Ex-CIA man to discuss presidency

Ray McGovern says there's a 55 percent chance the Bush administration will "plant" weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He insists the leak of a spy's name -- possibly by the White House -- jeopardizes national security. And he says the administration's abuse of power for political gain "just couldn't be worse."

This from the man who conducted daily intelligence briefings with Bush's dad.

....It's a view he claims is shared by many rank-and-file CIA analysts and operatives.
"They are just scandalized beyond description," said McGovern, who worked for seven presidents -- from Kennedy to George Bush - in his 27 years with the CIA. He's now a director of the Servant Leadership School, a Christian education center in Washington, D.C.

That's not likely to happen, he said, since it would hurt Bush's re-election chances.

"The alternative is politically unpalatable," he said.
McGovern joined "the company," as the CIA is known, in 1963, believing it was the best way for a Russian-studies major to serve his country. He worked for four Republican and three Democratic administrations and said no one ever pressured him to exaggerate intelligence for political gain.
