They haven't voted on anything yet except whether or not to have the vote on the resolution.

Now calm down and state what you're so fired up about.

4. Is she ordering Democrats to vote yes or no?
Why doesn't she just order them to vote present?

SFGate

(11-18) 15:04 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

House Republicans maneuvered for swift rejection Friday of any notion of immediately pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq, sparking a nasty, sometimes personal debate over the war and a Democratic lawmaker's own call for withdrawal.

Furious Democrats accused the GOP of orchestrating a political stunt, leaving little time for debate and changing the meaning of a withdrawal resolution offered by Democratic Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania.

For those reasons, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent word to the rank-and-file to vote — with the Republicans — against immediate withdrawal of American troops.

and it's a total joke.

22. Read the article again. She's advocating Dem counter to the Hunter "Sense
of the House" BS. Hunter's move is basically a trap to have a nonbinding vote, counted and attributed, to be played out in '06 campaign ads - Democrats vote for "cut and run"...I do disagree with my Rep. Pelosi, though. I think the Dem's ought to vote present and leave the nays to the Repub's on their own motion. That may be more telling, and politically effective on this one. This is not about troop withdrawal or anywhere near a discussion about an exit plan - it's Repub grandstanding and an attempt to hijack a headline.

11. She did that because it was a CRAP VOTE pushed by Repugs to hurt Dems
and that's why they voted it down! Get a grip...there's stuff behind the scenes here going on.

No Way Most Dems would vote to "Pull Out Now" without a plan. Murtha wasn't proposting that and Kerry wasn't either...nor Hillary or the rest!

That vote was a procedural vote relating to the upcoming vote.

17. See, this is the problem ...
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 06:52 PM by RoyGBiv
We're quick to go off half-cocked, yelling and screaming about our spineless Dem leaders without bothering to take a look at what is really happening. I mean for privy's sake it seems like a lot of people think the vote already took place when in fact all that has taken place is a vote on a rule to end debate and put the resolution up for a vote.

As others have noted, the resolution being offered today is a deliberately poorly worded *Republican* stunt with no teeth, a vote on the "sense" of the House about an immediate exit from Iraq, that *replaces* the actual plan offered by Rep. Murtha. In other words, it is intended to bury that plan and more importantly stifle debate on any plan at all.

There's a heaping pile of parliamentary maneuvering going on here. We'd do well to pay attention to it before freaking out.
