Know your BFEE: Reinhard Gehlen
One guy I wished the late Simon Wiesenthal would have been able to bring to justice was Reinhard Gehlen. The record shows that particular investigation was stymied P.D.Q by Bush Family Evil Empire. The reason they (the Secret Government) needed the NAZI spy in the new Cold War against the commie Soviets and Red Chinese.

Well, I would do whatever was needed to defend America. I believe, if needed, I would be willing to sacrifice my self in the defense of my country, the Constitution and We the People. I hope I would never, however, forgive an enemy who had killed millions of innocent people including hundreds of thousands of my countrymen in the name of fascism for "patriotism."

So, who was Gehlen? He was the German master spy who

The Case of Nazis in the CIA

The Gehlen Org: From OSS to CIA

On April 1, 1945, a convoy of eleven trucks wound its way through Bavaria, traveling south from Berlin, away from the advancing Red Army who was at that moment conducting their own blitzkrieg through eastern Germany. Aboard the trucks were hand-picked German intelligence officers who guarded a very special cargo. Inside crates that had been carefully stacked and hidden under the canvas tops of the trucks were the most valued prizes of the head of German military intelligence: the files on Russia.

The purpose of the convoy was not to transport the documents to the Last Redoubt, but to remove them from harm's way altogether for use as future bargaining chips with the advancing Allies. For the files, which were the fruit of five years of intensive intelligence gathering on Russia, were now the personal property of a youthful 40 year-old general named Reinhard Gehlen. And with them, he planned on bargaining his way to a very special arrangement--with the Americans

At the same time, Gehlen's existence in Allied hands quite coincidentally became known to General "Wild Bill" Donovan, head of the OSS, and his station chief in Europe, Allen Dulles. In August, Gehlen and three assistants were covertly flown to Washington and secreted away at Camp David for interviews with both Military Intelligence and the OSS. Apparently the OSS offered the best deal, for within a eighteen months the Gehlen Org, resurrected from the original Nazi spy network, had been installed in West Germany to act as the eyes and ears of the newly-created CIA.

The story that Captain Bokor, using great foresight and planning, managed all of these feats of clandestine operations on his own is too incredible to be true. It is not probable that a company-grade officer would risk his career to protect a Nazi war criminal, or put himself personally in jeopardy by wantonly violating international agreements. In any normal case, such activity would earn him a courts martial. It is even more improbable that Gehlen would stumble into the one American in a thousand that would quickly see the value in what Gehlen purported to offer and immediately begin work to protect not only Gehlen, but his officers.

What is more believable is that Gehlen had made these arrangements far in advance. By using certain trusted contacts within the German High Command who had both pre-war and current business dealings across national boundaries, Gehlen had coordinated a deal with a specified contact within the American intelligence community. Namely Allen Dulles.

So where does the BFEE fit in?

Follow the money Prescott Bushs business chum was Allen Dulles, the guy who one day would head of the CIA and later serve the country on the Warren Commission.

Sen. Prescott Bush (on the right) straightens out Sen. Tricky Dickie his young chum's tie.

Back to the subject: Here's the way the BFEE -- the Secret Government -- greased the way for Gehlen and his incoming NAZI horde...

Operation Paperclip Casefile

Convinced that German scientists could help America's postwar efforts, President Harry Truman agreed in September 1946 to authorize "Project Paperclip," a program to bring selected German scientists to work on America's behalf during the "Cold War"
However, Truman expressly excluded anyone found "to have been a member of the Nazi party and more than a nominal participant in its activities, or an active supporter of Naziism or militarism."

The War Department's Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency (JIOA) conducted background investigations of the scientists. In February 1947, JIOA Director Bosquet Wev submitted the first set of scientists' dossiers to the State and Justice Departments for review.

The Dossiers were damning. Samauel Klaus, the State Departments representative on the JIOA board, claimed that all the scientists in this first batch were "ardent Nazis." Their visa requests were denied.

Wev was furious. He wrote a memo warning that "the best intrests of the United States have been subjugated to the efforts expended in 'beating a dead Nazi horse.'" He also declared that the return of these scientists to Germany, where they could be exploited by America's enemies, presented a "far greater security threat to this country than any former Nazi affiliations which they may have had or even any Nazi sympathies that they may still have."

When the JIOA formed to investigate the backgrounds and form dossiers on the Nazis, the Nazi Intelligence leader Reinhard Gehlen met with the CIA director Allen Dulles. Dulles and Gehlen hit it off immediatly. Gehlen was a master spy for the Nazis and had infilitrated Russia with his vast Nazi Intelligence network. Dulles promised Gehlen that his Intelligence unit was safe in the CIA.

The Dulles-Bush connection goes way back. Dulles and Prescott Bush worked together, along with Averell Harriman. So, today, it's not a stretch to see which families and organizations seem to have benefited the most in post-war America. Can you say "Military-Industrial Complex?"

Nazis and Bush family history:

Government investigated Bush family's financing of Hitler

By Carla Binion
December 21, 2000

This article on Nazis in the Republican party was originally published in Online Journal on 1/28/00. However, the following includes additional information regarding George H. W. Bush's father, Prescott, and his maternal grandfather, George Herbert (Bert) Walker, and the fact that the U. S. government investigated their financing of Adolf Hitler.

One book referenced here, Christopher Simpson's "Blowback," was praised by journalist Seymour Hersh as "the ultimate book about the worst kind of cold war thinking." Nora Levin, Director, Holocaust Archive, Gratz College, said "The full story of this country's shameful, cynical collaboration with Nazi criminals has not been told until now with the publication of Simpson's book." Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman said, 'Blowback' is a must read for anyone who wants to understand postwar policy on Nazi war criminals and the cold war."

In another Simpson book, "The Splendid Blonde Beast," the author wrote about George H. W. Bush's father, Prescott, and his maternal grandfather, George Herbert Walker. Both Bert Walker and Prescott Bush were powerful financial supporters of Adolf Hitler.

Walker was president of Union Banking Corporation, a firm that traded with Germany and helped German industrialists consolidate Hitler's political power. Simpson says Union Banking became a Nazi money-laundering machine.

Walker helped take over North American operations of Hamburg-Amerika Line, a shipping line and cover for I. G. Farben's Nazi espionage unit in the U. S. Hamburg-Amerika smuggled in German agents, and brought in money for bribing American politicians to support Hitler. A 1934 congressional investigation showed Hamburg-Amerika subsidized Nazi propaganda efforts in the U. S.

Now whats the problem with using some ex-NAZIs in the fight against the commies? After all, the Soviets and the Red Chinese dont play fair and would stab us in the back in a minute.

Well, it turns out that the Gehlen Org wasnt all it was cracked up to be. In fact, the Soviets had infiltrated it with their own spies. So, when the US forgave all the war criminals and let them into the country to spy on the commies, they also brought in a bunch of Soviet spies. No wonder James Jesus Angleton worried so much about moles in the CIA.

Intelligence / Agencies / Counterintelligence

Trento, Joseph J. The Secret History of the CIA. Roseville CA: Prima Publishing (Forum), 2001. 542 pages.

Joseph Trento has been an investigative reporter on the national security beat since 1968. He had some scoops in the 1970s, and kept at it through the 1980s and 1990s by cultivating insiders such as James Angleton, William Corson, and Robert Crowley. Through them he managed to interview dozens of other retired spooks. Now he is president of the Public Education Center in Washington DC.
This book covers roughly three intermingled topics. The first is the CIA's early years at the Berlin base, where high-flying corruption and Soviet penetration was rampant, and even seemed to help one's CIA career. William Harvey was a key player here. The second involves the migration of some of these players to Vietnam, and also to Chile. The primary source on Chile is Edward Korry, whose story is told here in some detail. The third aspect of this book is the mole wars, where Angleton plays a major role. Trento makes a strong case that Igor Orlov and George Weisz deserve top billing as moles, but is less convincing when he describes Angleton's theories about Oswald. In the end, the point of the book -- that the Soviets consistently ran circles around a corrupted and incompetent CIA -- is rock solid. It wasn't our self-serving Keystone Cops who won the Cold War; it was simply that our arms race outlasted the Soviet economy.

Of course, not all American presidents since World War II have been touched by these super-duper-supermen the same way. Eisenhower was the one who actually warned us about the Military-Industrial Complex and John F. Kennedy actually tried to do something about them -- in addition to his work enlightening the masses through public education, the arts and good government. We all know how that story ended

Gen. Charles Willoughby

The Nazi Connection to the John F. Kennedy Assassination

by Mae Brussell (from The Rebel, November 22, 1983)

1940-1945: The Nazi Connection to Dallas:General Reinhard Gehlen

"Sir" Charles Willoughby -- a Franco-German-American

He was a bull of a man who spoke with a German accent, wore a custom-tailored general's uniform and affected a monocle. A fellow officer in the U.S. army under his true name of Adolph Charles Weidenbach, born in Heidelberg, March 8, 1892. But by the time he became Douglas MacArthur's chief of intelligence for the war in the Pacific, he was Major General Charles A. Willoughby. Behind his back he was derisively tagged "Sir Charles."

For a man of such Teutonic traits it was odd that Willoughby preferred his fascism with a Spanish accent. But this was an accident of geography. While serving as a military attache in Ecuador, he had received a decoration from Mussolini's government -- the Order of Saints Maurizio and Lazzaro. After delivering an impassioned paean to Spanish dictator Generalissimo Francisco Franco at a lunch in Madrid, he was toasted by the secretary general of the Falangist Party, "I am happy to know a fellow Falangist and reactionary.

MacArthur's pre-war headquarters were in the Philippines, whose commerce was dominated by resident Spaniards. The Daddy Warbucks of this crowd was Andres Soriano, who owned an early-day conglomerate of airlines, mines, breweries ("Of course!") and American distributorships. During the Spanish Civil War Soriano was one of Franco's principal money-bags. When the Rising Sun flag was raised over the Philippines Soriano fled to Washington to become finance minister of the government-in-exile. But there was such a fuss over his fascist reputation that he flew off to Australia to become a colonel on MacArthurs staff.

Willoughby accompanied the Supreme Commander to Tokyo for the occupation of Japan. His preferences remained the same; when military police shook down his hotel looking for a fugitive, they found Willoughby at dinner with the stranded Italian fascist ambassador to Japan and members of his staff. He became a heavy-handed censor, suppressing unfavorable news to the States. He delighted in falsely labeling correspondents who defied him as "Communists," a tactic Senator McCarthy would adopt with enthusiasm. But the general's priority project was a dressed-up history of the Pacific War in which MacArthur would be the towering hero. Willoughby brought in Japanese military brass for a view from the enemy side, a move that may have had an ulterior motive. The possibility existed that Willoughby was down-playing Japanese war crimes so that the perpetrators could be protected for use against the Soviets later. This was happening in Germany where the top nazis were writing the history of Malmedy. The tight security in which Willoughby wrapped the project only adds to this impression. One woman had a passkey, the wife of Dr. Mitsutaro Araki, a former exchange lecturer in Germany, who was closely tied in with high nazis in Tokyo and the Tojo clique.

Willoughby harbored another secret that only came to light last year. During the war, the Japanese conducted germ warfare experiments with human beings as guinea pigs (at least 3,000 died, including an undetermined number of captured U.S. military). The Pentagon decided that the biological research might prove handy against the Russians, and the Japanese responsible for the experiments were granted immunity from prosecution in return for their laboratory records. On December 12, 1947 the Pentagon acknowledged the "wholehearted cooperation" of Willoughby in arranging the examination of the "human pathological material which had been transferred to Japan from the biological warfare installations."

