they keep saying that but i never saw any on TV till everybody on a roof was dead from 107* heat and thirst.. and i bet there are still corpses on roofs.. it is reported that there are corpses roadside but people are too busy making money to bury them

...there were guard troops in the superdome before Katrina struck. Why these troops wern't supplied with food and water for the people or why portable b-room facilities weren't provided is a question that needs to be asked.

2. No one thought they would be there as long as they were.

People were supposed to bring their own food and water for two days. Instead of taking them out after the hurricane passed, more were people sent into the Super Dome. Why were they made to stay? Why weren't they evacuated sooner? I think the answers to those questions are damning for Homeland Security. It is scenario they should have been aware of, have planned for.

The question, in my mind, is what can be better offered as a shelter of last resort. What supplies can reasonably be offered to those who take shelter? How do you identify the ones who can't leave on their own, but would if they could? Also, the problem with Gretna must be addressed. Can surrounding suburbs block people from fleeing a disaster?

I guess it all comes down to available resources and planning ahead. Realistically, NOLA couldn't evacuate so many people either before or after Kristina. And I'm guessing Governor Blanco was expecting the cavalry to be cresting the hill, instead they were heading off for Idaho. And Mississippi, well Barbour won't complain, but he is doing a great disservice to his people.
