Big Dog speaking at Rosa Parks service in Detroit -- some of his words.
Edited on Wed Nov-02-05 12:29 PM by DeepModem Mom
CNN, maybe elsewhere.

Was heartily cheered when he was introduced.

"Mrs. Parks failed the literacy test. In fact, the authorities failed the humanity test."

"In a region where gentlemen are supposed to give up their seats to ladies...."

"So this is the little lady who started the Great War." Quoting Lincoln to Harriet Beecher Stowe.

"I sat in the front, black folk sat in the back." After Rosa, he and two friends started sitting in the back of the bus, "a small gesture."

"A lifetime of grace and dignity -- she let us see what it means to be free."

18. I've been here and there. A few complications from the surgery and
other issues. I'm just not as prolific as I had been.

7. I'm streaming in.
I love how Damon Keith introduced him -- The president of the United States.... -- not the former president....

I wish I could have been there today to hear him, but had to work and knew it would be impossible to get in.

16. By 6 AM there were already over one thousand people in line for the
three thousand seats that were available in the church. I watched the procession from the museum on television. It sure is the end of an era. :(

22. A caught a small part of it on Faux.
My favorite sandwich shop had Faux News on tv. I especially liked the comment about how hw eanted to hear Aretha Franklin sing. He ended that line with "I've heard myself give a speech before." I just had to chuckle at that one.

27. That was one of his most eloquent speeches, I think.
I had no idea that she wasn't able to vote until she was, what did he say, 33 or so? That the authorities couldn't figure out how to flunk her a third time.

Andrew Young, commenting on CNN, said that his brother, a dentist, also failed the literacy tests.