As his final public gesture to Franco, Willoughby lobbied the U.S. Congress in August, 1952 to authorize $100 million for the anti-Communist dictator's needs. Then he settled down in the U.S. to do battle with the domestic enemy. As Sir Charles and his right-wing allies saw it, Marxism wasn't the real enemy, the Liberals were.

So, whats all this ancient history have to do with me, today?

Well, these same NAZIs are the ones whove helped make America into the Fourth Reich.

Dont believe me?

Ask yourself: What are we doing in Iraq? and youll see what I mean and how we got there.

5. Thanks, reprehensor. Sorry, don't know Mr. Emory's stuff.
DUer bobthedrummer may've mentioned him, now that I think about it.

Have you heard about Steve Kangas?

He's pegged these turds.

The Origins of the Overclass

b\y Steve Kangas

The wealthy have always used many methods to accumulate wealth, but it was not until the mid-1970s that these methods coalesced into a superbly organized, cohesive and efficient machine. After 1975, it became greater than the sum of its parts, a smooth flowing organization of advocacy groups, lobbyists, think tanks, conservative foundations, and PR firms that hurtled the richest 1 percent into the stratosphere.

The origins of this machine, interestingly enough, can be traced back to the CIA. This is not to say the machine is a formal CIA operation, complete with code name and signed documents. (Although such evidence may yet surface and previously unthinkable domestic operations such as MK-ULTRA, CHAOS and MOCKINGBIRD show this to be a distinct possibility.) But what we do know already indicts the CIA strongly enough. Its principle creators were Irving Kristol, Paul Weyrich, William Simon, Richard Mellon Scaife, Frank Shakespeare, William F. Buckley, Jr., the Rockefeller family, and more. Almost all the machine's creators had CIA backgrounds.

During the 1970s, these men would take the propaganda and operational techniques they had learned in the Cold War and apply them to the Class War. Therefore it is no surprise that the American version of the machine bears an uncanny resemblance to the foreign versions designed to fight communism. The CIA's expert and comprehensive organization of the business class would succeed beyond their wildest dreams. In 1975, the richest 1 percent owned 22 percent of Americas wealth. By 1992, they would nearly double that, to 42 percent the highest level of inequality in the 20th century.

How did this alliance start? The CIA has always recruited the nations elite: millionaire businessmen, Wall Street brokers, members of the national news media, and Ivy League scholars. During World War II, General "Wild Bill" Donovan became chief of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA. Donovan recruited so exclusively from the nations rich and powerful that members eventually came to joke that "OSS" stood for "Oh, so social!"

Another early elite was Allen Dulles, who served as Director of the CIA from 1953 to 1961. Dulles was a senior partner at the Wall Street firm of Sullivan and Cromwell, which represented the Rockefeller empire and other mammoth trusts, corporations and cartels. He was also a board member of the J. Henry Schroeder Bank, with offices in Wall Street, London, Zurich and Hamburg. His financial interests across the world would become a conflict of interest when he became head of the CIA. Like Donavan, he would recruit exclusively from societys elite.

I'm going to look into Dave's work. A quick GOOGLE told me he's an anti-fascist researcher. Thanks to you, Friend, I've found a new friend.

12. be sure to read
"Martin Bormann, Nazi in Exile" by Paul Manning which Dave has graciously made available online. IMHO it far surpasses Ladislas Farago & William Stephenson's quests for Bormann.

Dave Emory did a two part interview with Paul Manning's son (FTR-125) which is a fascinating insight into the crushing of free speech and the bravery one needs when hunting Nazi's past and present.

His audio archives are available here btw /

He's also one of the only people from any politial persuasion to actively promote (let alone review) Josteph Trento's important new book. He does suffer somewhat from a need to find Nazi's behind every corner, and he can get rather repetitive over time, but they're minor fault considering the stories & books he's brought to my attention -- well worth an hour of my week.

You've actually read the Stephenson book?

I was wondering if it was worth investing in.

Everytime I go into a used bookstore I look for Nazi in Exile. It's never there.

I did download the PDF, tho.

25. I spent many years listening to Dave Emory
And to be honest, it's all like a fuzzy dream. Look at this post, and you can see that there's no room for brevity. It's drugery. Long historical geneological kinds of stuff.

But Gehlen is a name that has been a common thread throughout Emory's talks.

I used to listen to him casually. People brushed him off as a conspiry theorist. Now I see just how seriously true it all was.

8. Hermes-Press rocks. So does Carl Oglesby.
Like all talented gangsters, there's always a "Plan B."

German Spies of World War II

Intentionally or not, Gehlen undermined the very "national security" that had justified his recruitment in the first place.

Which brings us to some interesting, yet unsubstantiated, speculation. Some researchers proposed that Hitler's haughty spy master had a plan B, an ulterior motive beyond the personal survival instinct and rabid anticommunism. Conspiracy researcher Carl Oglesby contends that Gehlen's postwar organization operated as a cover for the Odessa, an international underground set up by deputy fuhrer Martin Bormann to preserve the defeated Nazi Reich. Oglesby calls Gehlen's group "by far the most audacious, most critical, and most essential part of the entire Odessa undertaking." Military intelligence historian (and espionage veteran) Colonel William Corson seconds this notion.

The Gehlen Org, Oglesby argues, provided a have for fleeing Odessa members by putting them on the American intelligence payroll - a brilliant gambit. More than a few of Gehlen's operatives were indeed Odessa members.

Oglesby's evidence is curious, if not entirely convincing. A declassified CIA document from the 1970s reports that while he was in a U.S. Army VIP prison camp in Wiesbaden, "Gehlen sought and received approval" for his deal with the Americans from Hitler's appointed successor, Admiral Karl Doenitz. "The German chain of command was still in effect," Oglesby concludes, "and it approved of what Gehlen was doing with the Americans."

Whether or not the Gehlen Org was a diversion to preserve an underground Nazi empire is an open question. But Gehlen did manage to attain his goal of splitting away from U.S. intelligence to serve the fledgling West German government. Gehlen's Org continues to live on, as Germany's BND intelligence service.

The Org's legacy also survives in America. The forty-year defense buildup that helped transform America into the world's largest debtor nation, as well as the ongoing exploits of Gehlen's godchild, the CIA, in the expedient realms of political assassination, propaganda, and covert operations certainly owe a debt to Hitler's master spy, and the men who signed him up to "our side."

So that's how "liberal" came to be a bad word. How....Nitzschean.

10. Similar M.O. "I've got what you need."
It all operates in the interest of what many call the Bush Family Evil Empire -- the BFEE -- the Secret Government. Carl Oglesby describes them thusly...

The Secret State

Carl Oglesby
(Speech to the Massachusetts Libertarian Party on the 200th Birthday of the Bill of Rights, December 19, 1991.)

The occasion of the two-hundredth anniversary of the Bill of Rights reminds us to be very worried about the growth since World War Il of a national-security oligarchy, a secret and invisible state within the public state.

The national-security state has come upon us not all at once but bit by bit over a span. of several decades. It is useful to review the episodesthe ones that are now known to usthrough which the current situation evolved.

1. 1945: The Gehlen Deal

Wild Bill Donovan of the wartime Office of Strategic Services, the OSS, proposed to President Roosevelt before the war was over that the United States should setup a permanent civilian intelligence agency, but military foes of Donovan leaked his plan to a conservative journalist, Walter Trohan, who exposed the idea in the Chicago Tribune and denounced it as an" American Gestapo."<1>

But only a few weeks after this. after Roosevelt's death and the inauguration of Harry Truman. in the utmost secrecy, the Army was taking its own much more dangerous steps toward a quite literal American Gestapo.

Days after the Nazi surrender in May 1945, a US Army command center in southern Germany was approached by Nazi Brigadier General Reinhard Gehlen. Gehlen was the chief of the Nazi intelligence apparatus known as the FHO, Foreign Armies East. The FHO ran spy operations throughout East Europe and the Soviet Union during the war, and it remained intact during the late-war period when the rest of the Wehrmacht was crumbling. In fact, the FHO was the one part of the Nazi war machine that continued to recruit new members right through the end of the war. SS men at risk of war crimes charges in particular were told to join with Gehlen, go to ground, and await further orders.

20. A Friend Of Mine Believes This Country
is in the process of deconstructing, not the drowning in a bathtub type, but a crumbling from within. The reason for this is because we are not, and haven't been for a long time, the country we thought we were. The effects of all the lies, deceits and evil, soulless manipulation of people's lives and the destiny of the country has produced a corrosive effect that is destroying the structure. The theory goes on to state that it we, the people, who are going to have to decide how and what we want to re-build, how we want to live and how we want to be governed.

After reading the link above it becomes even clearer that this country has indeed lost it's way, and the influence that brought us here will have to go first. The BFEE has been a cancer not only upon several presidencies but a blight upon this country and the world.

Your friend describes the current situation. For me, the illness began on November 22, 1963 in Dallas. I don't know who killed President John F. Kennedy, but I do know who's benefited: the right-wing scum who put property ahead of people.

Please be so kind as to thank your friend for giving a damn. People aware of the BFEE is the first step in ridding the country of their Department of Evil.

The Misuses of History

Since the attacks of 11 September 2001, the American public has endured an astounding avalanche of official lies, half truths, pseudo-events <1> and sheer balderdash that will surely enter the Guinness Book of Records. Among the most persistent and infuriating lies of government, to those who have imbibed their knowledge of the past from the crystalline springs of Gibbon and von Ranke, is the misleading historical analogy. Its purpose is twofold: to relativize whatever current disaster the governing class has waltzed the hapless populace into; and to kill any usable past. The technique also has the added benefit of making government placemen sound learned - at least in the estimation of an audience which gains its knowledge of the world through Fox News and other State media.

Iraq is a fruitful field for detecting such historical fables. It was during the summer of 2003, as it first became evident that the natives of Mesopotamia were less than entirely enthusiastic about their liberation, that the American apparat swung into action with historical comparisons between Iraq and the occupation of Germany.

Then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice took to the hustings to tell the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in her characteristic school-marmish fashion, that occupied Iraq was no more of a problem than occupied Nazi Germany - and look what a rousing success that turned out to be: "There is an understandable tendency to look back on America's experience in postwar Germany and see only the successes, but as some of you here today surely remember, the road we traveled was very difficult. 1945 through 1947 was an especially challenging period. Germany was not immediately stable or prosperous. SS officers-called 'werewolves'-engaged in sabotage and attacked both coalition forces and those locals cooperating with them-much like today's Baathist and Fedayeen remnants." <2>

Whereupon the irrepressible Secretary Rumsfeld immediately chimed in with his own historical tour d'horizon: "One group of those dead-enders was known as 'werewolves.' They and other Nazi regime remnants targeted Allied soldiers, and they targeted Germans who cooperated with the Allied forces. Mayors were assassinated including the American-appointed mayor of Aachen, the first major German city to be liberated. Children as young as 10 were used as snipers, radio broadcasts, and leaflets warned Germans not to collaborate with the Allies. They plotted sabotage of factories, power plants, rail lines. They blew up police stations and government buildings, and they destroyed stocks of art and antiques that were stored by the Berlin Museum. Does this sound familiar?" <3>

Frankfurt Was Not Fallujah

One wonders which community college-educated speech writer activated the larynxes of our senior government officials. As history, this was bunk, although it sounded plausible to the half-educated mind. American forces took Aachen in October 1944 - well before the largest battle ever fought by the U.S. Army, the Battle of the Bulge, and fully six months before the 8 May 1945 "end of major conflict" in the European Theater. The assassination of Aachen's mayor and the capers of the Werewolves were distinctly small beer, because they occurred in the midst of the bloodiest land battles in world history. The Werewolves, Rumsfeld's proto-Baathists, only existed as a viable force as an adjunct to a still-functioning German government holding territory between the Rhine and the Oder-Neisse; a government that could put, even at that late date, 8 million men into the field. As explained in an earlier report, 4th Generation Warfare operations were at the time distinctly subsidiary to conventional military campaigns. <4>

the predictability of all this would be laughable. They've been foisting their gluttonous, incompetent scions on us practically since time began, You'd think we the people would get a clue and put an end to it once and for all.

