Cheney heckled by anti-war protesters in Knoxville TN
Cheney heckled by anti-war protesters
By DUNCAN MANSFIELD
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Vice President Dick Cheney was heckled by protesters Tuesday as he spoke at the groundbreaking for a public policy center honoring former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker.

During Cheney's brief remarks, about a half-dozen people protesting the war in Iraq yelled, "War, what is it good for?" and held up a large banner saying, "Peace Now."

Cheney continued speaking and didn't acknowledge the protesters, who were escorted from the ceremony inside the University of Tennessee's basketball arena.

About 50 protesters, most of them appearing to be college age, demonstrated outside the arena. Several carried signs, including one that read "Honor Baker, Impeach Cheney."

8. some Tennessee blog comments on Cheney visit
When I think of Cheney with a shovel, I think work-release.

Oh how I love a good protest.

"The Devil went down to Knoxville, He was looking for a soul to steal..."

I hope someone has the nuts to scream out "Go f@#$ yourself Mr. Cheney!" Like that guy in N.O.

I've been dreaming of picket signs...

"Dick is a dick" "Treasonous Dick" "Support Dick Torture" "Bin Laden's Bitch" "Saudi Spy" "War Profiteer" "Remember Nuremburg" "Dysfunctional Dick" "I'm with Stupid"...ah, so many possibilities.

Where's the party tomorrow?

hell yeah we protested! it was terrific, and there was great media coverage. some of us protested from within the boling arena itself, saying (war, what is it good for? dick!) and some of us did a rally and march outside. don't listen to any report telling you cheney was not unnerved by the protesters who interrupted his speech... he was... he stopped speaking initially and seemed flustered as he went back to his speech.
