Who makes up the Grand Jury??
Is the GJ made up of regular citizens like a typical jury, or is it actually judges/former judges or omething along those lines?

would love to better understand the actual GJ process and who makes up one, process, etc

1. Here's a helpful link:
Here's a whole primer on grand juries.

Grand juries are made up of regular people -- like a jury in a criminal trial. Thanks for asking because I needed to familiarize myself with this stuff, too! ;)

2. I think you just have to be on the jury list.
I knew a man who sat on one for a while and he was a college Prof. but he said the rest were just people like him. Some worked on cars, etc. In that state only one work class was kept off and I think it was a job that could not be replaced. I am sure it was not doctors but right now it has slipped my mind. It was a bad state to stay off jury duty. They made every one turn up.

3. NPR did a bit on this a couple of days ago
Said they were just regular folks like on any jury. Tough to get people to be able to serve because of the length of time GJs go on, but that they typically only meet 2-3 days per week. And, in DC at least, the jury pool contains a lot of government workers who still get paid by their employers for days they serve.