I don't know who killed Kennedy, though I agree he was our last shinning hope. I've read all the theories and you could make a case for a number of people to have been involved. The one thing that does stand out for me, given his history and inclinations, is that poppy was in Dallas that day, even though he can't remember what he was doing.

This FBI memo dated the day of the assassination shows "George H.W. Bush, President of Zapata Off-shore Drilling Company" called the FBI minutes after President Kennedy's murder to rat out some guy named James Parrot. It also states Bush was heading for Dallas.

It's odd that decades later, Barbara Bush would confirm Poppy's presence at the scene of the crime of the century. Babs told Don Imus that she and little Georgie were in Dallas to see "the parade" that awful day, November 22, 1963.

And people wonder why the CIA building is named after Poppy, a guy who had the DCI job for about a year.

14. Hey, RiF! Sounds like a plan...
...I mean conspiracy. And speaking of which, there are more than a few NAZIs that came to play in that election of 1980 and selection 2000 and, gee, 9-11...

"Muslim Brotherhood, Nazis and Al Qaeda"

Speech by John Loftus, former U.S. Deputy Attorney General

I learned that many of the Nazis that I had been assigned to prosecute were on the CIA payroll, but the CIA didn't know they were Nazis because the British Intelligence Service had lied to them. What the British Intelligence Service didn't know was that their liar was Kim Philby, the Soviet communist double agent -- a little scandal of the Cold War. But our State Department swept it all under the rug and allowed the Nazis to stay in America until I was stupid enough to go public with it.

What do you do when you want to go public with a story like this one? You call up 60 Minutes. We had a great time. Mike Wallace gave me 30 minutes on his show. For a long time, it was the longest segment that 60 minutes ever did. When the episode about Nazis in America went on the air back in 1982, it caused a minor national uproar. Congress demanded hearings, Mike Wallace got the Emmy award, and my family got the death threats. It was a great trip.

Let me give you an example. This year a friend of mine from the CIA, named Bob Baer wrote a very good book about Saudi Arabia and terrorism, it's called Sleeping with the Devil. I read the book and I got about a third of the way through and I stopped. Bob was writing how when he worked for the CIA how bad the files were.

He said, for example, the files for the Muslim Brotherhood were almost nothing. There were just a few newspaper clippings. I called Bob up and said, Bob, that's wrong. The CIA has enormous files on the Muslim Brotherhood, volumes of them. I know because I read them a quarter of a century ago. He said, What do you mean?

Here's how you can find all of the missing secrets about the Muslim Brotherhood -- and you can do this too. I said, Bob, go to your computer and type in two words into the search part. Type the word Vanna, V-a-n-n-a. He said, Yeah. Type in Nazi. Bob typed the two words in, and out came 30 to 40 articles from around the world. He read them and called me back and said, Oh my God, what have we done?

What I'm doing today is doing what I'm doing now: I'm educating a new generation in the CIA that the Muslim Brotherhood was a fascist organization that was hired by Western Intelligence that evolved over time into what we today know as al Qaeda.

I've got to reprimer the Jeep, but when I come back I'll be hauling wood for the fire...

15. Thanks, WiseButAngrySara! What Huxley said... part of why we need to know this stuff:

"There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution."

-- Aldous Huxley's lecture to The California Medical School in San Francisco in 1961

What Aristotle said...

"You don't make friends; you recognize them."

27. The quote by Huxley is frightening...but so are enemies (BFEE). I love
the quote by Aristotle. Is it from his Nicomacean Ethics? If so, I've read it before, but the quote really hit me this evening. It seems true in my personal experience, and is reminiscent of Plato's (Socrates) remark in The Republic about how even puppies recognize friends and enemies! Until this current administration, I had never thought about an enemy being one of our own, and sadly, its POTUS and SCOTUS and the cowards who support their evil, on both sides of the political aisle and in the press/media.

I have a personal favor (perhaps I should p.m. this)...I can't do a search yet. Could you send me a list of all (or some if you want to be selective) of your DU threads? I want to read them at my leisure, and also send some to my brother and other family members and friends. I want Mike (bro) to learn about PNAC. He's more informed on Iran/Contra than I am, and I know that's one of your areas of expertise, but I imagine you've written on PNAC also. I would so appreciate it! He would recognize you as a friend also...Thanks!

21. Harriman did a lot of good. Harriman did a lot of bad. Take Vietnam...
... which is where JFK wanted to leave and LBJ wanted to stay. Harriman, the newly revealed record shows, was in LBJ's corner.

From The Secret History of the CIA by Joseph Trento:

Who changed the coup into the murder of Diem, Nhu and a Catholic priest accompanying them? To this day, nothing has been found in government archives tying the killings to either John or Robert Kennedy. So how did the tools and talents developed by Bill Harvey for ZR/RIFLE and Operation MONGOOSE get exported to Vietnam? Kennedy immediately ordered (William R.) Corson to find out what had happened and who was responsible. The answer he came up with: On instructions from Averell Harriman. The orders that ended in the deaths of Diem and his brother originated with Harriman and were carried out by Henry Cabot Lodges own military assistant.

Having served as ambassador to Moscow and governor of New York, W. Averell Harriman was in the middle of a long public career. In 1960, President-elect Kennedy appointed him ambassador-at-large, to operate with the full confidence of the president and an intimate knowledge of all aspects of United States policy. By 1963, according to Corson, Harriman was running Vietnam without consulting the president or the attorney general.

The president had begun to suspect that not everyone on his national security team was loyal. As Corson put it, Kenny ODonnell (JFKs appointments secretary) was convinced that McGeorge Bundy, the national security advisor, was taking orders from Ambassador Averell Harriman and not the president. He was especially worried about Michael Forrestal, a young man on the White House staff who handled liaison on Vietnam with Harriman.

At the heart of the murders was the sudden and strange recall of Sagon Station Chief Jocko Richardson and his replacement by a no-name team barely known to history. The key member was a Special Operations Army officer, John Michael Dunn, who took his orders, not from the normal CIA hierarchy but from Harriman and Forrestal.

According to Corson, John Michael Dunn was known to be in touch with the coup plotters, although Dunns role has never been made public. Corson believes that Richardson was removed so that Dunn, assigned to Ambassador Lodtge for special operations, could act without hindrance.

The Secret History of the CIA. Joseph Trento. 2001, Prima Publishing. pp. 334-335.

Now that's just part of it. The other thing we've recently discovered is that Harriman sat on Ambassador John Kenneth Galbraith's peaceful withdrawal proposal.

Papers reveal JFK efforts on Vietnam

By Bryan Bender
Boston Globe Staff
June 6, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Newly uncovered documents from both American and Polish archives show that President John F. Kennedy and the Soviet Union secretly sought ways to find a diplomatic settlement to the war in Vietnam, starting three years before the United States sent combat troops.

Kennedy, relying on his ambassador to India, John Kenneth Galbraith, planned to reach out to the North Vietnamese in April 1962 through a senior Indian diplomat, according to a secret State Department cable that was never dispatched.

A draft cable dated the same day instructed Galbraith to use Desai as a ''channel discreetly communicating to responsible leaders North Vietnamese regime . . . the president's position as he indicated it."

But a week later, Harriman met with Kennedy and apparently persuaded him to delay, according to other documents, and the overture was never revived.

At the urging of Nehru, Galbraith met with the Polish foreign minister, Adam Rapacki, in New Delhi on Jan. 21, 1963, where Galbraith expressed Kennedy's likely interest in a Polish proposal for a cease-fire and new elections in South Vietnam. There is no evidence of further discussions between the two diplomats. Rapacki returned to Warsaw a day later. Galbraith wrote in his memoirs that it was not followed up.

Yeah. The BFEE is bi-partisan. Remember Clark Clifford?

11. Somebody told me once that G Gordon Liddy worshiped Nazis

The ex-FBI White House Plumber and Watergate Break-in Convict once bragged about the black-bag jobs he enjoyed doing for "Mr. Hoover," breaking into peoples' offices and homes, threatening and blackmailing lawmakers and judges. All for his conservative cause and Satanic overlords of the Reich. Liddy also bragged of enjoying an intellectual or kultural side, an example of which follows:

Nazi Liddy Wanted to Run ATF, Be Drug Czar

From Edward J. Epsteins Agency of Fear

In June, 1971, G. Gordon Liddy, a man possessed with a purpose, ascended to the inner circle of power at the White House. His attempt to take over the thousand-man Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms enforcement unit of the Treasury Department on behalf of the White House group had been successfully resisted by the Treasury Department earlier that year, and his immediate superior, Eugene Rossides, had moved to ease him out of that department entirely. But Liddy foresaw that the heroin issue could be the very instrument that the White House group needed to consolidate power within the bureaucracy, and thereby extend its police power. To demonstrate how a few determined men could manipulate the emotions of an entire nation by invoking a few highly visual symbols of fear, Liddy invited his new cohorts in the White House to a series of propaganda films being shown in the National Archives that June. The "Inner circle" that Liddy persuaded to view these films included John Ehrlichman, whose Domestic Council 'had assumed by now undisputed control over all domestic issues; Egil Krogh; Donald Santarelli, who was then slated to head the billion-dollar Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA), which disbursed money to local police departments; Robert Mardian, who headed the internal-security division of the Department of Justice; and a number of Krogh's young assistants on the Domestic Council. The cycle of films was climaxed on June 13 by the showing of Triumph of the Will, a Nazi propaganda film made under the auspices of Hitler and Goering which graphically depicted the way a "national will" could be inculcated into the masses through the agency of controlled fear and frenzied outrage.

Krogh later recalled that he had "considerable apprehension" about hiring Gordon Liddy to work for the White House on the drug program. Rossides had warned him that Liddy was both disloyal and potentially dangerous." Indeed, these were the reasons Rossides tendered for dismissing Liddy from the Treasury Department. Disloyalty to a bureaucracy might mean loyalty to the president, Krogh reasoned. Moreover, given Rossides's record of bureaucratic infighting, Krogh interpreted the potential danger of Liddy as simply his will to act decisively and cut through red tape. Krogh later came to the realization that Liddy had "simply a higher energy level than anyone else" and that therefore he could be extremely persuasive in moving others to action. And as Krogh gradually became persuaded that the drug issue was the best available lever for moving and reorganizing entrenched bureaucracies in the government, Liddy, with his ideas for mobilizing popular support on the drug issue, seemed an "Invaluable addition" to his staff on the Domestic Council.

