Dear friends.
It is with a very heavy heart that I pass along this link.
On the anniversary of the massacre at Fallujah, a documentary has emerged revealing the scope of the tragedy. It reveals that the US employed chemical weapons to decimate the people of Fallujah... armed and civilian alike... adults, children, men and women. White Phosphorus (banned by the geneva conventions that forbid the use of weapons that burn by chemical reaction) was employed NOT to illuminate strategic targets, but rather to indiscriminately and literally melt the flesh of its victims.
This is a war crime, and a crime against humanity perpetrated, hypocritically and ironically, in an exercise that was undertaken in the name of deposing a dictator who was so "evil" he posed a threat to deploy chemical weapons.
To my dismay, there is nothing about this story - even the mention of the documentary, which on its face should be newsworthy - on the CBC website today. I can only hope that the CBC eventually treats this story with the seriousness and the urgency it deserves.
I am passing this along to raise awareness of the strategies that the US government (the same administration that is fighting with its own Senate to claim the right to torture prisoners in places like Guantanamo Bay - where only 9 of 500 + detainees have ever even been charged with any crime) continues to employ in its quest for dominance in the Middle East.
This is not the world we want. Canadians: I implore you to get this message out there so that we can continue to define our role in the world as it becomes clear that we can no longer stand side by side with our largest trading partner... that we must choose our alliances and our priorities according to the kind of world we want to create/ participate in as Canadians.
To my American friends... I needn't tell you why I am sending this. YOu are already some of the most informed and active people I know. Perhaps this is just an easy piece of email to forward to people you know who might be surprised to learn of these terrible truths.
WARNING: the documentary shows some horrific pictures. I encourage you to look at them though. We are sheltered here in North America... and perhaps he should at least catch a glimpse of the world we are inflicting on others.
With love, sadness, and vigilance, kevin
