Hey, Rush! I checked your website, and I don't see a single mention
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 12:58 PM by ComerPerro
of you "matching every donation". You lying, war-profiteering asshole.

Let me fill you guys in:

Rush Limbaugh started a program, where his listeners could "donate" a subscription of the Limbaugh Letter to a soldier overseas. He spreads this idea in the name of "supporting the troops".

Apparently, during his show today someone called him on his profiteering scheme. So Rush got very offended, stated that this wasn't just motivated by profit, and then very loudly proclaimed that he would "match every donation" and that this was "not a profit operation or moneymaking scheme", but rather a legitimate way to support the troops. He added that his measures to ensure that its not just a way to make himself richer are up on his website anywhere.

Well, I don't see them. All I see is that if I give Rush 45 bucks he will sign a soldier up to receive his newsletter.

Furthermore, when he says he will "match every donation", what exactly does that mean? He will pay the donor back? He will donate the same amount to relief efforts or to a cause that gives our troops things they might actually need? Or is it just a lie he came up with to make any of his listeners who might start to question his motives feel assured that his intentions are "noble".

It got better, though.

Limbaugh went on to attack those who questioned his scam, even other known conservatives. "They say things like, He doesn't even need the money. Well, who are they to say how much money anyone needs?"
That, I gotta say, is an interesting way to justify exploitation and greed. Very unique.

The thing that really astounds me is the absolute gall and audacity it takes to promote one of your own products by encouraging people to buy it "for the troops".

If he was really interested in helping people, why wouldn't he encourage his listeners to take that $45 and use it to either give money to groups that send necessities to the troops, or to even get a soldier's name and send him a care package. Toothbrush, deodorant, soap, shampoo, a comb, etc... Matches, playing cards, hell, even cigarettes would do a soldier more good than the freaking Limbaugh newsletter.

They are listing the email address of each donor so the soldier who receives the package can thank them. I hope at least one of these is given to a liberal over there, and I hope that soldier sends the donor an email that just outright blasts them.

One thing that interests me, however, is this whole mentality. These people actually think that they are doing good. They believe that by sending copies of the Limbaugh Newsletter, they are supporting the troops. That's how Rush framed it, and justified the charges.

"People say, why not just send a copy to all the troops? Well, I tell ya, we've gotten a flood of calls and everyone wants to donate, so the soldier will know who sent it to them and so that the donor can know they are supporting our troops."

Sorry, that's not support. Its condescending and insulting. They are in Iraq putting their asses on the line and they are thanked and "supported" by getting a partisan rag from some right wing, government hating dittohead who probably never had the nerve to actually go and enlist.

Besides, if Rush just had to do the sales as a means of "tracking", why not just charge people $5-10 bucks per package (to cover costs for shipping). Or, better yet, since his hate-radio show and lies have made him a multi-millionaire, why not just do it for free and send them himself, out of his pocket?

Finally, I just have to know: since when is it ok to flood our soldiers in combat with partisan rhetoric during wartime?

Imagine, if you will, that MoveOn.org started sending newsletters to the troops in Iraq, filled with left-wing propaganda and rhetoric, all free of charge.

Imagine the backlash.

2. This lying prick is gouging his own listeners. What a scumbag.
I hope this scam he is pulling backfires on him. He is already upset because his listeners have called his bluff.

He was selling his stupid Club Gitmo T shirts and charging $9 shipping. $9 For a freaking T shirt??????????

He is nothing but a money whore.

4. $9 for shipping, for a T Shirt?
It better arrive tomorrow morning.

Damn.

And, as for him scamming his own listeners, I really could care less how much money he extorts from them. They deserve what they get.

But that fact that he is doing so in the name of "supporting the troops" is just disgusting.

As I mentioned, the mere fact that his listeners think that such a thing proves that they "support the troops" shows just how far gone they really are.

6. One thing about it...
Don't the soldier's have to sign up to get this shit? It's not like he's just going to drop a leaflet bomb in the middle of a US military installation full of his propaganda. Those who don't want it, won't get it.

14. So what does he do with the excess donations
when he gets more donors than their are soldiers who signed up?

I imagine he will just start picking soldiers off of various other aid request lists.

16. I'm not saying he's not ripping people off...
But frankly, he's ripping off his own asshat listeners, and it's there own damn fault. My only issue would be if he was dumping his propaganda (sending unsolicited mail) to the soldiers, which doesn't seem to be the case.

19. The military was doing that for him
broadcasting his show over their airwaves...

I honestly don't care if he swindles his own listeners.

But it disgusts me to no end that he does so in the name of the troops.

10. i'm sure they all have a lot of time to sit around and read that
crap:sarcasm:more likely it will be used as TP instead. a fitting use i'd say.

too bad he couldn't use the $45 to buy the troops some well-needed supplies instead of spreading his own tripe BS.

15. Exactly. Most people say support the troops by sending
items that would actually be useful.

The idea of him claiming to support the troops with this exploitation is just infuriating.

If he was really interested in helping them, he would spare them the partisan rhetoric and instead would ask listeners to donate items like razors and toothpaste.