13. I love it in his biography "Will"
when he discloses that he wanted to call the plumbers "ODESSA" (Organization Directed to Eliminate the Subversion of the Secrets of the Administration) after the nazi evacuation organization.

Actually "Will" is so full of bizarre Nazi fantasies it's hilarious. His early attraction to his wife as being a good "breeder" with excellent genes, to his hours as a child spent listening to Hitler speak on the wireless.

22. Shield your eyes.
Then, please scroll down.

A super-duper superman.

An article I remember described how Liddy detailed all the ideal characteristics his mate would enjoy -- from a mind fit for calculus to a body capable of carrying his offspring. He's such a card.

Remember what Liddy told radio listeners to do should the Feds come knock-knock-knocking on their back door?

Liddy's Lethal Advice

Red Meat for Republican Voters?

By Richard Bottoms

The outrage over the remarks by syndicated radio talkshow host G. Gordon Liddy regarding the best way to kill BATF agents ("head shots" and the rest) overlooks an important point of the timing of those remarks--in the late summer and fall of 1994. In an election year where Republicans smelled political blood in the water, it was vital to encourage a massive voter turnout for their side. Tapping in to rising voter anger with government would be a key to victory, and few things made some in the public angrier than the debacle at Waco.

Liddy: Arm yourself. Get instructed in how to shoot straight.

Caller: I've got weapons.

Liddy: Absolutely. And don't give 'em up, and don't register either.

Caller: No way. And I'm aiming between the eyes.

Liddy: There you go. That way their flak jackets won't protect them.

Such a fine man for law enforcement, as detailed in his work for J Edgar Hoover. No wonder Liddy dreamed of heading the ATF: He was heading for higher ground at DEA. That's where the REAL money is.

Agency of Fear

Opiates and Political Power in America

By Edward Jay Epstein

Chapter 25 - The Secret of Room 16

On June 13, 1971, the meticulously planned scenario promulgating a national emergency over the putative heroin epidemic was rudely interrupted by the New York Times's publishing an archive of national defense documents which became known as the Pentagon Papers. In-the weeks that followed, the controversy over the publication of these classified documents dominated the covers of the national newsmagazines and the choice time on network television. Meanwhile, the disclosures from the White House about the drug menace, the recalling of ambassadors from France, Turkey, and other countries, the cabinet-level meetings to deal with narcotics, the agreement to suppress opium, -production in Turkey, and other highlights of the heroin crusade were relegated to the back pages of newspapers and newsmagazines and given only minor coverage on television. While the timetable for creating a White House-controlled office with unprecedented investigative powers moved slowly ahead under the direction of G. Gordon Liddy and Egil Krogh, the president demanded immediate action to remedy the massive leaking ofthe Pentagon Papers. When Krogh returned from an inspection of the drug problem in Vietnam in late June, he was summoned to the Western White House, at San Clemente, California, and told by Ehrlichman that the president wanted him to work on a special project. The president's assistant for domestic affairs explained more fully the next day that this project involved investigating the background of Daniel Ellsberg, a former Rand Corporation employee who had provided the New York Times with the Pentagon Papers. Ehrlichman stressed that this was a joint undertaking of his Domestic Council and Henry Kissinger's National Security Council, and that Kissinger, then a national security advisor to the president, was supplying a top investigator on his staff named David Young, who along with Krogh would direct this new investigative unit.

Krogh and Young established their Special Investigations Unit, which Young nicknamed "the Plumbers," in room 16 of the Executive Office Building, conveniently located on the ground floor near the narrow underground passageway leading directly to the White House. Since Krogh had little experience in spy work, he brought his more experienced assistant on the Domestic Council, Gordon Liddy, into room 16 as his deputy. Liddy, then working to develop a more permanent investigative capacity in the White House under the cover of a narcotics office, seemed to Krogh "a natural choice" for the Plumbers, who would engage in "all sorts of national-security work." Since the White House assumed that the FBI would not cooperate fully in investigating what was then thought to be a possible conspiracy of "establishment Democrats" involved with Ellsberg in the distribution of the Pentagon Papers, the Plumbers assumed that they would need the special services of the Central Intelligence Agency. The deputy director of the CIA, General Robert Cushman, whom Krogh had worked with in developing international narcotics programs, agreed to provide Krogh with financing for "narcotics work," but held that the CIA could not get involved in a domestic investigation of this sort. Krogh did manage, however, to obtain the services of E. Howard Hunt, a former CIA official who reportedly had helped Allen Dulles. the most illustrious of the CIA directors, to write his book The Craft of Intelligence, and who officially had been detached from the CIA several months before going to work for Robert R. Mullen and Company, a public-relations firm at times serving as a front for CIA operatives. At the time, Hunt seemed to Krogh to be a logical candidate for the Plumbers and a possible member of the more permanent organization then being planned: Hunt had been in the CIA more than twenty years and had specialized in the distribution of "black," or misleading, information. He also had headed the CIA station in Uruguay and was involved at a high level with the successful CIA coup d'etat in Guatemala and the unsuccessful Bay of Pigs invasion in Cuba, he therefore could be expected to have wide-ranging contacts with other CIA agents, executives, and independent contractors for various services. Furthermore, he came with the strong recommendation of Charles Colson, the special counsel to the president who specialized in dealing with political "enemies." Hunt saw the possibility of using black information in, the Ellsberg case, to denigrate as traitors a whole class of Democratic opponents to the war in Vietnam. While retaining his $25,000-a-year public-relations job at Mullen and Company, and still receiving his $24,000-a-year CIA pension, Hunt was put on the White House payroll as a $130-a-day consultant for special projects.

By the end of July, Hunt proposed a covert psychological assessment/evaluation on Ellsberg which would "destroy his public image and credibility," according to a memorandum which surfaced in the Senate investigation of Watergate. This required special assistance from employees, or former employees, of the CIA. Hunt therefore contacted a number of Cuban exiles who had been involved with him in CIA operations against Castro's Cuba, including Manuel Artimes, a former captain in Castro's army whom the CIA had helped defect from Cuba and had used to train Its exile army in Guatemala. Bernard "Macho" Barker, a former CIA infiltrator into the Cuban intelligence apparatus who had been subsequently "exfiltrated" into the United States by the CIA, was also contacted. Hunt explained to Captain Artimes that he had been authorized by the White House to recruit Cuban exiles into "hit teams" which would be used ostensibly to assassinate narcotics dealers. He asked his former comrade in clandestine work to recommend Cubans for these teams. Since Barker had arranged the escape of Artimes from Cuba on the CIA's behalf, he was apparently highly recommended. Hunt already knew Barker from the Bay of Pigs operation, in 1961, and after explaining to him that he was now working for a "higher level structure than either the FBI or CIA,- Hunt asked him to assemble a team of Cuban exiles who were burglars and lock-picks.*

* Hunt also apparently recruited Frank Sturgis, a self-proclaimed soldier of fortune who was arrested with four others in the burglary of the Democratic headquarters in the Watergate complex, for this new office. Sturgis claims that he undertook several missions for Hunt involving tracking narcotics, and he assumed that this was the nucleus of a new supranational police force that would be expanded after Nixon's reelection.

Meanwhile, Liddy wrote the president a long memorandum analyzing the deficiencies of the FBI and argued that because of these flaws in its organization, it could not be counted on by the White House. The president was impressed with this analysis and remarked to Krogh that it was "the most brilliant memorandum he had received in a long time." Liddy also arranged to funnel money from the dairy cooperatives, which were clients of Hunt's public-relations firm, into the Special Investigative Unit, to pay for the break-ins, wiretaps, and other clandestine activities. By mid-August. Liddy had obtained permission from Krogh and Ehrlichrrian for a covert operation in which the Plumbers would -et access to Ellsherg's psychiatric records. which his psychiatrist- Dr. Lewis Fielding, had steadfastly refused to show to the FBI.

Over that Labor Dav weekend Dr. Fieldino was not expected to be in his Beverly Hills office. Thus. Liddy, Hunt. Barker, and the two Cuban exiles he recruited for the mission, Eugenio R. Martinez and Felipe de Diego-both of whom claimed to have taken part in CIA clandestine operations against Cuba-flew to Los Angeles to execute what was known in White House circles as Liddy-Hunt Project Number One. According to the plan worked out by Liddy. Martinez and Diego went to Dr. Fielding's office wearing the uniforms of a local delivery service and left a green suitcase addressed to the psychiatrist, containing Photographic equipment which the CIA had made available to Hunt. The housekeeper accommodatingly placed the suitcase in Dr. Fielding's office. Later that evening, while Liddy drove a rented car around the office building to be in a position to warn the burglars against any police who might be on the scene, Barker, Martinez, and Diego forced open the door of Dr. Fielding's office, opened the green suitcase they had left there that afternoon, and began photographing Dr. Fielding's confidential files. During the entire operation, Hunt watched Dr. Fielding's home and kept in contact with the other conspirators by walkie-talkie radio. There were, however, no interruptions. and the White House unit returned to Washington, D.C. (When the burglary was discovered the following Monday, a narcotics addict, conveniently arrested for the crime, readily "confessed" to it in return for a Suspended sentence: as in other White House crusades, narcotics addicts served as covers for the subterranean activities of White House "investigators.") Liddy-Hunt Project Number One was not a complete success, however, because the records of Ellsberg were not in Dr. Fielding's office and thus could not be photographed. Nevertheless, while Liddy and Krogh worked on plans for a permanent Investigative unit which ostensibly would operate against narcotics traffickers, the Plumbers kept busy in room 16, investigating, among other things, the possible leaking of national security documents to Jack Anderson by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (presumably to undermine Kissinger's detente policies). Finally, in December, 1971, the president ordered Ehrllchman and Krogh to create the permanent White House-controlled Investigative unit envisioned in the option paper drawn up by Liddy. The new unit was to be known as the Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement.

Somewhere I have another source book that tells about the Nazis the US hired at the end of WWII. I will try to find the box in the storage shed. I seem to remember one of the chief "evil-doers" was named Otto "scarface" Scorzani or similar name. He was later involved in overthrowing (I think) Nasser. Must find book for details.

Martin A. Lee helps keep important history alive...

Introduction to The Beast Reawakens

by Martin A. Lee

As rumors of Hitler's death swept through the barracks, Remer was told by his commanding officer to arrest Joseph Goebbels, the top Nazi official in Berlin that day. With pistols drawn, Remer led a twenty-man contingent into the Propaganda Ministry, where Goebbels held sway. At that moment, Remer was probably the single most important military officer in Germany.

Encircled by gun-pointing soldiers, a quick-thinking Goebbels told Remer that the conspiracy had failed: Hitler was still alive. To prove his point, he picked up the phone, called the Wolf's Lair, and handed the receiver to Remer. The tall, strapping young officer breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the Fuehrer's voice. Hitler put Remer in charge of all troops in Berlin and ordered him to crush the putsch. Anyone who resisted was to be shot immediately.

It was a heady assignment for Remer, who immediately took control and instructed his troops to establish roadblocks and patrols. They sealed off the city command center and surrounded the army buildings where some of the coup ringleaders were ensconced. Remer was posted at the entrance of the War Office, when SS Colonel Otto Skorzeny, a fierce Hitler loyalist, arrived on the scene with a band of armed men.

