Fitzgerald expands probe, believes he can get Rove on more serious charges
http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Fitzgerald_expands_probe_believes_he_can_1028.html

In one of the boldest moves yet in the 22-month investigation into the outing of a covert CIA agent to a handful of top reporters covering the White House, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is extending his probe and pursuing much more serious charges against senior White House officials, specifically President Bush’s Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, lawyers directly involved in the case told RAW STORY Friday.

While many people were left confused by news reports that said Rove wouldn't be indicted Friday, the lawyers said that Rove remains under intense scrutiny and added that Fitzgerald is betting on the fact that he can secure an indictment against Rove on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice, the misuse of classified information, and possibly other charges, as early as next week.

1. I would subpoena Michael LeDeen's phone records and compare them
to Rove's and Libby's.

4. All this can be true but Fitz can't admit it at this press conference.
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 01:59 PM by Kagemusha
I'm still listening to it as I type this. He just can't admit it now. But because he CAN'T even if he wanted to, his not doing it in no way whatsoever means he isn't doing exactly what Raw Story is reporting.

As such, secrecy is not only a shield, but a sword...

...And speaking of the conference, Fitz sure was awfully quick to dodge a question about giving witnesses a chance to come back to the grand jury and set the record straight... or maybe two or three chances... (Rove's total appearances: 4)

the rest of them hang, wonder and squirm...

It's absolutely brilliant...and meanwhile, they'll see if Scooter Libby wants to "talk" and maybe lessen the 30 years he's facing to 5 yrs....

:applause:

14. Libby probably assured that he'll be pardoned, in return for his silence.
At this point, there is little reason to believe that Libby would flip.

However, there are other people involved that may not be so sure that the President will Pardon them, because they have not either committed or been charged with committing crimes.

Perhaps, they have other concerns?

These other individuals actually may have the Neo-cons by the balls.

Whether or not they let their dice roll, we shall see in time. <opinion>

7. "choose the right case to charge under that statute"
When asked if the revelation of whether Valerie Plame's status as covert or not, Fitz mentioned that it may be a violation of the Espionage Act and you want to be careful about using that statute and that you have to "choose the right case to charge under that statute."

Sounds like Libby might not be the "right case" to bring that charge up, but another case may ...

9. Watching the press conference, Fitz has been VERY cautious
This guy just might be the most precise lawyer in America. I think he's got some serious dirt on Rove, much more serious than Libby, but he's waiting for the right moment to spring it on us (the last thing he'd want to do is indict and have the charge thrown out. If getting Rove involves some more waiting, I'll gladly oblige :) ).

11. I'm relieved
My prediction was two rounds of indictment, the first for perjury and obstruction and a second round for the actual leak.

Seems about right.

13. WOO-FREAKIN-HOO!
As much as I have been on pins and needles like the rest of you, and would have loved to see Rove get indicted today, I think this is better: let Fitz go a little longer, secure the indictment and nail his ass.

(disclaimer: oh, this is a Raw Story "lawyer says" statement. hope it's true.)

15. Right. I am going to wait and see what happens. Raw
Story named Libby's successor earlier, yet when I clicked the link , no one has been neamed. Raw Story named Addington. Have seen nothing about it anywhere, yet. I did hear Cheny is probably going to split Libby's duties between 2 people. In the meantime--will not read too much speculation, as no one knows what the Grand Jury will do,until it is over.
