Republicans blast response to Katrina

WASHINGTON - Republican members of Congress from the St. Louis area are sharply questioning the leadership of President George W. Bush and his administration's ability to protect the nation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Their concerns range from the slow response by federal agencies to the catastrophe in New Orleans to the president's actions in the days following the levee breaches that flooded the city a week ago.

2. They DEFINATELY do...
...the air here in Saint Louis has definately changed. Went to the Japenese Festival at the Botanical Gardens. Big yuppie draw, lots of pubs from the burbs. EVERYONE was talking about the catastrophically poor response of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. I kept hearing snippets of conversation...

"Did you know that guys job before FEMA was being an Arabian Horse manager?"

"He was eating cake and playing guitar, doing fundraisers. It just looks REALLY bad. If Rove is such a genius, why'd he let them do that."

I heard a couple people trying to bring up RW talking points, but what was great, is that the other people in the conversations were quickly and forcefully debunking their bullshit.

And with Saint Louis having some of the same issues and challenges as our sister down the Mississippi, there's a palpable sense of the injustice and cruelty of Bush's response. Any politician in Saint Louis that doesn't take it to heart will not be working in government within the next two years.
