Mods? Any Way to have JUST ONE Forum on Rita so we can follow it?
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 10:01 AM by symbolman
It's getting kind of hard to follow the actions, no offense but people start talking about Japan and having a beer with Bush and to me that's just static, there are so many lives in peril here..

I like to think of the DU as a big think tank and that we can come up with ways to beat the right and help those in the Hurricane, even if they are DU'rs that need our props to keep them going right now..

How about just a forum for the Hurricane (or BOTH)? I know I should post this somewhere else on the site, not sure where..

Not to sound like a party pooper, but some of the talk could be taken to the lounge..

If I piss anyone off, apologies in advance... I'm not saying to not bash bush, etc, but threads like the Katrina Tapes are dropping like rocks and that some important stuff there..

WHat do you think?

1. Rita posts could be combed into a "Daily Rita" thread
rather like the "daily stock market watch" thread. Just brainstorming here.

2. good idea
I just want to know what's happening, or not happening on the ground in the next day or few..

Just a little more specific forum for this, it may change the course of this country's history today.

4. THat is a good idea.
I have been trying to find the latest on Rita this morning. The last report I could find was at 4 AM Pacific time. I sure would like to know if Rita is strenthening or weakening.

8. I don't mean to invalidate a lot of cool threads
I just want to get a play by play, buses burning, our pals in east Texas DU'rs that are SCARED and need us to consol..

Not to mention we can more likely catch FEMA screwing the pooch, etc..

5. Or even a generic disasters thread...weekly disaster thread?
At first, I was going to add that as a joke. A weekly-disaster thread forum. Then, it wasn't as funny. A Disaster-Of-The-Week thread. And it wouldn't be so bad, if the disasters weren't real disasters. But they are real disasters.

10. Too Vague: Bush is a weekly disaster.
And this too I think is partially a joke, but in the same way, he really is a real weekly disaster.

6. That is an AWESOME idea!
I know that on the Randi Rhodes message board they setup a whole folder for discussion on Katrina and it was easy to just go right there if you wanted to see just that topic. Very helpful.....

7. How about a Disasters caused by Global Warming Forum
It will then be automatically directed to the relevant disaster of the day.

9. Could there be an 'empty' forum that is bought out when the need arises?
Not sure where posts in it would go after it closes again but before the next hot topic starts but I'm sure that could be figured out.

11. We are discussing your idea.
We'll let you know what we come up with and if it's even possible. It was very difficult when we tried to do it during Katrina. :hi:

12. If it's just one thread, could we "pin it" to the top of the GD forum?
Please?

Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 10:16 AM by tyedyeto
beyond a couple hundred replies. Takes to long just to load the page.

Edit for typo

19. That's why it could work better as a seperate forum
choose the threads on the Hurricanes/Bush FEMA trickery you want, etc..

One huge thread would be like Katrina itself for the dialuppers :)

22. Can you deal with it by turning off images & avatars?
I turned off images a long while ago because people were making them way too big. It did not tax my broadband feed, but it annoyed me by filling up the page.
I could see that even 100 posts of text would get long-ish for the dial-uppers, though.

24. I know this place is gonna get real busy over the next
few days, it's like everyone wants to hang out in the kitchen here and talk about everything under the sun..

Ooops, now they are saying they didn't expect the levees to be flooding ALREADY..

this is going to be a monsterous time, a little too much history making all at once for me :)

Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 10:12 AM by symbolman
there are so many of them, plus little rays of sunshine ABRAMOFF singing like a canary, but this is a double whammy happening NOW ..

Thanks for thinking about it, you have a lot of cool cats to herd here :)

17. Not pinned forever, just while it's "necessary".
I realize there is no rocket science to apply here, but it seems useful to pin it up while Rita is having immediate impacts.

18. Actually I think we should have a Breaking Event forum
that is only open when something like this is going on(Katrina, protests, Rita.) Yes?

20. I've GOT it! (I think).
Pin a locked thread at the top of GD. It is just a link that will take you to the "disaster" forum.
