Ok, here's what scares me more than anything.
California is supposed to be a Democratic state, but in this election Republicans got about 61% of the vote, according to the early returns. Plus, there was a HUGE turnout. I'm worried that Arnold brought in plenty of new voters who are going to become Republicans simply because their hero is. Then CA will be a Repuke state, or at least more competative. What do you all think?

1. well, Arnold IS a democrate
I remember finding out what he was for and I said "thats a democrate using a republican stamp"

it makes no sense. Why would he stamp himself as a republican but have all ideas of a democrat?

It has me confused.

9. So cutting taxes and bailing out Enron is now a Democratic idea?
Things must be awful quiet over in the Mensa forums these days.

2. Reaganator 2
That's what I think.

By the time Arnold loses any semblance of sentience, the Hatch ammendment will have been ratified, making him the perfect ascendent to the throne. Presto! Voila! Reagan, the sequel.

We'll have to send someone back in time to kill him before he enters the recall race. (j/k, mr. fbi)

OK, I'm too tired to think anymore. Typing seems impaired as well. G'nite.

10. Yes, we have got to watch that Hatch bill
AND the Snyder bill (which would allow naturalized citizens to be eligible after being a citizen for 35 years)....How long has Arnold been a citizen? I think he would even qualify for this one by the end of his Gov. term in 2006.

3. you really think most democrats are that way because they're smart?
that's your error, i think. they aren't smart. most are fucking stupid. so are most republicans. you don't necessarily make the right choice (or the wrong choice) for the right reasons.

4. There are several scenarios at play
1.- tin foil hats are fully the in fashion (mostly due to the
peoople dropped from rolls... isolated cases it happens, even if
it is me, a pattern tin foil is in)

2.- Voter revolt with people buying the BS and not realizing just
how much of the state's pain is beause of Republicans and not Davis...
not that davis is off the hook. If this is the case, good news as this is going to affect chimpy negatively

3.- New voters brought in who are republican

I would say it is a combination, some tin foil... (how much or how little we will not know for a while and depending if the ACLU gets involved) A voter revolt, which will affect 2004 Presidential Election and finally Arnie did attract young voters... who may or may not conect what goes on with what happens to their lives with Arnie.

5. Actually...
...turnout wasn't that great. 7 million out of 23 or something. They had motivation to turn out. All those who may have voted for Davis, a little miffed that they were being asked to return to the polls to "re-vote". It's all complete bullshit.

Also these numbers:

NO ON RECALL --> 3,294,717
Arnold Schwarzenegger --> 3,332,480

40k votes...

Gee, anyone recall (no pun intended), what the ACLU said regarding the number of potential spoiled and disenfranchised votes?

Oh yeah...40k...

Pay no attention. Please move along...

Arnold's problems started tonight too, you know.

Hope for the best in Cali, and deal with the natural consequences.

8. Thanks for the responses.. Here's what I'm hoping.
I'm hoping that plenty of Dems voted for Arnold -- people who obviously still vote against Bush and most Repukes. Plus, I hope any new voters that Arnold brought in will not, although they like A.S., be straight ballot Repukes. That's all I can hope for now.

12. You're wrong - the turnout is not huge
2000 turnout:
11,141,740 of 15,707,307 for 71%

2003 turnout as it stands now without the absentee ballots
7,666,002 of 15,380,536 for 49.8%

even if you add 2 million absentee ballots you'll end up with 63% turnout

While the GOP turned out to the polls in similar propotions to the 2000 vote, the Dems failed to match them. I posted in another thread that the Dem strongholds failed miserably in their GOTV effort. It is almost unbelieveble - 52% in SF, 49% in LA, 55% in Alameda.

And here comes the question about the Dem tactic from the beginning:

Should Davis have resigned when it became clear that there will be enough votes collected for the recall?
Should someone other than Bustamante was on the ballot?
Should Davis have run this sort of campaign?

The bottom line is that dem voters obviously didn't find a good enough reason to go to the polls.

2004 will be another story. Bush is not AS. He is not a movie star. He is pro life, anti gay, far right republican piece of shit.

14. Good news and bad news
Just as they ensured Davis failure ENRON and others will curtail their clandestine sabbatage of the energy situation in CA and make it work for Arnie.

The good news from this election could be that the Funddie RWingnuts are losing their grip on our politics.
The bad news is that they are losing their grip while AIPAC is increasing its grip.

16. Arnold = Reagan. The U.S. tanks because of voter ignorance/apathy.
Revolution is near because it has to be. Revolutions are NEVER planned but are a natural consequence of conditions. Arnold will complete the destruction of CA as Reagan began their demise.
