McCarthy was RIGHT
That is what I read on Yahoo in a few reviews. How on earth could even Freepers believe that? What fact have they grasped on to to believe it? I am baffled...

Here is one such review:

1. Why can't freepers at least spell their crap correctly?
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 12:09 AM by ocelot
"This film is a revisonist (sic) piece of left wing propagand (sic) that does nothing to convey the sense of immeninet (sic) communist invasion that the country felt at the time. It harps on the alleged excesses of Senator Mcarthy's (sic) crusade to root out communist infiltrators and does not acknowledge that the amount of communist sypathizers (sic) that actually were fereted (sic) out. Not only this, it does not show the chilling effect this campaign had on those that considered joining the reds. In a any fim that purports to be a relatively historical piece it is there (sic) duty to be fair nad (sic) balanced with the truth. This film is nothing more than a propaganda piece that trys (sic) to villfy (sic) the memory of a (sic) American patriot."

Of course, even if they could spell they'd still be demonstrably stupid, but for people who think America is the center of the universe, you'd think they'd at least try to spell Jesus' native language correctly.

2. Children believe in all manner of things
These adults have the psychology of children - magical thinking is rampant in them.

6. cartoon characters dancing in their heads
i imagine the 'liberal' is a snidely whiplash type twirling his mustache and laffing in glee while the doomed blonde damsel struggles helplessly tied to the train tracks, and a train coming around the bend! the hero is wearing a white hat and riding a trusty stallion and he races up to snidely, who he soundly trounces with some well trained punches and blows, freeing the swooning girl just as the train thunders by
(even their fantasys are probably stolen from sat morning kid programming)

3. He is one of their heroes
Makes no sense to me but they have been singing his praises on blog sites for a couple years now.

4. Saw "Good Night and Good Luck" today
My only criticism of this film is that it didn't emphasize the extent of the damage done to many, many U.S. citizens as a result of the McCarthy hearings. It missed an opportunity to educate those who didn't live through this terrible time, and instead took a more narrow focus of preaching to the converted.

But, still, what guts and glory!

5. Good Night and Good Luck
I thought it was a beautifully made movie, with a very good point about the state of todays mainstream media. It is the job of the msm to function as an effective 4th branch of govt., not simply to relay spoon fed govt propaganda to the masses.

To revise history, as that reviewer is doing, and say McCarthey had it right, is to open the door to aspiring demagogues (Bill O'Reilly?) and once again threaten the essence of our country.

7. To say McCarthy was "right" is saying that the US military were commies
Hmmm...don't let facts get in the way, Freepers.

10. isn't it interesting how we bought into the fear of Communism?
After the freedom of information act, we find that some of those so-called communist organizations were actually created by the CIA. I remember in fourth grade, our teacher told us that we were lucky to live in the US because those poor children in communist countries were brainwashed. They were told what to believe in and that we had the freedom to believe what we want. Then there was the civil defense drills in case of nuclear attacks. You know, hide under your desk and kiss your ass good-bye. fear, fear, fear!!!

11. Not surprising, but very depressing.
We should have learned our lesson about 1.) giving the government too much power in a knee jerk reaction and 2.) the truth about witchhunts.

12. One thing I noticed about most of the negative reviews...
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 02:48 PM by Shadowen
They never attack the pacing, editing, acting, etc. (Though naturally they give them low scores.) They just say, "Liberal bullshit! McCarthy was right! I want to suck Bush's cock but that would make me a faggot!" One likens him to Michael Moore.

Jeebus A Crikey on a stick. If they're going to be critical, they should move beyond the ad hominem. Of course, their heroes haven't...