Remer introduced himself to Skorzeny and apprised him of the crisis situation. They agreed that no one, regardless of how high in rank, would be allowed to enter or leave until they finished searching the premises. Skorzeny and his SS squadron encountered a mayhem of murder and suicide inside the building. The can-do colonel quickly put a halt to a wave of executions so that suspects could be tortured into naming others and exposing the extent of the plot before they were sent to the gallows.

With Skorzeny in charge of the War Ministry, it didn't take long before the revolt was smashed and the affairs of the High Command were once again in smooth working order. During the weeks that followed, he helped track down the remaining suspects in one of history's most gruesome manhunts. It was an occasion to settle old scores, as two thousand people, including dozens of high-ranking German of ficers, were killed in a paroxysm of military fratricide. Some of the leading plotters were garroted with piano wire and impaled on meathooks, while Nazi cameramen recorded the victims' death throes so that Hitler could view the film in his personal cinema.

For the colonel's invaluable support during the aftermath of the coup attempt, the Fuehrer gratefully declared: "You, Skorzeny, saved the Third Reich." But it was Remer who stole the limelight. His decisive actions were crucial in restoring order in Berlin. Hitler showed his appreciation by promoting Remer to the rank of major general, a distinction that instantly propelled him into Nazi superstardom. Henceforth, Remer would serve as Hitler's bodyguard.

16. There's a pretty good book on Gehlen
called "The General Was a Spy" written by a couple of journalists from Der Spiegel in around 1972. There are others, but I haven't tracked them down. The CIA has this to say about the books on Gehlen:

"The first to appear, in May 1969, was the East German effort Nicht Laenger Geheim. The other three were published in their German editions within a few weeks of each other during the fall of 1971. Nicht Laenger Geheim and The General Was a Spy are tendentious and inaccurate; the Cookridge book is inaccurate; none of them is worth reading. Gehlen's book The Service has many faults, a lot of which are inherent in such a book, but for any officer assigned to Germany "

A CIA Officer's Calamitous Choices

By Jerry Meldon
May 15, 2003

Both the Army and the CIA considered Gehlen a hot potato. They decided to assign someone the task of weighing the pros and cons of his offer. That someone turned out to be James Critchfield, a highly decorated Army colonel who had led wartime units in Europe and North Africa and had greatly impressed senior CIA personnel.

Critchfield was transferred to the Gehlen compound in Pullach, Germany. After a month or so of deliberation, he concluded that Washington would gain substantial advantage over Moscow by annexing the "Gehlen Org" into the CIA. He recommended that the agency do so and it did.

For the next four years, Critchfield remained Gehlen's CIA handler in Germany. Then, in 1952, West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer chose Gehlen as the initial chief of the BND, West Germany's post-war intelligence agency. Critchfield said Gehlen on his death bed 27 years later thanked Critchfield for his vital assistance in the post-war period.

Today, with the Washington information flow again tightly controlled and short on factual support, Critchfield's choices are a reminder that un-elected officials, operating in secret, still make policy decisions and that their actions can affect the lives of millions in the U.S. and around the world.

This guy also cheats at rugby.

36. Consortium News is great & Robert Parry a real hero
Sadly his books are pretty hard to get hold of in the UK, so I haven't read "Lost History" or the more recent one on Bush although the thrust of much of his research is online. Plus his work on Moon is second to none.

While we're throwing out recommendations, I just read a couple of books worth passing on --

"Who Paid the Piper" by Frances Saunders --- charts the role the CIA played (particularly in Europe) in covertly funding academics, authors & others to keep the population onside through the cold war.

"Power House" by Susan Trento (wife of Joseph Trento who cites this several times in his latest) --- It's a biography of Robert Keith Gray who through the eighties was lobbyist extrodinaire -- he represented China post Tienamen, BCCI, Moon, Robert Maxwell, Papa Doc, Church of Scientology & more. & then as head of Hill & Knowlton he was the man who lobbied on behalf of Kuwait to talk Bush into the gulf war.

24. Thanks, nonconformist! Here's more on Gen. Willoughby...
From our friends at Spartacus

"My Little Fascist"

Adolf Tscheppe-Weidenbach, the son of Baron von Tscheppe-Weidenbach from Baden, Germany, and Emma Willoughby, was born in 1892. After attending the University of Heidelberg, Willoughby moved to the United States in 1910 and became known as Charles Willoughby.

In 1936 he was appointed as an instructor in the Infantry School at Fort Benning. Later he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He developed extreme right-wing views and once delivered a speech to Spanish dictator Generalissimo Francisco Franco at a lunch in Madrid. He also praised Benito Mussolini: "Historical judgment, freed from the emotional haze of the moment, will credit Mussolini with wiping out a memory of defeat by re-establishing the traditional military supremacy of the white race."

Willoughby became logistics officer in the Headquarters of the Philippine Department in Manila where he served under General Douglas MacArthur. Promoted to the rank of major general, Willoughby served as General MacArthur's Chief of Intelligence in the General Headquarters, Southwest Pacific Area (1941-1951).

Willoughby accompanied Douglas MacArthur to Tokyo for the occupation of Japan. When attempts to suppress news to the United States ended in failure, he labeled reporters who defied him, as "Communists". A Cold War warrior he was a strong supporter of the activities of Joseph McCarthy. He also lobbied the US Congress to authorize $100 million for General Franco's government in Spain. MacArthur once described the six-foot, three-inch, Willoughby as "my little Fascist".

A ripe super-duper superturdball of the BFEE, wot?

By the way I do believe you. I have met real Nazi's and not just the pitiful neo-Nazi variety. They wear ties, have excellent connections, never lived in Germany (last 3 or 4 generations) and consistently vote and support the Republican Party. You do need to know where they came from

32. Like the Mafia, they've gone 'legit.'
Thanks, gordianot.

All that loot from their gangster activities has been invested into profitable above-ground businesses and industries. Money from arms sales, money laundering, drug running, gambling, etc is no good sitting in a mattress. So, put it in the bank. Their bank.

One major government agency comes to mind that fits the same business profile. Allen Dulles was one of its early big-wigs. Apparently, so was Richard Nixon, according to some serious people:

The Elkhorn Manifesto

In this section we will explore the Nazi connections of Richard Nixon. To do so we must return to the years just after the end of World War II and, of course, a man named Dulles.

The irony of Nixon's political career ending with a cover-up can only be appreciated with the knowledge that this turbulent career also began with one. Loftus and Aarons state that:

"According to several of our sources among the "old spies," Richard Nixon's political career began in 1945, when he was the navy officer temporarily assigned to review . . . captured Nazi documents." The documents in question revealed the wartime record of Karl Blessing, "former Reichsbank officer and then head of the Nazi oil cartel, Kontinentale Ol A.G. "Konti" was in partnership with Dulles's principal Nazi client, I.G. Farben. Both companies had despicable records regarding their treatment of Jews during the Holocaust. After the war Dulles not only "lost" Blessings Nazi party records, but he helped peddle a false biography in the ever-gullible "New York Times."

The authors' sources reveal that not only did Dulles help cover up his Nazi client's record, he "personally vouched for Blessing as an anti-Nazi in order to protect continued control of German oil interests in the Middle East. Blessing's Konti was the Nazi link to Iben Saud and Aramco . If Blessing went down, he could have taken a lot of people with him, including Allen Dulles. The cover-up worked, except that U.S. Naval Intelligence scrutinized a set of the captured Konti records."

According to the "old spies," Allen Dulles made a deal with the young navy officer who was reviewing the Konti files - Richard Nixon. Nixon would help Dulles bury the Konti files. In return, Allen Dulles "arranged to finance first congressional campaign against Jerry Voorhis." (1)

Dulles's support for Nixon paid off in 1947 when, as the freshman congressman from California, he "saved John Foster Dulles considerable embarrassment by privately pointing out that confidential government files showed that one of Foster's foundation employees, Alger Hiss, was allegedly a Communist. The Dulles brothers took Nixon under their wing and escorted him on a tour of Fascist "freedom fighter" operations in Germany, apparently in anticipation that the young congressman would be useful after Dewey became president." (2)

No wonder Tricky Dick said all those mean things about Jewish people.

33. The Bush-Dulles Connection
Thanks, ewagner. Truly appreciate it.

Would that I could make things clearer, but here's a bit more on how the BFEE comes in...

The Elkhorn Manifesto

The Bush-Dulles Connection

"In 1926 Bert Walker did a favor for his new son-in-law, Prescott Bush. It was the sort of favor families do to help their children make a start in life, but Prescott came to regret it bitterly. Walker made Prescott vice president of W. A. Harriman. The problem was that Walker's specialty was companies that traded with Germany. As Thyssen and the other German industrialists consolidated Hitler's political power in the 1930s, an American financial connection was needed. According to our sources, Union Banking became an out-and-out Nazi money-laundering machine. . . .

"Walker also set up a deal to take over the North American operations of the Hamburg-Amerika Line, a cover for I.G. Farben's Nazi espionage unit in the United States. The shipping line smuggled in German agents, propaganda, and money for bribing American politicians to see things Hitler's way. The holding company was Walker's American Shipping & Commerce, which shared the offices at 39 Broadway with Union Banking. In an elaborate corporate paper trail, Harriman's stock in American Shipping & Commerce was controlled by yet another holding company, the Harriman Fifteen Corporation, run out of Walker's office. The directors of this company were Averill Harriman, Bert Walker, and Prescott Bush. . . .

". . . A 1934 congressional investigation alleged that Walker's "Hamburg-Amerika Line subsidized a wide range of pro-Nazi propaganda efforts both in Germany and the United States." Walker did not know it, but one of his American employees, Dan Harkins, had blown the whistle on the spy apparatus to Congress. Harkins, one of our best sources, became Roosevelt's first double agent . . . kept up the pretense of being an ardent Nazi sympathizer, while reporting to Naval Intelligence on the shipping company's deals with Nazi intelligence.

"Instead of divesting the Nazi money," continue the authors, "Bush hired a lawyer to hide the assets. The lawyer he hired had considerable expertise in such underhanded schemes. It was Allen Dulles. According to Dulles's client list at Sullivan & Cromwell, his first relationship with Brown Brothers, Harriman was on June 18, 1936. In January 1937 Dulles listed his work for the firm as "Disposal of Stan Investing stock."

"As discussed in Chapter 3, Standard Oil of New Jersey had completed a major stock transaction with Dulles's Nazi client, I.G. Farben. By the end of January 1937 Dulles had merged all his cloaking activities into one client account: "Brown Brothers Harriman-Schroeder Rock." Schroeder, of course, was the Nazi bank on whose board Dulles sat. The "Rock" were the Rockefellers of Standard Oil, who were already coming under scrutiny for their Nazi deals. By May 1939 Dulles handled another problem for Brown Brothers, Harriman, their "Securities Custodian Accounts."

Sorry, I had to snip anything. U.S.M.C. Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler absolutely pegged these racketeers.

43. Gehlen's "Angel" Dulles helped re-arm Germany after World War I.
Gee. That's the BFEE business model:

Make war. Penure a populace. Sell them arms. Make war. Penure a populace. Sell them arms. Make war. Penure a populace. Sell them arms. Make war. Penure a populace. Sell them arms. Make war. Penure a populace. Sell them arms. Make war. Penure a populace. Sell them arms. Ad infinitum or until we stop letting them.

