Prosecutor widening CIA leak probe
http://news.ft.com/cms/s/31df4bc4-3f73-11da-932f-00000e2511c8.html

Evidence is building that the probe conducted by Patrick Fitzgerald, special prosecutor, has extended beyond the leaking of a covert CIA agent's name to include questioning about the administration's handling of pre-Iraq war intelligence.

According to the Democratic National Committee, a majority of the nine members of the White House Iraq Group have been questioned by Mr Fitzgerald. The team, which included senior national security officials, was created in August 2002 to "educate the public" about the risk posed by weapons of mass destruction on Iraq.

Mr Fitzgerald, who has been applauded for conducting a leak-free investigation, has said little publicly about his 22-month investigation, other than that it is about the "potential retaliation against a whistleblower", Joseph Wilson.

After Mr Wilson, a former ambassador, went public with doubts about the evidence that Iraq was developing nuclear weapons, the name of his wife, Valerie Plame, a CIA official, was leaked to reporters.

2. Just imagine if Fitz's probe was widened a la Ken Starr.

Such a probe would give new meaning to the term "endless prosecution" and the Republicans would probably be put out of business (and politics) for decades to come.

***Sigh*** A girl can dream...

3. Yeah
Too bad he couldn't do that. Fitzgerald is more classy though I think. He's probably only focusing all his energy on this case as he should. He's such a professional and has been doing a very respectful job with this case. Everyone has said positive things about Fitzgerald, even Bush, that they can't turn around and call him a partisan politician.

4. As an Illinoisan, I owe him many thanks.
Not only for exposing the rampant corruption of our former republican governor George Ryan, but for being brave enough to take on da Democratic (Machine) Mayor Daley's administration (which has garnered 22 convictions so far).

He's one of the good ones.

5. The irony is that what opened the investigation is not their

outrageous lies but their petty revenge
