Possibly naive, but honest, question about Mann Coulter
I was just reading this thread

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5317356

here on DU. The article in question quotes one individual who speculates that some of the crazy shit she says is meant to be satirical.

That does make me wonder. I don't think I've ever heard her say a thing that has any logic or lack of complete evil hatred. I don't use the word "hate" for many, but she's one of them I reserve it for, because she is so over- the- top evil and completely insane.

However, is it even POSSIBLE that she's not really serious about a bunch of this shit? That she's either saying crazy crap just to get attention or that she is actually attempting comedy?

I guess I'm asking mainly because I'd like to HOPE that no one is really as hateful and stupid as Coulter, though I suspect that Coulter- as- (bad) comedian is really too much to hope for.

Just wondering out loud for the most part.

1. She's saying it to get attention. She's mentally unstable
if she actually believes that crap.

But she stirs up the mouth-breathers and they believe every word of it.

She needs medication, imho.

2. Someone once tried to convince me that Rush Limbaugh
was just an entertainer so don't sweat what he says. It's all for show. BS I say. They give political opinions in a mass medium to brazilians of people who want to know what to think.

3. she believes what she says... and many others do as well...
She pushes the right-wing way of thinking to its extreme, shedding all the qualifying phrases and mitigating examples. The result is a hard and ugly version of right-wing views -- views which many others hold but are afraid to state in public. Her writing reminds me of the old Vietnam era phrase: "Kill 'em all and let God sort them out."

4. I actually thought that about Michael Savage for a while
That guy is so loony and over the top that I just couldn't believe he really meant the crap he spewed. He had to be some kind of comedian, I thought. No one's that crazy, right?

I haven't had the displeasure of listening to him in about a year (thank you, satellite radio!), so I don't know what's going on with him lately, thank God.

Coulter, however, I'm convinced, means what she says. She's flat-out insane. I also think she was Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS, in a previous life.

13. Michael Savage is the same if not worse than he was since the
last time you listened to him. He is really over the top.

5. From the first time I read something she wrote I thought it HAD to be
a joke. Nobody could possibly buy that kind of crap. She couldn't possibly be real. I was wrong, I guess, or a hell of a lot of morans have been fooled by her. :scared:

6. you also have to realize she is a victim of her own persona now...
she can't stop being the Wicked Witch because that's her market niche. Once she softens, even a little, another mad dog will take that niche and she is out of an income. Her rabidity is marketable -- but only so long as it is rabidity.

7. man, you got it.:
"However, is it even POSSIBLE that she's not really serious about a bunch of this shit? That she's either saying crazy crap just to get attention or that she is actually attempting comedy?"

What sold books, 1997-2003?

interestingly enough, and coinciding with public opinion, she hasn't been supportive of the Silver-spoon pResident lately, or his minions.

Coulter has been riding the woolly mammoth of the right for long enough, climate is changing, woolly mammoth may die out....look for the coulter cocoon to open just in time for 2007.....and sell some more friggin books.

8. I do recall an instance....
...where someone on a show accused her of being a phony, and only saying what she says as a gimmick to get an audience. She got VERY strangely quiet and blinked about four times in a half second.

He use to work with her. I'm trying to recall what he said about her in "Blinded By The Right". Anyone have that book handy?

10. Randi Rhodes once said that people who know her
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 12:30 AM by Cleita
say she really doesn't care whose in power. She says and writes all the crap she does for the money and nothing else. It doesn't make her all right with me. As a matter-of-fact it makes me think of her as an evil whore. At least once could have a tiny bit of respect her for being a true believer, but doing it for money without a care over what misery she is creating for others really makes her a cheap, empty person.

11. Interesting
Maybe she just has multiple personality disorder.

Whatever- I still hate her.

And even if she doesn't believe her own spew and does it just for profit, she's just as bad because she's inciting sheeple to develop the same nutty extremist views that she's portraying, all in the name of cash.

So we have:

Sincerely hateful,
Insane, or
Greedy.

Yeah, I still hate her.

16. Coulter
is so over-the-top she's become a parody of herself!

I think whether or not she's serious is a moot point, but as long as she is as unpleasant as she is, it's irrelevant.

17. Good point!
Now, the next thing I'm wondering is when is she going to fade into obscurity? She's become SUCH a parody of herself that there's not really much further she can go. The persona MUST have a shelf- life.

19. Often you find the values the GOP is really trying to teach is tribalism
& hate. How else can they rule the world and bully one nation after another if Americans have hearts and think like adults. How else can they get people to follow without thinking - using baser instincts. Coulter teaches that adolescent humor that even most adolescents don't go for. Where you make fun of an "other".

That is her job. To teach the humor of adolescents. The humor of adults is about punching through to truths and laughing at ourselves. The GOP doesn't want any "self-actualization" going on. They want adults voting for tax cuts so they can buy more toys. It all helps the GOP movement in the end.