Here's some important background on Dulles...

Allen Dulles, the Nazis, and the CIA

Allen Welsh Dulles was born to privilege and a tradition of public service. He was the grandson of one secretary of state and the nephew of another. But by the time he graduated from Princeton in 1914, the robber baron era of American history was coming to an an end, ushered out by the Sherman Anti-Trust Act -- which had been used in 1911 to break up Standard Oil -- and by the institution of the progressive income tax in 1913. The ruling elite was starting to view government less as their own private preserve and more as an unwanted intrusion on their ability to conduct business as usual. That shift of loyalties in itself may accountfor many of the paradoxical aspects of Dulles's career.

Dulles entered the diplomatic service after college and served as a State Department delegate to the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, which brought a formal end to World War I. The Versailles Treaty which came out of this conference included a provision making it illegal to sell arms to Germany. This displeased the powerful DuPont family, and they put pressure on the delegates to allow them to opt out. It was Allen Dulles who finally gave them the assurances they wanted that their transactions with Germany would be "winked at."

Dulles remained a diplomat through the early 1920's, spending part of that time in Berlin. However, he left government service in 1926 for the greener pastures of private business, becoming a Wall Street lawyer with the same firm as his older brother, John Foster Dulles.

By the middle 20's, Germany had started recovering from the effects of the war and its postwar economic collapse, and the great German industrial firms were looking like attractive investment opportunities for wealthy Americans. W.A. Harriman & Co., formed in 1919 by Averell Harriman (son of railroad baron E.H. Hariman) and George Herbert Walker, had led the way in directing American money to German companies and had opened a Berlin branch as early as 1922, when Germany was still in chaos. At that time, Averell Harriman traveled to Europe and made contact with the powerful Thyssen family of steel magnates. It was to be a long-lasting and fateful partnership.

The Thyssens' steel business had suffered greatly from Germany's defeat, and old August Thyssen had decided to guard against future setbacks by creating a system of private banks. He founded one in Berlin and another in the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In the wake of Harriman's trip, a third bank was added to the network, the Union Banking Corporation, founded in New York in 1924 with George Herbert Walker as president. Having their own personal banking system made it easy for the Thyssens to move assets around, launder money, conceal profits, and evade taxes.

When I get a moment, I'll find an article about Dulles and the post-World War I oil business. And to think I wondered where the BFEE could come up with all their hare-brained ideas.

BTW: Thanks for the kick, WiseButAngrySara. You got me thinking.

44. Hey! Didja ever hear of "Otto Skorzezny" and "Die Spinne"?
You're welcome, LibertyorDeath! And thank YOU! The more who know the quicker the end of the Evil department.

Oh yeah: here's some background on Skorzeny and The Spider, courtesy of John Judge:

Good Americans

By John Judge

But the fascist offensive failed at Stalingrad, though the cost had been enormous, with 22 million Soviet citizens dead. At this crucial turning point, they retreated and retrenched, adding to their ranks the embittered revanchists of Eastern Europe, the "cold warriors" and Klansmen of America, and even worse elements. From 1943 forward, plans began to escalate the "cold war" of propaganda and paramilitary spying into the nuclear exchange of World War III.<7> Still, no other goal was so important as the "recapture" of Mother Russia into monarchist and fascist hands. But now they had also added the perspective of the eugenicists and the "scientific" racists of the Third Reich, who saw most of the non-white world as expendable.<8> The term "useless eaters" was applied by the Nazi doctors to their concentration camp victims, and later by former CIA director William Colby to the peoples of Mexico.

Add to this international fascist cabal the following sources of power: Kameradenwerk, Die Spinne and Odessa -- the secret webs of Nazi SS men and mass murderers who escaped justice after the war and found a home in Europe, South America and the obliging United States.<9>

In a recent editorial in the Boston Globe, dated February 14, 1983, we can see the delayed reaction of the established press shortly after the extradition of Klaus Barbie, <38> the Nazi "Butcher of Lyons," from Bolivia to France:

Barbie is only one of many notorious Nazi leaders who were welcomed like prodigal sons into service with Western intelligence agencies after the war. Their unspeakable crimes against humanity were implicitly forgiven and conveniently forgotten. They were paid and protected so that they could return to active duty in the anti-Communist crusade which their fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, had temporarily discredited with his extremism.

Their names compose a rogue's gallery of fascist thuggery. Hitler's master spy, Reinhard Gehlen, was made chief of the Western German intelligence agency (BND) and shared his Nazi intelligence data with his protectors in the CIA. Otto Skorzeny, a Nazi specialist at organizing terror networks in occupied countries, was employed in the U.S. Army's historical division, which served as a way-station for former Nazis who would go on to serve in the Gehlen-CIA intelligence network. Skorzeny used his tacit immunity to shepherd old Nazi comrades out of Europe, working through cover organizations, known as Odessa, Kamaradenwerk, and Die Spinne.

As the years went by, Gehlen, Skorzeny and their network of old-boy collaborators accumulated enormous influence both In Europe and Latin America. Skorzeny shuttled between Franco's Spain and Peron's Argentina, where he served the Argentine dictator as a gray eminence. His goal was to foster the growth of a fascist Fourth Reich centered in Latin America.

He could count on such loyalist operatives as Josef Mengele in Paraguay, on Adolf Eichmann and Hans Ulrich Rudel in Argentina; on Walter Rauff in Chile; and on Klaus Barbie in Bolivia.

Rauff, who is charged with sending 97, 000 Jews to their death, has served as a revered adviser to the fascist dictatorship imposed on Chile by Augusto Pinochet after the overthrow of Salvador Allende, and was instrumental in setting up the infamous Chilean secret police agency known as DINA. Barbie, in Bolivia, organized paramilitary death squads and drug smuggling networks for a succession of military r6gimes.

To grasp the full meaning of Barbie's belated appointment with justice, his career may be seen as an emblem of the unchecked metastasis of fascism. It is particularly mortifying for Americans to be reminded that our government put Barbie on its payroll a few years after he worked for Hitler.

At the very least, Judge should be head of the AP.

49. A big desttination of the Waffen SS after the war
was the French Foreign Legion.

The French even let them forma an all German unit in Vietnam using SS titles and ranks.

Check out the book Devil's Guard to read about it.

Read a few reviews to get the gist of it.

Interestingly, the first review wasn't but could have been written by me. I also bought it about 20 years ago, lent it to a friend and never got it back. It is an incredible story.

47. Wahhabis & NAZIs & Muslim Brotherhood & Al Qaeda...
...working together to create Terror Inc, just one of the tentacles, er, divisions of today's BFEE.

div class="excerpt"]

Muslim Brotherhood

Muslim Brotherhood unites with Hitlers Third Reich

1933 Hitler rises to power

After humiliation of WWI, Germany votes overwhelmingly in favor of Hitlers Fascist regime.

Hitler and Muslim Brotherhood Find Common Ground

Hitlers vision of ethnic cleansing of non-Aryans becomes appealing to the Wahhabis of the Muslim Brotherhood . The West and the Jews is the common enemy. Muslim Brotherhood acquires Hitlers methods of genocide to rid the Arab world of its non-Muslims.

Nazi Parties Appear

Throughout Arab World

Young Egypt. Led by Muslim Brotherhood member Abdul Gamal Nasser (future Egyptian President). Young Egypts political slogan One Folk, One Party, One Leader is a direct translation from German of Nazi slogan.

Social Nationalist Party in Syria . Led by Anton Saada (known as the Syrian Fuhrer)

Husseini calls
Nazi Muslim Troops
Cream of Islam

Amin Al-Husseini spends WWII in Germany at Hitlers side. He establishes Muslim Nazi troops and becomes heavily involved in the genocide of Jews, Gypsies and Serbs. (See Husseini section).

Husseini calls Nazi Muslim troops the Cream of Islam.

Amin al Husseini

Co-Founder and President of

Arab League

Amin Al-Husseini is one of the primary founders and the inspiration of Arab League. Goal is to reinforce Wahhabi vision of Pan-Islamic unity. Founding countries are: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen.

Husseini, still in Germany, is appointed to President in Absentia of Fourth Higher Committee of Arab League.

Of course, there's Grover Norquist's role in funding Terror Inc, a role documented by none other than the neocon turdball Frank Gaffney. Small world, where these bums bump and emit a ray of light...

A Troubling Influence

By Frank J Gaffney Jr.

The Islamist Connection: Abdurahman Alamoudi

The association between Grover Norquist and Islamists appears to have started about five years ago, in 1998, when he became the founding chairman of an organization called the Islamic Free Market Institute, better known as the Islamic Institute.1 The Institutes stated purpose was to cultivate Muslim-Americans and Arab-Americans whose attachment to conservative family values and capitalism made them potential allies for the Republican Party in advance of the 2000 presidential election.

If successful, such an outreach effort could theoretically produce a windfall in votes and campaign contributions.Consequently, it enjoyed the early support of Karl Rove, when he was then-Governor Bushs political advisor, and who knew Norquist from their days in the College Republicans.

Unfortunately, some associated with the Islamic Institute evidently had another agenda. Abdurahman Alamoudi, for one, a self-described supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah,2 the prime-mover behind the American Muslim Council (AMC) and a number of other U.S.-based Islamist-sympathizing/supporting organizations, saw in the Islamic Institute a golden opportunity to hedge his bets.

For years, Alamoudi had cultivated ties with the Democratic Party and its partisans, and contributed significant amounts to its candidates. These donations had given Alamoudi access to the Clinton White House and enabled him and his associates to secure the right to select, train and certify Muslim chaplains for the U.S. military.3

Weird how the traitor Karl Rove keeps turning up at all the Reich times.

46. Hey! Didja hear about Ron Reagan and his fascist past?
No wonder Reagan did all he could to bring back the America of 1860. People were still property.

Our Nazi Allies

By John Judge

Except for the work of Mae Brusell, Alex Constatine, Linda Hunt and a few others, most of those who have written about this importation of Nazis stop somewhere in the 1950s with the story and act as though there was nothing more to report than past bad judgment. The role these people played in our history and the Cold War is incalculabe. Bobby Inman, former CIA Director, admitted to me at a public talk that the Gehlen Organization spies were responsible for the Cold War being started. Thus, Germany pitted its former enemies against each other and militarized them, while it demiltarized and took American funds to build a post-war infrastructure that rivals our own now. Just for a few examples of what I mean:

* Otto von Bolschwing did live in California. The woman who brought him into the United States was Helene von Damm, who later became the appointment secretary to Ronald Reagan. Reagan himself had ties to the Nazis, their spies in the US and other sympathizers from the 30's onward, when he lived with Errol Flynn, who worked for the Nazi Brown network here. von Bolshwing also made the initial investments with von Damm, a Greek fascist who was linked to their coup d'etat, and CIA arms dealer Frank Terpil, into a computer corporation that eventually transformed into "the company" front used by Contragaters Ollie North, Richard Secord and others.

* Otto Skorzeny was a dashing and flamboyant soldier and covert operations expert who rivalled Lansdale for his exploits. He was also a hard core fascist. This account says he "escaped" a camp in 1948. In fact, there was an attempt to try him for war crimes, and he was successfully defended at Nuremberg by an American military lawyer who liked him, and later bragged about how he tricked the court to get Skorzeny acquitted.

