scum Anderson Cooper repeated the AMTRAK lie
He repeated the lie that AMTRAK offered a train to evacuate people from the city. There has never been any evidence of that and Mayor Nagin said AMTRAK claimed they were all booked up. Some people here have thought Anderson Cooper was such a great person for his reporting on Katrina, but he's no better than any of the other neo-con talking heads trying to put the blame on the local officals.

2. He might be wrong on this issue, but he is NOT scum
for God's sake.

Just look up the correct information and politely email it to him. Save your scorn for people like Kyra Phillips.

12. She is the worst in my opinion
Too many inflections and putting her own spin on things. I can't watch her at all.

7. I've never heard Kyra Phillips say anything unfair
Anderson told the same tale on Nancy Grace about 3 weeks ago. I see him as trying to cover for the Bush administration's incompetence during Katrina.

9. Isn't Kyra Phillips the one Nancy Pelosi screamed at
about being on the White House payroll? Look, I am positive that Anderson Cooper is wrong here, I just think he's a cut above most at CNN.

11. I saw that
But I think Kyra was defending the administration. I actually thought she was pretty objective during the Katrina debacle.

6. Amtrack supplied the name of Mayor Nagin's assistant
They named the assistant they spoke to and supposedly made the offer to but they didn't talk to the major himself. Sounds like a miscommunication or a lie but I'm not sufficiently all-knowing to say exactly what happened. I guess Anderson Cooper doesn't consider himself all-knowing either and is trying to get to the bottom of it by asking questions.

14. I thought FEMA declined the offer?
http://www.democrats.org/a/2005/09/now_is_a_time_f.php

FEMA Refused Amtrak's Offer Of Trains To Evacuate Victims. "Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency of 'dragging its feet' when Amtrak offered trains to evacuate victims. 'Offers of medicine, communications equipment and other desperately needed items continue to flow in, only to be ignored by the agency,' she said."

Or was this just an "accusation"?

16. The way I heard it they were all booked but sent in a last train (empty)
for maintenance, etc. reasons. And as the evacuation order was out - they called and said they had an empty train late in the day. No warning. It was not a scheduled train or part of the evacuation plane.

I don't think it really matters. How would you get anyone to the train without bus-drivers? Or if you announced it on the radio - you could have a mob there with nowhere for them to go once the small train left.

Hey, lots of people offered and were turned down. Why would Cooper lie about this?
