Dang chain letters!
From my aunt, whom I don't think is political at all...

Subject: DON'T BUY PEPSI IN THE NEW CAN!

Don't buy Pepsi in the new can. Pepsi has a new "patriotic" can
coming out with pictures of the Empire State Building, and the
Pledge of Allegiance on them.
However, Pepsi left out two little words on the pledge,
"Under God."
Pepsi said they didn't want to offend anyone.
In that case, we don't
want to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate office, either!
So if we don't buy any Pepsi product, they will not be offended
when they don't receive our money that has the words
"In God We Trust" on it.
HOW FAST CAN YOU FORWARD THIS ONE?
---
Well, first, I'll decide what I want to buy, thank you very much. I enjoy the soft drinks, and I like Pepsi. The can won't affect me that much other than...oh cool...new swirly design. I've gotten cans which offer discounts to events if you bring them in, also design changes for holidays which are nice and corporately benign.

If Pepsi wishes to educate us about the pledge of allegiance, perhaps they'd also oblige the public with other philosophical phrases and teachings. I would object to an overt use of a deity to sell product, so the original phrasing of the pledge (before "under God" was added) is sufficient. The Empire State building is a great design image, so that is in no way offensive.

Absence of mention should not constitute offense in everyday affairs.

Oh Gawd
Reply to all and ask the person who sent it to site their source. (They probably won't even know what that means)

3. Reply to all with this
http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/undergod.asp

It's fake as fucking fuck, just another republican driven lie, and it's fucking three years old already, too.

let them know that if republicans and fundy hate-based Christians would bother doing just one fucking iota of research, they wouldn't be starting and spreading their hurricanes of lies, and America would be a better, more intelligent place.

4. You know, you might ask her if she ever wondered why
the author of the pledge (a BAPTIST minister), Frances Bellamy, didn't put that 'under god' in there in the first place. It was added in 1954 as a sop to the Knights of Columbus by President Eisenhower.
