Anderson Cooper definitely taking over Aaron Brown's 10pm slot at CNN.
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 03:40 PM by Lex

Anderson Cooper Takes The 10pm Time Slot; Two-Hour 360 To Premiere Monday

As rumored and reported on TVNewser for days, Anderson Cooper will anchor a two-hour edition of 360 at 10pm beginning Monday, Nov. 7. (Wolf Blitzer is taking his 7pm time slot.) CNN's press release does not mention Aaron Brown.

Here is the release:

"Anderson Cooper will take the helm of a live news program from 10 p.m. to midnight (ET) on CNN beginning next week. Cooper, who has reported from the scene of such major news events as Hurricane Katrina, the famine in Niger, the Terry Schiavo case, the war in Iraq, the tsunami in South Asia and the 2004 elections, will be topping off CNN's prime-time schedule with two hours dedicated to exploring in-depth the most important and relevant news of the day. Anderson Cooper 360, which debuted on Sept. 8, 2003, will air from its new timeslot beginning Monday, Nov. 7.

"Anderson is one of the most distinctive voices anywhere on television," CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein says in the press release. "He has broken through the clutter with his candor, his humanity and his emotional connection to the most pressing stories of our time. As a result, he has gained a strong following among viewers that we hope to build on."

On a related note, here's an interesting article I read recently about Cooper:

5. I don't think that's what today's press release is saying.
But I could be mis-reading it.

11. Isn't the press release today saying Wolf Blitzer is taking the 7pm slot?
Wasn't that formerly when 360 was on?

15. No. Here's the memo from CNN:
This is the memo to CNN staffers:

To: All CNN Staff

From: Jon Klein

We have made some programming decisions which will impact our prime time schedule as well as our colleague Aaron Brown. Aaron will be leaving CNN and is very much looking forward to some well-deserved time off with his family.

brownnov2.jpgAaron has made enormous contributions to CNN since his groundbreaking anchoring of Sept. 11th through the war in Iraq to the Tsunami to the recent hurricanes. Outside of the big stories, on a nightly basis, Aaron has provided our audiences with insight into the events of the United States and the world with eloquence and the highest journalist integrity.

Besides his stellar work as an anchor, Aaron stands as an absolutely brilliant writer, evident by the thoughtful perspective he injects into every story he touches.

Personally, I will miss Aaron and his wicked sense of humor. We cannot thank Aaron enough for the skills and professionalism he brought to CNN. Given his respect throughout the industry, there is no question that he will be missed.

19. I'm going to miss Aaron Brown.
I enjoyed his newscast, it was the only one on live when I came home from work, and I always found him to be a comforting and calm anchor.

I loved his "Tomorrow's Front Pages" segment.

I like Anderson Cooper, but I wish CNN could have made room for both somehow. Like, take a few hours away from Wolf, for starters.

25. Seriously!
I mean, you would think that there weren't enough anchors or potential anchors in the world, the way they use Wolf. He seems to be on for hours and hours everyday. Are they broke and trying to save on salaries by using him around the clock?

6. did you know
Despite Cooper's illustrious family background -- his mother is socialite Gloria Vanderbilt and his father was the screen writer Wyatt Cooper, who died of a heart attack when Cooper was 10 -- Cooper never chose to ride the tide of comfort. As a student at the Dalton School in New York City, he decided to begin amassing his own income by modeling -- a short-lived career, but a career nonetheless.

22. I know that
And as a Cooper fan this is why I get so angry when ignorant people attack him as some kind of silver spoon type. Unlike Chimp and co Anderson didn't rely on his family, he actually made his way in the world on his own two feet.

13. I wonder how many other changes they are making?
I can't believe Wolff really wants to work THAT many hours every day! The Situation room is from 3 to 6, and if he's doing the 7 to 8 slot too, that just sounds like way too much for one anchor.

I sure hope they don't do away with Jack Cafferty!!!! He's the only reason I ever watch the SR each day!

 i watched that network anyway - Wolf is an idiot - and while Anderson is easy on the eyes, he is worthless as a journalist/reporter/newsman

18. Aw come on, he's not worthless.
Cooper has won several awards for his work, including a National Headliners Award for his tsunami coverage, an Emmy Award for his contribution to ABC's coverage of Princess Diana's funeral; a Silver Plaque from the Chicago International Film Festival for his report from Sarajevo on the Bosnian civil war; a Bronze Telly for his coverage of famine in Somalia; a Bronze Award from the National Educational Film and Video Festival for a report on political Islam; and a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding TV Journalism for his 20/20 Downtown report on high school athlete Corey Johnson.

He snarks at freepers, too, you know.

Check out this gem from September, 2003, when the Plame Affair was just getting started:

Aaron "The Clown" Brown Responds to My email
CNN's Aaron Brown | 9-30-03 | Lance Romance

Posted on 09/30/2003 6:02:01 PM PDT by Lance Romance

My Email to Aaron Brown:

Another poor job of reporting last night regarding the supposed leaking of a CIA "operative" and Joe Wilson's wife. First, you barely covered the fact that Joe's wife is really an "analyst" and not undercover, Robert Novak's admission that the Admin. official didn't call him, Joe's wife's name is on his bio website and the fact that Wilson blamed Karl Rove and then had to retract it. In fact, you seemed more than delighted to perpetuate the scandal than actually cover the facts. Once again, Fox news kicks your ass.

Aaron's Response

Gee, I had no idea. I thought we reported all this stuff(except for the bio which makes no sense at all since the question isn't her name but her job) I guess what this really must be is that the Director of the CIA who asked for the investigation is out to get the President.

I have no idea what Fox did or didn't do. I don't even care. I know what we did and we did just fine. Nice to hear from you.
