sorry but please no more presidents or judges from Texas
Texas has given us enough

Lyndon Johnson who killed 60 thousands Americans, and God knows how many civilians, and two bushs who both carried out pre-emptive wars against Iraq, killed hundreds of thousands of civillians, thousands of Americans, and vets still can't get treatment for agent orange or gulf war syndrom

enough is enough

1. Ann Richards
She's getting a little long in the tooth to place in the WH, but I would have voted for her.

2. There are plenty of decent people in Texas.
Most of them live in and around Austin.

We shouldn't stereotype an entire state.

9. I don't deny that, and you are correct, but too many people have died
I am tired of RAMBO politics

It won't really matter, because the neocons have already won, just watch the democrats fold again

It will be at least seven to ten years before people realize what they have done to the country by voting bush and company in. I know they are NOT from Texas originally, but they were elected by people in Texas, and they made it to where they are today because of it

Once the die is set, they will control all three branches of government

All I can say is I am glad I covered my ass and went long oil and natural gas when bush and company won in 2000.

The only hope the country really has is moderate repukes, and I sincerely doubt that they will have the courage to act

21. you are right
but I hedged myself. I have to watch out for my family. I have voted Democratic for the last 30 years, and I am left of center, but when I saw Gore distance himself from Clinton, choose Liberman as a VP, I started to rethink. Then in 2000 Dashille was soooo accomodating to this administration, but it was 2004 when Kerry was in the Grand Canyon, and the press asked him would he vote on the Iraq war the same way knowing what he knows now, and he said yes, I knew we were in trouble.

The Democrats better fight this nomination through filibuster until they know what Fitzgerald has. If they outed a CIA agent, there is NO WAY they should be allowed to appoint any more judges

33. See my initial response above.
I've indicated I don't think it's right to hate Texas. Reading the thread before posting is usually a good idea.

But you seem to think that just because Bush isn't from Texas, that Texas bears no repsonsibility for him. That is not correct.

And Bush's presidential elections were much closer than his Texas gubernatorial elections.

You lose.

He is NOT our "responsibility". btw, when we moved to Nevada, Ann Richards was governor. I have NEVER voted for the weasel. Texas has a lot of yankee transplants. Don't know if you realize that. Maybe THEY are to blame.

Think what you want. I'm done with this thread.

11. Texas has given us too much
I could not agree more. How much longer will the rest of the country put up with having Texas and Texas crooks and liars shoved down it's throat?
As any student of state government knows Texas is the national laboratory for bad government. If it was poorly conceived, badly executed and a complete failure, then in Texas that is called success and then the mistake will be imposed on the whole nation. In Texas government the cream does not rise to the top. Rather the smelliest turds float to the top of the cess pit and then the stream runs straight to Washington. Before 2000, everyone knew about the Rove and Bush mafia. Now the rest of the country must suffer.

and NO WAY did I wish or want the hurricane disaster to occur

In a way you are right, Texas is no better or worse than the rest of the country. They also voted for these people, but I will tell you there are major differences between the North and the South.

The South seems to vote more against their best interests than the North.

when I lived in las vegas, I didn't like Cali-fuckin-fornians. They drove like maniacs. Filled the city on weekends. Beat me at Texas hold-em (on occasion). Then I visited the beautiful, friendly and lovely state of California. I changed my mind. Perhaps an idea for you.

Texans will not be scapegoats. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=180

In Los Angeles they may fight in the streets, in Texas we fight in the back alley. Find someone else to blame for the current situation. This is just distraction from real issues.

Oh. And say hi to Arnold.

I can see many of you are put off by the theme of this thread which makes no room for the good things about Texas. IMHO, DU is a message board where "anybody" can post "anything", and these transient thoughts mostly just end up in a giant archive somewhere. Rather than dwelling in the angst here, I would advocate finding some other way to spend your time.

41. watching Texas politics is a great past time
We here in Texas are past shock and surprise. There are good things about Texas, no doubt. The Hill Country, the Bid Bend. There are wonderful people. Much like the rest of America just writ larger. As an outsider (non-native, only lived here for 40 years) I see this sense of 'specialness' that many Texans assign themselves. Damned if I can figure out what it is. The history of the state revolves around the sacred 'Remember the Alamo' mentality. Folks, the Alamo was a major military blunder. We do have a unique talent for selecting the worst among us to lead the state and by some tragic twist of fate, they wind up leading the country. My wife loves me, but that love does not blind her to my faults. You can like Texas, but never be blinded by the Texas bullshit.

He got into Viet Nam and didn't know what to do!

It's clear from the phone recordings from the Oval Office how deeply conflicted he was about it!

And he did alot of great things in office.

The Bushes are just political hacks with enriching their buddies as their primary goal!

38. Is Texas politics
more corrupt than othe places? I doubt it. Texas is a big state and
I'd say, it's a combination of oil money, and traditions of cronyism which generally has had a corrupting influence on society.

Do you really think Bush would have been any less of a corrupt bastard had he been from some other state? I doubt it. Crooks will take advantage of wherever they are. Oddly enough, they barred corporate donations to their state campaigns, so in that sense their laws were stronger than federal laws.

40. just lip service on corporate money
Anyone in Texas knows that Delay's trick are old hat. The millions are spent on lobbying and other big money flows out of the state, is laundered and then comes back home. Even in Texas politics, Delay is a standout. A brasher, bolder style of the Texas 'Fuck You' politics. He's damaged goods, the plea bargain is in place. Just watch. In my first post I should have noted I live in Texas and have watched all this from a front row seat. Lucky me.
