Special prosecutor for Diebold
It's long overdue, given that the betrayal of democracy is kind of important to true patriots. There is enough in the files of Greg Palast alone to get at Choicepoint/DBT. Now Diebold needs to be investigated by a special prosecutor. If not now, then we should make it a prime issue after the 2006 elections.

1. It'll never happen whilst Alberto "Torture is quaint" Gonzalez is over at
The Justice Department. DIEBOLD steals elections for the Repukes...so why would the Repukes want to investigate DIEBOLD?

2. What about a runaway federal grand jury?
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 07:59 PM by stillcool47
i watched an old movie on TCM where the town was corrupt and the jury on behest of the newspaper issued indictments....never had a trial because the bad guys left town. Anyhow i googled it and low and behold i found this;

ttp://www.udayton.edu/~grandjur/faq/faq8.htm
What is a "runaway" grand jury?
A runaway grand jury is one in which the grand jurors have taken control of an investigation and are ignoring a prosecutor's efforts to rein them in. In the nineteenth century, many American grand juries were crotchety and independent and did what they wanted; by the twentieth century, grand juries had pretty much come under the control of prosecutors.
A runaway grand jury is an exception to this rule--the grand jurors ignore the prosecutor(s) and start making their own decisions. Runaway grand juries were not uncommon in the early twentieth century. The best known of these runaway grand juries is probably the New York grand jury in the 1930's that barred prosecutors from coming into the grand jury room and took off on its own investigation of corruption in New York city government. This grand jury eventually cooperated with Thomas E. Dewey, whom the jurors apparently decided they could trust, and returned many indictments against a variety of defendants, including some well known members of the New York Mafia. Since modern grand jurors tend to be ignorant of their ability to act independently of a prosecutor's wishes, runaway grand juries have pretty much become a thing of the past. There have, however, been a few exceptions: Recently, for example, a California state grand jury indicted all the top county officials, and nearly closed down county government. And a Texas state grand jury began investigating a mayoral candidate and seems to have ruined his reputation sufficiently to cause him to lose the election, even though he was never charged with any crimes.

3. They all do. ES&S moreso than Diebold - it is owned by brother of Diebold
Mr. Urovich, and the company tallies I believe approximately 60% of all electronically tabulated votes.

I believe the Urovich brothers and others are trying to keep the focus on Diebold while we miss the overall problem. That its not just Diebold. To focus on one company is not only wasting precious time, but it is not addressing the issue of WHO and WHAT is COUNTING our votes.

We need to ban all electronic voting and do not pass go, and do not collect until we do so.

Bread crumbs and third place banners dont count for wins in this pageant. We have to stop the bleeding and it wont stop with a bandage that simply targets Diebold. Electronic tabulation and the privatization of ALL votes must be stopped and confronted as a privatization issue and a tabulation issue.

Let's think big folks. Its not just a company we are concerned about.

5. I'd go for that every time. popular support may garner TV news
...reports and then political pressure.

Neocons hate being found out. I just figure they hate the light of day, like vampires.

Do you think a homerun, or bust - is the only thing? I really am asking because I don't know. It seems like populist discoveries have usually brought change. Investigators are the teeth for that beast.

6. I think we need to start asking for what we deserve and not

to continue to rather sheepishly ask for bread crumbs.

I know that is not fully what we are doing. However we are grossly compartmentalizing issues that need a broader confrontation and addressing.

Case in point, the focus on Diebold is a smokescreen when the entire electronic voting machine tabulation and privatization (and tabulation) of our votes is the issue.

We need to learn from the entitled infants to take ownership of what is ours and stop taking dictates from infantile Napoleons. They are most assuredly not entitled to be running the country into the ground, but for whatever reason we have continued to not demand what is ours.

We as Americans truly are entitled, certainly to fair elections, and the extremist white male privileged caste should in no way be tolerated to cheat as they have in at least the past three election cycles.

Why we are allowing them to destroy the environment and the world. Im not exactly sure why however. There's no where else to go so we need to stop this overly active testosterone from dismantling every area of our lives.

7. I'm persuaded, Thanks! A prosecutor for the whole enchilada then.
I'm in. And wondering if 2006 will be too late. Citizens involved in this need to go before a judge and jury.
