Pope RATz's strategy is to build church membership with rePUKE fundies
There is the new ban on gay priests and last week I read Pope RATz is "uncomfortable" with Darwin.

Obviously Pope RATz is on a campaign to replace the dwindling catholic membership by appealing to the evil anti inclusion anti-science tendencies of rePUKE fundies.

The church will be unrecognizable in 10 years compared to what it's been since Vatican II. It will look just like any backward fundie rePUKE protestant sect.

1. I'd expect he's getting some dialogue in with Rev. Moon, too
since "Father" wield$ a lot of power in FundieWorld (and GOPWashingtonWorld too, for that matter)...

2. I've heard too many repuke fundies
condemn Catholics to hell for "worship" of the Virgin Mary. Also, the repuke fundies have embraced "prosperity" teaching which makes their beliefs incompatible with the anit-poverty leanings of the Catholic church.

3. In America, maybe, but in developing countries, where...
...in the eyes of impoverished populations, the Church, as protector and provider, usurps governments, a rightwing pope will have a huge impact for many generations to come.

4. No one expects the German Inquisition!
Yeah, get out your sleds 'cause it's all downhill from here.

Is he the creepiest-looking guy ever or what? Can you say 'vampire bat'? I knew you could!

Here comes the war against: the human body, political autonomy for those countries with large Catholic populations but don't want to dance to the puppet strings, academic freedom on Catholic institute campuses, medical freedoms at their hospitals , freedom of speech in general, liberation for women, all those other things we crazy modernists like so darn much. I am speaking not so much of inner Catholic beliefs but of the handing over of the reigns of the organization to the far right. Yeah, it's back to the '50s...the 1350s.

Better get out your flame-retardant suits. I here they're setting up tree trunks in the city square for some reason!

8. If Ratzinger keeps going like this Malachy's (etc) prophecy may come true
or (which I tend to lean more towards) maybe he's trying to make sure it will much like I tend to think BushCo, the neo-CONs & fundies are working on deliberatelty rigging the "apocolypse".

11. I agree totally
In addition, I believe that the fundies have been moving to the hierarchical structure of the Catholic church, too. Gone is the idea of free will. Free will is replaced with the hierarchical structure interpreting God's will for you. No need to think for yourself.
