he's learned how to proclaim christianity.
he's learned how to exploit faith.
he's learned how to dupe some christians by appealing to their understanding of jesus's teachings.

but i see no evidence that shrub himself knows or understands or practices anything like what jesus himself urged.

i think by far most of the christians who support shrub take at face value his claim, and the spin of others, that shrub is a good christian.

i think further that they look to the president as a moral leader, and aren't overly concerned with policy. they want the president to be an upright role model for their children, to tell their kids to stay away from drugs, to not have sex outside of wedlock, and to lead a good, healthy, proper life.

if clinton advanced the exact same agenda as shrub, they wouldn't support it because they didn't see him as a moral person.

8. Bush-supporting Christians are a different breed.

One way to distinguish them from "real" Christians is that they are obsessed with the Ten Commandments (i.e. Old Testament wrath-of-God stuff) but never mention posting the Sermon On the Mount (Christ's actual words) anywhere. Even a quick reading of the latter passage in the Bible reveals the yawning gap between Jesus's words and right-wing political policies. Like, you know, "blessed are the poor" - I guess that's why we are cutting their programs.
