Shocking News from the Supreme Court: Thomas Speaks!
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 02:31 AM by northzax
from Slate...

Then a cloud opens up. From behind a burning bush, Clarence Thomas' voice booms: "Would this case be any different if the wife ran upstairs, grabbed the straw (with the coke in it) and gave it to the police?"

No, says Dreeben, who looks as surprised as the rest of us that Thomas has a voice.

it's a really interesting case. either way. you should read it.

2. What was most surprising about it was...
Thomas was airing an opinion that was the opposite of what scalia was saying.

10. "Is that a pubic hair on your coke can?" - "Honorable" C. Thomas
Coke cans bring out the investigator in him. Or is is pubic hairs?

12. Extra credit question: what part of the body involved another Thomas
quoted, also including a straw?

Hint: it might become one of your favorite "political" quotes.

better than any bushism I can think of

7. I agree
A hard case might involve two roommates, who have no personal legal connection. But in this case we are talking about a husband and wife, who by their state-sanctioned civil union have a certain commonality of property (I'm not a marriage law expert so I don't the nature and extent of all the laws).

Of course, this above explanation doesn't help for the Matlock case, where the culprit was the boyfriend.

By the way, I don't know of Thomas's speaking habits...he really speaks very rarely?

11. Thomas is known for not speaking in court
someone said, jokingly (i think) that they had heard fewer than 100 words from him in a decade and a half on the court.

9. I agree with author anyways.
The state should have halted the search and gotten a warrant.
