Letter I sent to CNN for auto-deletion. I have this little fantasy going where someone there actually cares...
In my opinion Kyra Phillips on three occasions displayed a bias in favour of administration policies in her interview with the Secretary of the Army today. After the Secretary described his visit with an Iraqi general she responded 'sounds like lots of good work is happening.' It is inappropriate for her to affirm the already positive characterization the secretary of the army was offering. Secondly she cited a story where she met a Captain on an airplane who had lost his leg in combat. The gist of the story is that despite the loss he still believed in the mission. Although no doubt true, citing it in the context she did once again affirmed the Secretary's positive view of the war. Finally, in closing she said it was an 'honour' to speak to the Secretary. I doubt very much in concluding an interview with the Secretary of Agriculture or Transportation she would do the same. The use of the term 'honour' again emphasized positively the character of the Secretary. These three instances reveal a bias that is, in my view, unprofessional and not journalistic. Given the recent scandals at the New York Times and the Washington Post it surprises me that CNN would not be more careful about being seen to affirm administration policy. Thank you for your time.