Many of the potential convictions of war criminals were foiled by "losing" documents or key witnesses, a regular practice by US Army prosecutor Leon Jaworski. The same Jaworski who spent years at a Texas based CIA-related foundation, who squelched the local investigation of the JFK murder as the official liaison between the Warren Commission and the Texas authorities. (In fact, the Warren Report draft was written by a US Army historian recruited at the end of WWII from the ranks of Hitler's official historians, and transferred to the Commission staff for this task).
Jaworski is later considered "the most trusted man in America" as Nixon's prosector in the Watergate scandal, but his real role was damage control, as well as unseating Nixon. He was even revived in later "scandals" as a trusted figure.

America's real history really is a like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Pieces found in Judge's article even help explain why Ronnie Reagan did all he could to thwart Jim Garrison, who asked for the extradition of a witness from California during Clay Shaw's JFK assassination trial. Pruneface nixed the idea. Gee. Those raised on Reagan probably had no idea of what kind of a traitor the guy really was.

An actor who played with NAZIs.

50. Reinhardt Gehlen did not
start the Cold War.

We were feuding with the Soviets long before the war ended, and didn't need Germany to help us hate the communist Russians.

The Cold War was going to happen just by the very nayure of the USSR occupying eastern Europe and us Western Europe.

58. True. Gehlen's 'work' at CIA fueled the hysteria...
...which in turn, fueled Cold War spending. The reason we won: The Soviets went bankrupt first.

Gehlen's bit in all that:

The Poisoned Well

by Werther*

At war's end, Gehlen surrendered to the Americans and made a startling proposition. He would provide the Americans with what they lacked: intelligence about their erstwhile ally, the Soviet Union. To newly-minted intelligence officers from Topeka and Paducah, this sounded like an arresting offer. By August 1945, the Americans were sufficiently intrigued to fly Gehlen, in the uniform of a U.S. Army general, to Washington in General Walter Bedell Smith's transport aircraft. He met with such "present at the creation" panjandrums as Allen Dulles and William Donavan.

The outlines of the deal are these: Gehlen would transfer his organization and its information into the American intelligence network. As indubitable anticommunists, their zeal to serve their new masters was self-evident. All Gehlen demanded in return was the following:

* Gehlen must have complete control over his organization's activities;

* He retained the right to approve U.S. liaison officers to the Organization;

* The Organization would only be used against the USSR and its client states;

* The Organization would become the official intelligence agency of a future West German state;

* The Organization would never be required to do anything Gehlen considered against German interests. <5>

As the reader can surely guess, the American authorities snapped at the bait like a starving barracuda. And the rest is history: Since the Gehlen Organization's sole claim to legitimacy was its purported knowledge of the Soviet Union, the Red Army perforce became 20 feet tall.

Threat Inflation: A German Import?

Elementary knowledge of human psychology suggests that once the United States Government ceased to be terrified by the Soviet military, the Organization would no longer have a privileged and well-paid function; its flunkies would accordingly be obliged to scratch a living through honest toil. That alternative being abhorrent, the U.S. Government received and disseminated the most baroque exaggerations of Soviet power - only a few years after the European USSR had been nearly leveled, with up to 27 million military and civilian deaths. Despite the fundamental weakness of the post-war Soviet Union (which Stalin attempted to conceal) Congress and the America public obtained a steady diet of scare stories:

* In 1948, U.S. intelligence purported to believe the Red Army could mobilize "320 line divisions" in 30 days. This at a time when millions of Soviets were living in holes in the soil of Western Russia, there being nothing better to house them.

* The same year, the Secretary of the Navy told Congress that Soviet submarine were "sighted off our coasts" - although the Office of Naval intelligence could offer no evidence of such sub sightings. Its own estimates said that the Soviet Navy would be unable to mount continuing, overseas operations until 1957.

* Air Force Secretary Stuart Symington claimed in Congressional hearings that the Soviet Air Force was superior to that of the U.S.

* The military governor of Germany in 1948, General Lucius Clay, wrote a letter that conveniently found its way to Congress, stating that it was his "feeling" that the Soviets were planning war. <6>

Where did these estimates come from? Did the Gehlen Organization, which was essentially the executive agent of U.S. intelligence in Eastern Europe, have anything to do with it? The CIA's reticence, right up to February of this year, to declassify its files regarding interaction with Nazi personages is telling. <7>

How Gehlen's handlers, the BFEE, benefitted from the Cold War, I submit exhibit "Team B."

A History of Threat Escalation
Remembering Team B

By Tom Barry | February 12, 2004

The most notorious attempt by militarists and right-wing ideologues to challenge the CIA was the Team B affair in the mid-1970s. The 1975-76 Team B operation was a classic case of threat escalation by hawks determined to increase military budgets and step up the U.S. offensive in the cold war. Concocted by right-wing ideologues and militarists, Team B aimed to bury the politics of dtente and the SALT arms negotiations, which were supported by the leadership of both political parties. 1

The historical record shows that the call for an independent assessment of the CIA's conclusions came from the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB--pronounced piffy-ab ). But the fear-mongering and challenges to the CIA's threat assessments--known as National Intelligence Estimates--actually started with nuclear strategist Albert Wohlstetter, who laid down the gauntlet in a 1974 Foreign Policy article entitled Is There a Strategic Arms Race? 2 Wohlstetter answered his rhetorical question negatively, concluding that the United States was allowing the Soviet Union to achieve military superiority by not closing the missile gap. Having inspired the Gaither Commission in 1957 to raise the missile gap alarm, Wohlstetter applied the same threat assessment methodology to energize hawks, cold warriors, and right-wing anticommunists in the mid-1970s to kill the politics of dtente and increase budget allocations for the Pentagon. Following his Foreign Policy essay, Wohlstetter, who had left his full-time position at RAND to become a professor at the University of Chicago, organized an informal study group that included younger neoconservatives such as Paul Wolfowitz and longtime hawks like Paul Nitze.

PFIAB, which was dominated by right-wingers and hawks, followed Wohlstetter's lead and joined the threat assessment battle by calling in 1975 for an independent committee to evaluate the CIA's intelligence estimates. Testimony by PFIAB President Leo Cherne to the House Intelligence Committee in December 1975 alerted committee members to the need for better intelligence about the Soviet Union. Intelligence cannot help a nation find its soul, said Cherne. It is indispensable, however, to help preserve the nation's safety, while it continues its search, he added. George Bush Sr., who was about to leave his ambassadorship in China to become director of intelligence at the CIA, congratulated Cherne on his testimony, indicating that he would not oppose an independent evaluation of CIA intelligence estimates.

Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Bush Support Team B

Joining in the chorus of praise, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Bechtel's president George Shultz also congratulated Cherne, implicitly adding their backing for an independent threat assessment committee. 3 Led by several of the board's more hawkish members--including John Foster, Edward Teller, William Casey, Seymour Weiss, W. Glenn Campbell, and Clare Booth Luce--PFIAB had earlier in 1975 called for an independent evaluation of the CIA's national intelligence estimates. Feeling that the country's nuclear weapons industry and capacity was threatened, PFIAB was aiming to derail the arms control treaties then under negotiation.

Shortly after President Gerald Ford appointed Bush to be the new director of intelligence, replacing the beleaguered William Colby, Bush authorized PFIAB's plan for an alternative review. The review consisted of three panels: one to assess the threat posed by Soviet missile accuracy; another to determine the effect of Soviet air defenses on U.S. strategic bombers; and a third--the Strategic Objectives Panel--to determine the Soviet Union's intentions. The work of this last panel, which became known as the Team B Report, was the most controversial. As Paul Warnke, an official at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency at the time of the Team B exercise, wrote: Whatever might be said for evaluation of strategic capabilities by a group of outside experts, the impracticality of achieving useful results by independent' analysis of strategic objectives should have been self-evident. Moreover, the futility of the Team B enterprise was assured by the selection of the panel's members. Rather than including a diversity of views ... the Strategic Objectives Panel was composed entirely of individuals who made careers of viewing the Soviet menace with alarm. 4

Team members included Richard Pipes (father of Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum) and William Van Cleave, both of whom would become members of the second Committee on the Present Danger, as well as Gen. Daniel Graham, whose "High Frontier" missile defense proposal foreshadowed President Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), or "Star Wars." The team's advisory panel included Paul Wolfowitz, Paul Nitze, and Seymour Weiss--all close associates of Albert Wohlstetter. 5 Although Richard Perle played no direct role in Team B, he was instrumental in setting it up. It was Perle who had introduced Richard Pipes, a Polish immigrant who taught Czarist Russian history at Harvard, to Sen. Henry Jackson, catapulting Pipes into a clique of fanatically anti-Soviet hawks. Pipes, who served as Team B's chairman, later said he chose Wolfowitz as his principal Team B adviser "because Richard Perle recommended him so highly." 6

40. I just wished that Hitler
had listened t Gehlen and evacuated the civilians before the Russian offensive of January 1945.

It might have gotten a few million women out of the way from what would become the largest number of rapes in the history of the world.

Htler was never one for accepting news he didn't like to hear though. He called Gehlen's report of Russian strength and intentions a fantasy and said Gehlen should have been sent to a lunatic asylum for producing it. It turned out to be incredibly accurate. Where the Russians attacked they did outnumber the defenders 11-1 in infantry, 7-1 in tanks, 20-1 in planes and 20-1 in artillery. It was millions of German girls and women who would pay the price.

I have Charles Whiting's book, "Gehlen: Germany's Master Spy". It's an interesting read though it's probably been 15 years since I've read it.

56. The Commies are guilty of the same crimes as NAZIs.
Totalitarian regimes both. Unforgivable, to harm millions of women -- most of whom were innocent of the evil that had befallen their country.

Thanks for the heads-up, yupster. I had imagined the Soviet occupation of eastern Germany was cruel, but had no idea of the scope of their barbarity.

The Soviet's treatment of the German civilian population was barbaric. As was the German's treatment of the Soviet civilian population and was the German's treatment of their own Jewish people and Jews and other civilians from across Europe and Africa. And the Japanese treatment of the British, Dutch and American civilian population in southeast Asia. And the American treatment of the German civilians in the Dresden firebombing. And the American treatment of the Japanese civilians in the firebombing of Tokyo and the A-Bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And almost every combination in between. My point is that war inherently is evil.

My father-in-law served as a navigator aboard a B-17. His family is second-generation American, emigres from Germany who settled in south Texas. During the war, he had to lead his plane on a bombing run to his family's home town. The guy has had to live with the thoughts that he helped drop bombs on his aunts, uncles and cousins.

And today, our United States is led by a man who thinks it's his moral duty to make war on a country that was innocent of any crime or even the intention, let alone capability, of making war against us. That's some NAZI stuff there.

57. Here's where their stooge Tricky Dick fits in...
From Mae Brussell comes Truth:

How Nixon Act ually Got Into Power

by Mae Brussell (C) The Realist, August 1972

The rise of Adolph Hitler and fascism in Germany was carefully planned. It began with the illegal rearmament of a covert army following defeat in World War I, which was an intentional, secretive breaking of the Versailles Treaty disarmament agreements. American munition manufacturers and industrialists aided the clandestine military leaders of Germany in their rearmament.(1)

Over four hundred political assassinations of legitimate government officials from various agencies in Germany took place during that period. These murders were necessary for the desired power and position the hidden German government needed.

