Some See Jesus On Truck Tailgate
At Least 150 People Make Pilgrimage

LAREDO, Texas -- An image on a truck tailgate has sparked a new wave of religious pilgrims in Texas.

Portraits of Jesus Christ and a table full of candles surround what some are calling a miraculous image.

Believers say the face of Jesus is visible in the dirt on the tailgate.

Since word of the vision got out, at least 150 people have made a pilgrimage to visit the truck.

Some light candles, some take video or pictures and some just pray.

The truck's owner, Julio Radillo, said he isn't going to drive this truck for a while. And when he does, he'll remove the tailgate as a memento.

Radillo said he thinks the image of Christ appeared as reminder to people to strengthen their faith.

Oh jeez, this is really over the top. Jesus aint't coming back as a dirt
smudge on a tailgate, even if it is in Texas.

What's the average IQ level down there?

I still remember a while back in some city there was the thought of the image of Mary on a wall and people wrote things and left flowers and candles and one guy wrote something not nice to the people and HE got arrested. Go figure.

77. Yep. I'm an illustrator by trade, and I think he simply wiped away
some of the dirt to create the image, or indeed used a stencil. It definitely doesn't look as if it got there in a natural fashion. Too much of a crisp graphic style.

also, it looks like there was some sort of decal on the panel that got torn off (you can see part of it where "jesus'" neck is). i think he had some sort of picture there, took it off & the dust accumulating on the remaining glue made the "jesus" pic.

and for the rest of you, hands off the folks of laredo. yes, people are pretty religious here, but they are good people. not everyone buys this "jesus in a tortilla" stuff & i haven't seen anything on the local news or the local rag about this. no one is talking about it either.

Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 12:55 AM by RGBolen

Dallas county is not that red, or at least wasn't that red on one night in November of '04.

2004 General Election Results - Dallas County

Bush/Cheney 346,246 50.34%
Kerry/Edwards 336,641 48.95%

The Blue in the middle is Travis county, the blue toward the west is Laredo, the blue to the far west is El Paso.

This proves...what, exactly? What does Jesus want us to do?

Yes, Mr. Radillo, that did something to my faith, but 'strengthen' isn't the word for it.

Sometimes I get these calls on my Blackberry -- from a woman who calls herself "Mitzie". She tells me that her husband Joe and her sons Joshie and Jimmie are looking out for me, and just trust her and Joshie and her "Big Daddie in the Sky" and we will get through this Bushie "End of Days."

She also told that her "Big Daddie In The Sky" is no fan of Bushie's - but her son Joshie says to give him time.

She also tells me that Bushie likes the fruit of the vine, the strong product of the grain of the field, and the essence of the cocoa bean.

What does Jesus have against churches? Why do they always happen on the sides of bank buildings or in grilled cheese sandwiches or on pickup trucks? Did someone not get the moving notice or what?

Does this happen in other cultures and religions?

76. Original Decal that used to be there (mystery solved)
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 01:33 AM by Godhumor
Anyway, it is clear that that this is an actual image. My suspicion was that this particular image was a decal and the glue stuck around after it was removed. Viola, dirt sticks. It took me all of 30 seconds to find this (searching "Christ Decal" on images.google.com):

Now to email the news station about doing some basic research.

78. Well, there you have it
a decal used as a stencil-no surprise there. I wonder what the perpetrator was hoping to get out of his rather unsophisticated ruse?

He could have AT LEAST designed his OWN stencil!

Are there portraits i haven't heard about? Couldn't that be anybody's face? I mean we aren't really sure what Jesus looked like. Are we?

98. An appeal!!!
There is no sense in ridiculing Christians. Granted, alot of what "we" do is deserving of ridicule but if we are gonna take back our country then we are going to need Christian votes as well. It could be argued that the Christian vote is the lynchpin, a bloc coopted by the GOP by preying on fear and stupidity.. Lets all hang together or hang seperately.
