I'VE OFFICIALLY GOTTEN MY HOPES UP
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 08:59 AM by berni_mccoy
A couple of weeks ago, I was very pessimistic about the outcome of the investigation. My feelings were that Bush could pardon such things as obstruction of justice and perjury and even the leaking of the CIA info. After all, these guys have blatantly lied and lived a different reality to this point. A blanket set of pardons would be a no-brainer (really) for them.

But then some things developed in the last two days that REALLY look like Fitz is going AFTER TREASON.

Check out these posts:
Two witnesses: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5115592

Fitz looks into the Forgery issue (THIS IS REALLY BIG)!!!!: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5119625

The idea to tie the LEAK with the LIES TO TAKE US TO WAR (DSM) are intriguing and the IDEA IS OUT THERE. Nadler has asked Fitz to expand the investigation as such: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5117143

Senior Military officials have spoken out about the CABAL:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1863267

The PRESS knows the White House has SERIOUS PROBLEMS: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1867158
and
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1866563

And the FREEPERS are FLIPPING OUT (PRAYING FOR PARDONS):
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5121895

But I would say to the Freepers: WE DUers have already been through that thought process, and it's a LOSE LOSE for you all!

Things are about to get very interesting. And I'm proud we've followed it so carefully and closely here at DU. MSM is useless. DU RULES!

 :woohoo:

3. DU does indeed RULE!!
Dang! I am relatively new here (still don't know if I can start topics! LOL!), but DU is the first site I check each a.m.!
The "downside" = I can't stand it that others aren't as (or pretend not to be as) informed as we are!! Especially when they are on TV!

I'm trying to keep the giddy level real low for now, though!

4. Bring on the indictments.
Get it in the public record, whatever it is. Too much speculation about deals, and cover ups and reports.

Get it filed, Mr. Fitzgerald.

11. I don't think he can
I remember reading somewhere that there was some reason Bush wouldn't be able to pull a "Saturday Night Massacre" like Nixon did. It had to do with the way Fitz was appointed (Ashcroft did not appoint him, it was someone who later resigned)... and because Gonzalez was WH counsel at the time (and subject to certain legal restrictions about an investigation that occured when he WAS WH counsel) he (and anyone underneath him) can't fire him unless he resigns as AG.

18. Great autonomy isn't it.
Read more on that blog. Pretty detailed analysis that anyone can get the gist of.

Not only can't he be sacked, but Fitz can take his investigations in whatever direction he wants, as far as he wants.

8. There is a critical mass approaching
For one thing, people do not flip and cooperate with prosecutors unless they are virtually certain of doing serious jail time. That was the first major sign. Fitz getting into the Italian documents and cooperating with the Franklin prosecution is another signal that he is focusing on the big picture as well as the details.

Prosecutors do NOT keep grand juries in session this long and get this much testimony only to say "gee, I guess there was nothing here after all." Fitz has investigated the first WTC bombing, the Mafia and political corruption in Illinois. He KNOWS that it takes time and patience to tease out all the strands of a conspiracy.

Most telling is the constant buzz about the WH in panic/meltdown mode. Chimpco knows that when the million-pound shithammer in Fitz' hand comes down it is going to land right on the WH. The only questions are who finks out who in order to save himself and how wide the fallout is going to be. The old Chimpco arrogance is gone, and the only possible reason for that is that they know they are going down.

Perhaps the Irish will end up kicking the Bush family's ass after all.

One Fitzgerald will be avenging the murder of another.

Karma might just be catching up with these thugs.

13. A quick review of the links you posted leads
to the unavoidable conclusion that there is an international conspiracy at work here. The crucial connection is Ledeen. He is a critical link between AIPAC and the PNACers. The Likudniks, under the cover of PNAC, have taken over a substantial part of the US government. The overlap between the two groups is too extensive to be coincidental. The meta-question is, just who are these people loyal to, and for what reasons? In the words of Elmer Fudd, "something scwewy is going on here." Or maybe I need a :tinfoilhat:

27. Could all the conspiracy kooks be vindicated?
Does one need a tinfoil hat when they're actually right? Even from the tiny scattered bits that end up in respectable sources, it should be clear to anyone that there is a conspiracy and it's been going on for at least 25 years, not just since ** started squatting at the White House.

We have a clique of war profiteers, oil barons, Armageddon fanatics, and gangsters running this country. No one (at least anyone reading DU) would disagree with this. Their plan is to destabilize the oil producing regions of the world so they can swoop in and make all the profits out of that there black stuff in the ground and a little extra under-the-table cash moving drugs and guns. If people who aren't rich or powerful happen to die as a result of these transactions, it's just algebra to them as they manipulate the totals to say whatever they want them to.

