Mexican Marines Storming the Beaches of Mississippi

Did you all see the footage this afternoon of Mexican Marines coming up to the coast of Mississippi in a landing craft and storming onto a beach?

They're apparently here to help repair schools.

I had two immediate thoughts when I saw the kindness of our friends to the south on shore to offer assistance:

1. Please, please, go directly north to Washington DC and annex us!

2. Lou Dobbs and the Minutemen are having a collective heart attack right now.

This is the first time in over 150 years Mexican armed forces have crossed the Rio Grande. Yesterday, they crossed the border in 45 18-wheelers carrying fresh food to feed evacuees in San Antonio. They have enough to feed 7000 people 3 hot meals a day for a week. Largest Mexican take out delivery every. :-)

the last time Mexican Personnel was in the US was in 1946, you've heard of WW II

I think the commentator I heard was pointing out the significance of a large contingent of Mexican military crossing there. Particularly as a military convoy. I'll pass along your comments to NPR so they may correct the story they aired yesterday. ;-)

And yes, I have heard of WWII. My grandfather was a paratrooper in the 101st. Heard lots of stories.

the Mexican Army used to send units to march in the Washington's Birthday Celebrations by invitation from Laredo. This continued until sometime in the 1970s.
