Report: Vatican Says No Gay Priests Unless They Prove Chastity for 3 Years

VATICAN CITY (AP) - An upcoming Vatican document on gays and the priesthood says men who demonstrate homosexual tendencies cannot become priests unless they can show they have lived chastely for at least three years, an Italian newspaper reported Friday.

Men who publicly show their homosexuality and those who reveal an attraction to the gay lifestyle should be refused admission to the clergy, the Corriere della Sera daily said.

The report, by the newspaper's chief Vatican correspondent, Luigi Accattoli, cited sources who spoke to him about the document from the Vatican's Congregation for Catholic Education. The Italian weekly Panorama said in its Friday editions that Pope Benedict XVI approved the document during the summer.

A Vatican official declined to comment on the reports Friday, saying only that the document would be published very soon.

My partner told me about a friend she works with who is catholic and goes to church every Sunday with her family. Well for the last few years, part of their service was for the whole congregation to join hands and pray for peace. Now just recently the priest at this church has told the congregation that they're not going to join hands anymore...this new Pope doesn't people holding hands in church...:wtf:

Frequently in church I end up sitting next to someone who is coughing, sneezing, nose-blowing, etc. Then it's "Our Father" time and the person is trying to grab my hand. No thanks.

The Pope's reasons may well be different, but for me, it's a basic health issue.
