15. The No Voters to McCain:
Cornyn and Stevens...the usual Neanderthals.

Is this a major revolt? It's a big slap at Gonzales, Rummy, Cheney and Bush who wouldn't apply the Geneva Convention to Taliban prisoners and Al-Qaeda suspects.

22. Yeah, recently he said that they "would not repeal the tax cuts
(for the wealthiest 1%) of 2003 because they had created millions of jobs."

This lying dirty bastard is my Senator along with that crook Hutchison.

10. I've been watching the vote and
I have a question. Isn't this just an amendment to a larger appropriations bill? If so, doesn't the whole bill have to pass for this to mean anything? Or, is there a line-item veto on the appropriations bill?

16. Look at it from the other end-they need to pass the appropriations bill
and this is the second time McCain has tried to get this prisoner treatment amendment passed. The first time the Senate pitched it. This time it will go through because it's tied to appropriations, which, as Stevens has repeatedly said, has to get passed this week.

Bush does not have line-item veto

23. Thanks -- that makes me feel better
I didn't see how they could possibly not pass the on a bipartisan basis and I guess I was right for once. Is there any way it can get pulled before the bill goes for final approval?

13. We have to keep a careful eye on this according to McCain;
the amendment could be pulled in the House/Senate finalizing committee.

25. I heard Michael Savage ripping him on this..
Called him McKennedy ( I guess thats supposed to be an insult). He said this proves he got too messed up in the Hanoi Hotel to be in politics. Then said he should have just sold plumbing supplies in Tuscon.

29. Well done. But it's a sad day.
It's a sad day when this nation, of all nations, has to pass an amendment for what seems to be such an obvious thing.

And against administration wishes, to boot.
