Why does the news always presume to tell me what to think?
That may be a stupid question, but it just struck me. Promo for local news coming up at 5: " ..a triad mother of a slain soldier reflects on what this day should mean to all Americans."
Ok, well, it does mean alot to me, but that is SUCH a PREACHY tone. Don't TELL ME WHAT TO FEEL! Don't TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!
Sorry, it just GETS under my SKIN!!!!

2. The next question would be
why do you listen to it?

Turn it off. Listen to some music, read the news on the internet. It's wonderful!

:hi:

The news on TV is ASININE.

9. Actually
SO was waching something on that channel before he left for work and left it on in the other room--so I just heard it out of the corner of my ear. Went and changed it to one of the jazz channels my cable provides---great minds and all that!

6. Because it isn't news, it's propaganda.
News seeks to inform, propaganda to persuade or influence.

8. Well when the news was the news they did not try to tell you what to think
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 05:06 PM by Vincardog
they just presented the facts and let you decide. Now that he news has become another profit center for the corporate controlled media the NEWZ is just propaganda. That is what propaganda does it tells you what to think. More than that it tells you what is permissible to think. for example you are not permitted to think that the evil cabal in DC MIHOP, even though you know they wanted it to happen.

It is not even permissible to ask how come everywhere the Republican companies own the vote counting machines the Radical Right Wing candidate wins?

10. Target Market
I get the impression that the target audience of local newz are emotionally retarded, senior citizen, shut-ins with chronic amnesia from severe head trauma. This can only explain their need to explain everything...every year like: "you should drive more carefully when it snows", or "rain is wet, and it builds up and fills the streets with water" ...ad nauseum.
