inner city kids living in poverty stricken areas. He's written books on the danger of gang violence and promotes a peaceful, hopeful alternate to drugs and crime.

We are the only industrialized country that still allows the barbaric practice of legalized murder. Tookie Williams will continue to contribute to the younger generation with his writings and messages, execution would be a tragedy. I highly recommend his book, BLUE RAGE, BLACK REDEMPTION.

At his trial, Stan was found guilty by an all-white jury after the prosecutor removed all prospective Black jurors from the jury pool--a practice he was warned against by judges on two prior occasions. In his closing argument, the prosecutor compared Stan to a Bengal tiger in the zoo, and described the Black neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles as his jungle "habitat.

a large part of my work was with children and youth. A lot of these were youngsters deemed "at risk" for getting themselves into serious trouble at home, in school, and/or in the community. And a lot of them were young people who were already in serious trouble, who were likely to be going into a "detention center" or whatever other polite name we want to use instead of "jail."

Now, this isn't the long arm of coincidence, wrenching itself out of socket -- it's the harsh and cold reality of the world that many -- too many! -- kids exist in. These are kids who are going to either be "reached," or they are going to continue lives of crime. Some may simply die along the way, from a DWI accident, an overdose, a fight .... and others simply die on the inside, and become flint hard convicts that sap resources from their families, communities, and society.

There are some that can be reached by calm reason. So you can say, "Look at fucking Tookie, living in a cell." Others are reached by the threat of punishment. So you can say, "Tookie may die soon." But there are others that aren't able to understand what society views as reason .... and who believe that they have nothing to lose, which renders threats ineffective. Sometimes, it takes people who speak a different language to reach them. In the 1970s, in Rahway State Prison, a group of guys started a program that became known as "Scared Straight." There were a couple tv shows, "Scared Straight" and "You Are Your Brother's Keeper," about this. They didn't save everyone. But they did a lot of good for some kids, and some good for a lot of kids. I'm familiar with that program, but that's another story.

Now the man in question is an adult version of a kid who, for a variety of reasons, became an animal. Actually, he was worse than most, because he helped create and develop one of the most violent and criminal of gangs. The potential he had, as a kid, is gone. Nothing will bring that back. But he is working to help save other kids .... many of those kids I spoke of, who don't respond to the usual methods of treatment. Killing him closes the door on more than his sad life.

*California Death Row inmate Stanley "Tookie" Williams will have the whole half hour on "Tavis Smiley" on PBS TONIGHT, Tuesday, November 29. The in-depth half hour interview was videotaped from Tavis' radio studio with Williams via telephone since video cameras were not permitted at San Quentin. Smiley had also visited Williams at the prison last Saturday but their talk was not recorded.

When Tavis asked Williams why he has not apologized to the victims, Williams replied, "Being convicted does not connote guilt. I cannot apologize for crimes that I did not commit. I do have sympathy for victims' families and others who have lost loved ones to senseless violence."

Williams also denied reports that he had refused to participate in debriefings with authorities, stating that these were only mandated for prisoners who are part of active in-prison gangs. "If I were a gang member, I wouldn't be allowed to talk to you on the phone right now. My tail would be in solitary confinement where the majority of those considered to be active gang members are."

Given an open microphone to explain his innocence, Williams stated, "The fact of the matter is there was not a shred of tangible evidence to begin with, no fingerprints, the crime scene boot prints did not match my boots, no eyewitnesses, the shotgun shells that were fired continuously at each crime scene didn't match the shotgun I owned. I mean, all the evidence was predicated on hearsay or circumstantial evidence. That's the key." Williams also recounted a number of irregularities that led to his conviction.
