My letter to the Ed. about progressive radio was FINALLY published!
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 04:33 PM by Gloria
Back on June 16, a former local host who had a show only on Saturdays because he was "liberal" wrote a column in which he stated that Dems/liberals were "weinies" and probably couldn't succeed on talk radio. It was meant as a joke, but really was rather ....stupid.

Taking umbrage in a good-natured way, I wrote a letter saying that great liberal hosts were out there on the INTERNET, mentioning Malloy and Rhodes (incl their streaming sites) and adding a plug of my Radio for Progressives page. (I many start posting a "Site of the Day" here at DU so people know how much is actually out there!)

About a week ago, I get a call to confirm I wrote it. Then, about 3 days later the durn thing appears under the title "Progressive Radio." Alas, they had my URL WRONG, but they did have the Malloy/Rhodes addresses correct. I said both presented exciting shows which challenged the listener to know the facts and I mentioned that Rhodes was wiping out Limbaugh in the ratings IN ALL DEMOGRAPHICS!! And, they definitely were NOT WEINIES!

I sent my correct URL, but I haven't seen a correction and probably won't since this is the infamous Las Cruces Sun-News....

However, I feel really good about getting Malloy and Rhodes some press!!!

2. I had a letter published on that recently...
Some wingut wrote to complain about "liberals" who are challenging the "only" conservative media.

I wrote back (letter published in 2 days!):

*Mainstream media's conservative, given the way they trashed Al Gore in the elections.

*Look at Arbitron, stupids. If you're not a male over 55, chances are you don't listen to Talk Radio.

*Ditto for Faux News.

*Look at the hits the BBC & Guardian websites are getting. Rush Limb-balls would die for those numbers.

*There's an underserved market for centrist to left of center media. And that's why it's coming.

*Some folks really want "fair and balanced" media.
