Intentional Perjury as Sly Political Strategy
Watch out, Mr. Prosecutor. It could all slip away.

John Dean admitted Friday that the Nixon White House had discussed a political strategy to make Watergate simply go away. If they lied to investigators and were charged with perjury and then made plea bargains, the underlying crimes would never be examined. The truth would never be told to the American people.

Intentional perjury as strategy. In this 2005 situation, it's no-lose. Do you see that everyone wonders why such a smart man as Libby would lie so blatantly? It's intentional. It's strategic.

If Libby now pleads guilty and no one else is charged, the American people are denied the full truth. Everything shuts down. The bad guys get away again.

NO PLEA BARGAINS, Mr. Prosecutor! Accept no plea bargains!

We know you want to go home to your pillow in Chicago. We know you're overworked.

Don't be outmaneuvered by these political gamers. No plea bargains!

1. It depends on what plea bargains the prosecutor will offer.
If the prosecutor demands testimony for the prosecution, the investigation can successfully go much deeper.

2. Even if he doesn't turn
he'll take the sentence knowing that it will be short and he will be pardoned. He'll end up part of the Carlyle Group making a fortune. The GOP won't see this as a blot on his record and he'll end up the right wing hero.

3. Bush said Libby has "sacrificed" much in service of the White House
Don't know what else it would be but to "give up" his WH career as the fall guy.

5. It's possible, and probably likely...
...but I'm sure Fitz has thought of it too. And I would assume any plea bargains he offers would require the defendant to make a full under-oath testimony as to his role in the affair.

6. did they "wargame" this as a plan?
The plan: Libby blatantly lies to the GJ and FBI so that he would be charged with the "process" charges instead of the substantive charges -- and does so with the plan to plea, which would end the matter for the WH.

I believe Rove and Libby have gamed the investigation.

If Fitzgerald accepts a plea and doesn't indict someone else, the underlying crimes will never see the light of day. They'll all go unscathed.
