1. By his logic, I would think mercenaries are not covered.
Tough luck, Blackwater.

2. Hunter Thompson on Meese
A:
I believe that Ed Meese -- being a person without any honor, a fat bastard, really a congenital cheap pig in the style of and on the level of Richard Nixon -- should be locked in a large concrete basement with an elk. And the elk should be ram-fed full of acid before he's put in there.
Q:
An angry, horny acid-crazed elk.
A:
Meese is naked, and the elk is huge, maybe 800 plus.
Q:
Elk can be ugly customers.
A:
And once they're full of acid, and they're really horny -- oh yeah, all night long!

5. Though Meese is now irrelevant and Thompson's now dead,
it's still not too late to lock Meese in a basement with a horny elk on acid. I think it's an idea whose time has come. Can we throw Rove in there with him?

10. Some would call the US troops
something other than US troops, given the lies that put them there and the illegal reasons. What is stopping someone from torturing any of our people? Not a damn thing! The Geneva Convention does not apply to them either if you want to look at it that way.

13. He's wrong, I would have to read it again
but as far as I know, all human beings in a war zone are covered by the Geneva Conventions. I think I read that under the 4th Conventions, people who are fighting are covered, even if not in uniform. One thing I do remember is that all people who are taken into custody on a battlefield have a right to a hearing to determine their status. Iow, Bush and his cohorts cannot simply determine that on their own, despite their unconstitutional Patriot Act. The Geneva Conventions apply here.

And one more thing, torture is not allowed under the Geneva Conventions either.

They are trying to fall back on their old 'this situation is different than any other because 3000 (they keep using that number I noticed, even though it is incorrect) Americans were killed by a few terrorists' argument.

It simply doesn't apply. Either we are a civilized society or we're not. And it is only when we are tested, as in 9/11, that we can determine that.

By Republican standards, we are not civilized. We panic and act like scared children after one attack. Well, we don't, most of us anyway, and they need to stop underestimating the intelligence of the American people. I am so sick of their lies. As is everyone I know now, except for one, totally indoctrinated Freeper friend. All her previous Bush supporting friends, now disagree with her. We're hoping to get her de-programmed after this national nightmare is over.

"The Bill of Rights is Marxist propaganda."

We're going to listen to anything he says about anything?

16. That's been talking point for some time.
I've seen it in letters to the editor. That people who are not in uniform are not covered by the GC.

So I guess it's OK to torture them, huh?

Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 06:29 PM by malaise
men, women, boys and girls out of uniform aren't covered. All those murdered doctors aren't covered. Do these raving lunatics realize that they're also exposing innocent Americans everywhere. Fuck them.

Edit - add.

19. Nor do they seem to comprehend the purpose of the G.C.
Do they really want our soldiers to be tortured? I mean, uniform or no, once torture is seen as acceptable, no uniform is going to prevent it. Have they even thought this out at ALL?
