NYC and its 9/11 victims have been victimized once again...
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 12:23 PM by DeepModem Mom
by Bush and his cabal's use of them for nefarious political purposes. I will pause every year and remember the 9/11 dead (some of whom I knew); and I will weep forever for that city, which is my home, and which suffers still from the effects of that day.

I was a bit upset when I posted an article about yesterday's remembrance in LBN, and did not get a single response. I hope we aren't blaming the victims, and their surviving families, for Bush's use of them.

Have we ourselves connected 9/11 and Iraq?

1. I object to people wearing 9/11 on their sleeves.
Too many do. Bush does it. Giuliani does it. Hugh Hewitt, Jeff Jarvis, Chris Hitchens and all sorts of 9/11 hawks do it.

Better we remember 9/11 in the quiet of our hearts and minds than collaborate in the Republicans' turning it into the dishonest spectacle they've turned it into.

2. I object to that also, very strongly. But the article I posted...
covered only the reading of the names of the dead by their siblings, and the lighting for one night of the beams of light where the towers stood in lower Manhattan.

I understand your position. I think we share the same anger for those who have not only exploited this tragedy politically, but used it to propel us into a war of even greater tragedy.

3. I agree with you.
I do think the victims of 9/11 have been victimized. The NY Post and other right wingers continue to victimize them, turning them into a monolithic political voice, which we know they are not.

This morning I saw that the Post was trying to claim the 9/11 families were upset because Fernando Ferrer accepted the endorsement of Al Sharpton yesterday. Now there probably were some assholes among the 9/11 families who believe nothing but "9/11" can take place on 9/11, but really, who cares except the Post and anyone who can't resist taking digs at Al Sharpton any day of the year?