German law courts, plus their Supreme Court, assisted the growing military regime from 1920-1933. Two governments, one official and legal, one clandestine and secretive, existed side by side, Hitler, front man and leader of the illegal arms, mistaken for comical by the intellectuals, was administered the oath as Chancellor of the German Reich January 30, 1933.

The rise of Richard Nixon in the United States was carefully planned. An illegal attitude towards the Versailles Treaty allowed American financiers to feed and support Germany's illegal rearmament. An illegal attitude toward the Geneva Accord was also approved by Dwight Eisenhower for Indochina in 1945.(2)

A study of our State department and espionage establishment reveals that we had clandestine, secret armies functioning both abroad and in the United States.(3)

Hundreds of political assassinations, plus the Supreme Court, have supported this clandestine government and military regime by lending their name to the concealment of the conspiracies to murder our leaders. They refuse to examine documents that exist, allow truth to remain locked in the National Archives on the basis of the lie, "national security."

Some say Brussell's work isn't perfect. True enough. But consider her times... Not many people then were standing up to ask the questions she did.

To me, this isn't history. Think of what happened to John F. Kennedy, Jr. and to Paul Wellstone.

PS: Thanks for the kick to the pants of the BFEE, oasis! Much obliged, my Friend!

66. Thanks, walldude! Hey! Didya ever wonder where all that loot went?
Here's a bit on the real Compassionate Conservative from the SpiritOne site:

Gold Fillings, Auschwitz and George Bush

On February 8, 1951, Thyssen died in Argentina. Following his death, the Alien Property Custodian released the assets of the Union Banking Corporation to Brown Brothers Harriman. The remaining shareholders quietly cashed in their remaining shares. Prescott Bush received $1.5 million for his share in Union Bankings blood money.

This brief article has only scratched the surface of the sordid association of Prescott Bush with the Nazis as he had yet a third company seized from him during the war. In his first run for senator, Prescott was defeated after his position within the eugenics movement was disclosed. George the poppy has followed in his fathers footsteps and retained many of the same family connections with the Nazis. For instance, as chairman of the Republican Party he presided over the formation of the Ethnic Heritage groups of the Republican Party. This was a reward for the Nazi quislings from Eastern Europe for helping in the election of Nixon as president. When two or more ethnic groups were vying for control over a particular group invariably the group with close ties to the Nazis won out. George also shows the same intense interest in population control. Perhaps it was for his beliefs in eugenics, George appointed Draper as his expert on population. Or perhaps it was more of a reward for past services rendered by Draper to the Bush family. Draper was the former general placed in control of the military governments economic division after the war. Draper was a rabid racist and member of the Eugenics Society. He was also a former employee of Dillion and Reed, the large Wall Street brokerage house that floated the largest German bond offerings including one for United Steel Works. In his position as economic czar of Germany, he stopped the dismantling of an I.G. Farben plant and was in the ideal slot to protect his former clients that armed Hitler, including Bush.

The same close associations are apparent with Bush junior. One interesting pattern in international relations is ready observed that the Israeli government moves to the hard right whenever a Bush is in the Oval Office. Considering, Israel has one of the best intelligence agencies in the world and a perhaps the most extensive data base on the holocaust, could the Israeli hard-liners be blackmailing the Bushes? Do they have a smoking gun that would at once end the political aspirations of the entire Bush clan as well as place the family wealth at risk for damages suffered during the Holocaust? One researcher already says the family wealth is at risk in such suits; the ties are that strong.

Any reasonable person understands that the tragedy of 9-11 was allowed to happen. Only the White House can order the interceptors to stand down, once an aircraft deviates from its flight plan or contact is lost. Within 30 minutes of the time the golfers plane that decompressed failed to follow directions from the control tower a fighter was alongside and shadowed the plane until it ran out of fuel and crashed in the midwest. The story that no fighters were available is simply a lot of bullshit. There are probably no less than a dozen or more airports within range of New York and Washington DC with fighter squadrons on standby. Yet, Bush wants us to believe that the entire East Coast was left unprotected with no fighters to provide air cover including the restricted airspace over the White House. The 9-11 tragedy was the Reichstag fire and the so-call Patriot Act, the enabling act for another fascist government.

With American blood about to stain the sands of the Mideast why hasnt the media focused on the merchant of death, who armed Saddam? They would need to look no further than George Bush, the poppy and Vice President Dick Cheney. Poppy Bush is rubbing his hands with glee counting potential profits for his Carlyle Group. The group holds stocks in defense industries that armed Saddam during the Reagan years and provided arms for the US military. This is the way the Bush family makes it money. Just ask Prescott. It didnt take Dick long to learn that secret. After the first Bush administration in which Cheney was the head of defense, he became head of Halliburton. While at Halliburton, Dick sold hundred of millions of dollars worth of dual use equipment to Iraq.

Stand behind the young soldiers and wave a flag for them, as they are mere canon fodder for this fascist clique. Dont wave a flag for the most corrupt administration in the history of the country thats hell-bent on installing a fascist regime beholding to no one other than corporate interests.

Your freedom depends on it.

68. Thanks for the kick, IL! Hey! Didja hear about 'CIA's Original Sin'
Here's what the record shows: NAZIs-R-CIA.

The CIA's Original Sin

By Martin A. Lee deleted Posted April 26, 2000.

For U.S. policy-makers the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on September 18th provides yet another opportunity for self-righteous, congratulatory proclamations about "winning the cold war." But the American public would be better served if U.S. officials marked this occasion by owning up to the CIA's original sin, which dates back to the spy agency's earliest days: its covert use of a Nazi spy network stuffed to the brim with war criminals.

U.S. spy chiefs opted to protect this ignominious cast of killers ostensibly so they could help fight a shadow war against the Soviet Union. But for the next five decades, this fateful decision had a deleterious impact on U.S. policy, as it paved the way for-and reinforced- Washington's tolerance for human rights violations and all manner of criminality in the name of anti-communism. The ongoing consequences of the CIA-Nazi tryst are evident today in a resurgent neofascist movement in Europe that can trace its ideological lineage back to Hitler's Reich through some of the men who served U.S. intelligence.

The key figure on the German side of this equation was General Reinhard Gehlen, a thin, bespectacled espionage prodigy who served as Hitler's top anti-Soviet spy. Hailing from a family of Prussian aristocrats, this mousy little Junker of five foot seven inches had sparse blonde hair, a toothbrush mustache, and huge ears that flared from his head like radar dishes. During World War II, he oversaw all German military-intelligence operations throughout Eastern Europe and the USSR.

As the war drew to a close, Gehlen correctly surmised that the antifascist coalition-an unlikely combination of Communist East and capitalist West-would not last long and that relations between the United States and the Soviet Union would quickly unravel. But U.S. foreign intelligence, by and large a wartime anti-Nazi improvisation, was ill-prepared to wage a clandestine campaign against the USSR.

Realizing that none of the Western Allies had a viable cloak-and-dagger network functioning in Eastern Europe, Gehlen decided to surrender to the Americans and offer himself as someone who could make a vital contribution to the forthcoming struggle against the Communists. He promised to turn over the vast espionage archive on the USSR that he had accumulated for Hitler. Plus, Gehlen said he could activate an underground army of battle-hardened anti-Communist assets who were well-placed to make mischief in Eastern Europe and the USSR.

Thanks for the kick, Independent_Liberal! Thanks also for giving a damn about our nation's future.

69. CIA: 'Capitalism's Invisible Army.' They wrote the book on 'Inside Trades'
There's good reason the name Dulles is associated with some scary stuff:

Dulles was there at the creation of the Versailles Treaty, which bankrupted the defeated Germany.

Dulles was there when Wall Street helped rearm Germany and Hitler.

Dulles was there when the Cold War needed the former NAZIs for fueling tensions with the Soviets.

Dulles was there when President John F. Kennedy was shot and buried.

Dulles means Traitor, in my book.

How the CIA ties to the business of War, Mike Ruppert submits this story, something we don't see in The Wall Street Journal:

by Michael C. Ruppert

< COPYRIGHT, 2001, Michael C. Ruppert and FTW Publications, . All Rights Reserved. May be reprinted or distributed for non-profit purposes only.>
FTW, October 9, 2001 - Although uniformly ignored by the mainstream U.S. media, there is abundant and clear evidence that a number of transactions in financial markets indicated specific (criminal) foreknowledge of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. In the case of at least one of these trades -- which has left a $2.5 million prize unclaimed -- the firm used to place the "put options" on United Airlines stock was, until 1998, managed by the man who is now in the number three Executive Director position at the Central Intelligence Agency. Until 1997 A.B. "Buzzy" Krongard had been Chairman of the investment bank A.B. Brown. A.B. Brown was acquired by Banker's Trust in 1997. Krongard then became, as part of the merger, Vice Chairman of Banker's Trust-AB Brown, one of 20 major U.S. banks named by Senator Carl Levin this year as being connected to money laundering. Krongard's last position at Banker's Trust (BT) was to oversee "private client relations". In this capacity he had direct hands-on relations with some of the wealthiest people in the world in a kind of specialized banking operation that has been identified by the U.S. Senate and other investigators as being closely connected to the laundering of drug money.

Krongard (re?) joined the CIA in 1998 as counsel to CIA Director George Tenet. He was promoted to CIA Executive Director by President Bush in March of this year. BT was acquired by Deutsche Bank in 1999. The combined firm is the single largest bank in Europe. And, as we shall see, Deutsche Bank played several key roles in events connected to the September 11 attacks.

Before looking further into these relationships it is necessary to look at the insider trading information that is being ignored by Reuters, The New York Times and other mass media. It is well documented that the CIA has long monitored such trades - in real time - as potential warnings of terrorist attacks and other economic moves contrary to U.S. interests. Previous stories in FTW have specifically highlighted the use of Promis software to monitor such trades.

It is necessary to understand only two key financial terms to understand the significance of these trades, "selling short" and "put options".

"Selling Short" is the borrowing of stock, selling it at current market prices, but not being required to actually produce the stock for some time. If the stock falls precipitously after the short contract is entered, the seller can then fulfill the contract by buying the stock after the price has fallen and complete the contract at the pre-crash price. These contracts often have a window of as long as four months.

"Put Options" are contracts giving the buyer the option to sell stocks at a later date. Purchased at nominal prices of, for example, $1.00 per share, they are sold in blocks of 100 shares. If exercised, they give the holder the option of selling selected stocks at a future date at a price set when the contract is issued. Thus, for an investment of $10,000 it might be possible to tie up 10,000 shares of United or American Airlines at $100 per share, and the seller of the option is then obligated to buy them if the option is executed. If the stock has fallen to $50 when the contract matures, the holder of the option can purchase the shares for $50 and immediately sell them for $100 - regardless of where the market then stands. A call option is the reverse of a put option, which is, in effect, a derivatives bet that the stock price will go up.

NO crimes were taking place. The bridge was in the middle of the staging area, and around ten swat-looking fascist types were on it with side arms and at least two of the lower rank officers had zoom lens, hi-dollar cameras taking pics of completely peaceful protestors.
You can take the Neo-Nazi characterization VERY seriously. This will affect jobs of any protestors in places to earn corporate salaries.
This is not new, same occured during the 1991 anti-Iraq war protest I may-have-but-not-declaring-I-actually attended.
