WHO moves to head off panic over flu fears
http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache:GL30sHYNOK0J:www.unison.ie/stories.php3%3Fca%3D10%26si%3D1480143+WHO+moves+to+head+off+panic+over+flu+fears&hl=en

THE World Health Organisation yesterday moved to dampen fears over alarming predictions quoted by one of its own officials. The official had claimed that a pandemic stemming from the bird flu virus ravaging parts of Asia could kill as many as 150m people.

The UN health agency was fielding inquiries from both the media and the general public after Dr David Nabarro - a senior WHO official named yesterday as the new UN co-ordinator for avian and human influenza - cited the number during a news conference at the UN's New York headquarters.

WHO's flu spokesman at the agency's Geneva headquarters made a surprise appearance today at the UN regular media briefing in an effort to put Nabarro's comments in context.

While he did not say the 150m prediction was wrong, or even implausible, he reiterated that WHO considers a maximum death toll of 7.4m a more reasoned forecast.

1. Yep that is a problem, but what about the bigger problem?
This is a problem, but we have a bigger problem to deal with, and that is the Bush crime family.
They are the real threat to us.

2. 30 year experienced nurse in metropolitan denver running 2 hospitals
this is for real people. i talked to this woman who has been a nurse for 30 years in one hospital and has been moved to work in a new hospital also. she is top of the rung. one hospital does drills on outbreaks in community.

she had not heard about the "bird" flu. (she voted bush). what i say, you havent heard about bird flu. bush has press conference to bring in military to take over a region and hospitals havent even been informed. well the first thing our brilliant leader needs to do is get in touch with hospitals anyway, i would think.

anyway, she doesnt see it any different than most all other stuff that comes their way. but i did laugh and laugh at our foolish leader to implement military action before even addressing the medical angle of a horrid disease.
