39% approve, but only 28% say the country is on the right track. This means that some of the people who do approve, also think we are on the wrong track.

I mean, some people approve of Bush but think the country is headed to hell in a handbasket because of the "gay agenda" or some similar reason.

4. How else can these people rationalize their approval?

I hear echos of this on AM hate radio all the time. You'd think that the evil shadow liberal government was actually running things, and that the Reep Congress, President and Supreme Court was powerless.

Think I'm kidding? How many times does Sean say "They won't let us do that..." without ever identifying who the hell "they" are?

Pretty often, I'd bet.

I think they are out there but people like us don't associate with them. We either pretend or make sure they don't exist (in our heads at least).
