Election Results Show Republicans Paying Price for Bush's Move to the Left

MANASSAS, Va., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday's election results from New Jersey, Virginia, Texas and California served to underscore a recent poll by Richard Viguerie's ConservativeHQ.com that President Bush's move to the left has hurt Republican electoral chances.

"Republican candidates yesterday paid the price for President Bush's move to the left exhibited by his expansion of government programs, power and spending at the expense of personal, religious and economic freedom. He has not been in sync with conservatives, who are the mainstream of American voters, on immigration and too many other policies," said Richard Viguerie, whose ConservativeHQ.com recently surveyed 5,305 conservative activists and donors.

"Voters rejected the politics of compromise by President Bush and the Republican leadership, and want a more principled, populist direction within the GOP," Viguerie continued.

Sixty-nine percent polled said that President Bush is not governing as a conservative, and gave him a grade of D for "controlling government spending." Eighty percent said they were either "disappointed or angry" with the GOP- controlled Congress, giving them a grade of D+.

A whopping 70 percent said they would support "a principled conservative candidate running against an establishment Republican incumbent," while 25 percent said they would reduce their financial support in 2006, and 27 percent said they would end it completely.

7. Survey group: 5,305 conservative activists and donors.
Results: No surprise. It must be getting kind of warm in that bubble.

8. PR Newswire suggests this is, well, PR
and the Manassas dateline reinforces that speculation. This comes from a winger "think" tank, I bet.

10. I would give anything to see how
scientific that sample of conservatives was. I would also like to see the questions. That's the only point of interest in the article. That and the fact that it is obvious that it is a piece of spin, unveiled only in case of certain results. What would Viguerie and his winged monkeys have released if the GOP candidates had won?

11. move to the left? WTF? I mean what is this S**T?
Unless "left" is defined as giving huge amounts of money to cronies, pouring blood and treasure down a rat hole overseas, and then keeping tax cuts that benefit only people who already have a lot of money, while trying to gut what's left of the new deal - * hasn't moved to the left. * has moved into cloud coo-coo land.

Who do we have to slap upside the head at Yahoo about this gibberish.

12. Hey conservatives! Throw the bums out!
Vote against every Republican incumbent. Run primary challenges in every district. If you lose, stay home in the general election!

You are being used by BushCo!

Rise up and destroy the liberal Republican machine!

13. This is it
The beginning of the long awaited rift between the bidness oriented repubs, which is what * really is, and the relgio-social wackos, which is what he pretends to be in order to get their votes. It's a sign of how stupid the wacko fringe is that its taken them this long to catch on to it, but they may have figured out that * doesn't really give a shit if women have abortions or gays marry. He just wants to make sure that his rich buddies make more money.

17. jesus....it's richard fffing viguerie.....doncha know anything about him?
king of direct mail marketing, one of the brains behind the CNP, which is probably the most influential behind the scenes group of rich and powerful maniacs extant today

forget Bildeberger, Trilateral, and all that garbage

check out CNP

and on a personal note, one of my roommates GFs worked for him back in the late 70s, when he was just starting to become rich and powerful, and would come home with tales about what a dishonest, weaselly prick the guy was: worst person she'd EVER met, with nobody even in the same area code as a comparison

I had no idea about his politics at that point; only what a slimy, crooked bugflusher he was.

and conservative as often as possible when talking about Bush's failed policies.

I think we should drop the neo-con label altogether. That just lets the Republicans off the hook.

It's the REPUBLICANS' Iraq quagmire. Bush's CONSERVATIVE economic policies are failing. It's the REPUBLICAN leak scandal. CONSERVATIVES are involved in unethical dealings with DeLay and Abramoff. Christian CONSERVATIVES are trying to take away our freedoms, etc.

19. Those 69% are absolutely correct
Bush is NOT conservative, a point I try to make here without success. He is a radical Right Wing Republican.

Conservatives do NOT;

1. Engage in nation building and entangle themselves needlessly in other country's foreign affairs.

2. Conservatives want LESS government intervention in private lives not more, as in trying to outlaw abortion and the Shiavo disaster.

3. Conservatives want to balance the budget, NOT cut taxes and INCREASE government spending.

4. Conservatives are against enlarging government programs. Bush has grown the federal bureaucracy enormously in the past five years.

There are numerous other examples of how Bush is not a conservative but a radical Right Wing Republican, which is more akin to fascism than conservatives who consider themselves republicans.

I know this will gain no traction here. Rush has convinced everyone, including most here that Bush is a 'conservative' and that conservatives are good and liberals are bad.

Oh well

20. Bush is certainly not a traditional conservative!
He spends money like crazy, believes in government interfering with peoples private lives, he pushes for radical changes in taxes, SS and military. He is certainly not a conservative but a radical in the worst sense of the word.
