'The Sociopath Next Door', by Martha Stout, PHD
Got this book yesterday, the first description of a sociopath is of a man who, as a child, killed bullfrogs by stuffing firecrackers in their mouths! He also has a submissive wife and two daughters. Sound like anybody we know?

1. You're not laughing at the fact that this man put firecrackers in....

frogs mouths...are you?

Torturing animals as a child is an extremely troubling indicator. And a common action of future serial murderers.

Not all sociopaths are serial murderers...but all serial murderers are sociopaths.

Torturing animals is in no way amusing. Sorry if I misconstrued what you were trying to say. But if I'm taking it that way, I thought I should let you know as other posters could take it the same way.

14. bush's best friend says so...
"We were terrible to animals," recalled Mr. Throckmorton, laughing. A dip behind the Bush home turned into a small lake after a good rain, and thousands of frogs would come out.

"Everybody would get BB guns and shoot them," Mr. Throckmorton said. "Or we'd put firecrackers in the frogs and throw them and blow them up."

8. Yes, but not in their mouths, I read
the other end.

I wish some reporter would ask him about that while some French dignitary is visiting.

"Sir, is it true that you shoved firecrackers up the backsides of helpless frogs?"

12. Sounds to me like the original poster was making fun
of the book's similarity to the story of a certain someone.

4. Of course it is *...
When I was a child a friend of mine put a firecracker in a baby pigeons mouth. He did not remain my friend after I beat him to a pulp. Who was worst? Him for killing the baby pigeon or me for beating him?

6. He was worse...
I would not only have done the same thing you did...I would STILL do it today as a grown man.

Torturing animals is about as low as one can get. Just the thought of it makes me want to put my fist through a wall.

Talks about sociopaths in power too.

13. I should point out
...doing bad things to animals alone is not a sole indicator of sociopathy. A lot of children with developmental problems that can't associate behavior and emotions sometimes do such things. They can and do grow up to be normal non-sociopathic adults.

However, given Bush's background and other behavior, he's a classic sociopath. His father is as well.

15. Yes, but you don't understand...
the frogs were stockpiling weapons of mass destruction, and we had to take the fight to the frogs so that the frogs would not bring their fight here.

Either you are with us, or you are with the frogs, and those who speak ill of blowing up frogs with firecrackers only embolden the frogs.

We must be prepared to make sacrifices and spend many years fighting the frogs. It will be a different kind of war.

25. Aristophanes anyone?
Brekekekex, ko-ax, ko-ax,
Brekekekex, ko-ax, ko-ax!
We children of the fountain and the lake
Let us wake
Our full choir-shout, as the flutes are ringing out,
Our symphony of clear-voiced song.
The song we used to love in the Marshland up above,
In praise of Dionysus to produce,
Of Nysaean Dionysus, son of Zeus,
When the revel-tipsy throng, all crapulous and gay,
To our precinct reeled along on the holy Pitcher day,
Brekekekex, ko-ax, ko-ax.