Because their criminal activities in the Middle East happen to coincide with the goals of certain fundamentalist Christians (namely the destruction of the entire planet so they can get raptured away while everyone else burns), they have used religion as a crutch. Very few of them are even religious at all and even fewer actually belong to the denominations their act is geared towards. While using Christianity for their purposes, they have spread racism, sexism, and homophobia throughout the world. They're not even particularly racist, sexist, or homophobic themselves(they just hate everyone), but as long as they can convince people to eschew progressive ideas because some "undeserving eaters" would be helped by them, they win.

Most of our mainstream media is owned and all of it is supported by those who profit from bloodshed and suffering. 99% of what is published and broadcast in the US (and smaller but significant percentages in other Western nations)supports corporatist and fundamentalist views. News agencies just parrot whatever anyone in power hands them. The entertainment content we receive is also mostly supportive of these goals, but because there are dirty words and breasts involved, the entities producing them are called the "liberal media". A few token progressives (Stewart, Olbermann, the AAR roster, etc.) are allowed on the stage and can't push too hard because they'd suddenly come down with an attack of "low ratings".

There is no statute of limitations on treason or murder. If Fitz can crack through the lies that led us to Gulf War II, he can open up the whole can of worms about 9/11, Gulf War I, Somalia, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, and any other place where Americans have died due to sexed-up intelligence. Not sure what the statute on election fraud is, but he might be able to nail them on 1980 as well as 2000 and 2004.

The Plame affair alone should be massive as all the piggies squeal to avoid being strapped to a gurney (which, since I don't support capital punishment, don't even think should happen to them. I'd hope a progressive President would commute those sentences to life without parole.) and everyone goes down. Fitz has the power to dig deeper. If he has the will to do so, it'll make Nuremberg and the Truth Commission look like small-town traffic court.

20. how to keep from jumping up and down?
I need ankle weights or something... I tell myself not to get my hopes up but every few minutes I find myself ignoring myself and engaging in joyful jumping in place. I wonder how many calories that uses?

In the Philadelphia International airport about midnight last night I caught these snippets:

'Bush has done such a piss poor job for all these years'.

'It will be Dems all the way in 08!'

'George has ruined it for Jeb.'

Ah, the music of high hopes. Is it really official?!

21. Aggghhh!!! This is so frustrating.
I feel like such a mental midget at times like these. I'm lost in the tangled web of intrigue and have great difficulty following the threads. That and I don't have the time to unravel it to my satisfaction. I'm going to just have to trust everyone here that there is cause for optimism.

I guess it wouldn't be a good plan if it wasn't complicated though. I just wish I were smarter and more patient at times.

22. Here is a nice thread with some info on Fitzgerald - who he is and why.
Edited on Fri Oct-21-05 10:04 AM by Pirate Smile
Fitzgerald: his experience with the snooty rich shaped his worldview
http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh072505.html

VON DREHLE: Fitzgerald is the son of Irish immigrants -"fresh off the boat," in the words of John Goggins, a prominent corporate lawyer in New York who has known Fitzgerald since high school. He grew up in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn and won a scholarship to Regis High School in Manhattan, a highly competitive Jesuit academy.

He worked his way through Amherst College, cleaning the school's restrooms and painting walls. In summers, the math and economics major earned more tuition money as a school janitor and part-time doorman in some of the same Upper East Side luxury buildings where his father had worked as a doorman for years.

Fitzgerald got his fill of rich and powerful people that way, Goggins said.

"He had numerous funny anecdotes about being treated shabbily by residents who didn't realize this was a Phi Beta Kappa from Amherst, and later a Harvard Law School student, holding the door." According to his friends, Fitzgerald never resented the slights, but he also made it clear that he was never going to seek the approval of such people.

29. I'm swinging the opposite way
Proabably just because my (undiagnosed) anxiety disorder is killing me about know. The hurricane worries me (both for the poor Yucatan-which was my first time out of the country in five years this year and for the timing and for the gulf and for everything) my cat had surgery TWICE and now is fine (but yesterday we find a leftover thread and the husband freaks out-it was nothing) my best friend's father gets better-gets worse-almost dies-is okay again and yeow..everything on God's green earth says there MUST BE INDICTMENTS but I (we) been down so long-I don't know how to believe anything anymore. Of course this neatly ties in with the Kerry election anniversary (11/2 a date I cannot even handle thinking about) and I still think he won!

Justice must come. Won't get fooled again. Don't count your chickens-oh I KNOW and it irritates the hell out of me to be told as such.

Oh I can't read anymore speculation or hope or doom. This is killing me and I know it's killing everyone.

If it's any consulation I get really anxious and doom laden at the end of any trial. It's the worse part for me-the last days on the job-not the four years of misery. It's almost here BUT.....
