I'm hearing on a daily basis that * was under a lot of pressure to appoint a total RW whack-job of the Janice Rogers Brown variety to the SCOTUS. Apparently everyone from the usual cast of wingnut talking heads, all the way up to Gonzales and even Cheney himself were leaning on the boy. As the father of 9 and 12 year old sons, I well remember the "terrible twos" and the accompanying petulant acts of defiance in the face of authority. Granted, at age two both of my boys were slightly smarter and MUCH more well-spoken than *, but the similarity is striking.

1. He's the commander, see, he doesn't need to explain things

As he told Bob Woodward, "That's the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation."

Petulant is the right word. Defiant is another one. We have a president who is acting out(!) Our only hope is that his own party will finally realize that they have to be the grownups here and send him off for a lo-o-o-ong timeout.
