Did Gov. Barbour sign over HIS NG?
It suddenly occurred to me to ask. Blanco was asked to sign over control of her National Guard. Was Barbour? Did he?

7. I am glad she hasn't. She must have some great back up. Who's
helping her? Consulting her?

Hard to go against such pressure. I'm proud of her!

11. Blanco has hired Clinton's old FEMA director
so I think she's in good hands with the advisement.

Blanco needs to know that the more Bush fucks her over the more the rest of the world will reach out to help her!

Hold strong Gov. Blanco

9. Gov. Barbour is from Mississippi & is rethuglican
The poster wanted to know if the same pressure was being put on him as is being placed on Gov. Blanco of LA. It is also important to know just for knowing if Mississippi has federalized their NG, and just what are the intentions of bush*inc.

8. Judging from the way Barbour was fondling Bush's sleeve just now,

I'd say the only answer we'll ever hear from Barbour is the one that makes GW Bush look good. He'll lie if he has to.

13. Ok, I didn't find the answer yet, but...
I did find this article from Aug 14. In this article, Haley Barbour was telling the Pentagon to get its hands off his NG.

The Pentagon was saying they had control of the NG planes deployed at NG sites all over the US, and the state gov's are saying 'no, you can't touch them'. Surprise! The Justice Dept comes out and says the Pentagon is right... the whole thing was supposed to go before a panel on Sept 8th...

Barbour challenging plan to move planes

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is among a growing number of state leaders who have told Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld to keep his hands off the 186th Air Refueling Wing, a National Guard Unit stationed at Meridian's Key Field.

Last month, Barbour wrote Rumsfeld that neither he nor Gen. Harold Cross, the leader of Mississippi's National Guard, had been consulted about the Air Force's plan to distribute the refueling wing's KC-135's to National Guard bases in Wisconsin, Tennessee and Maine.

They say the Pentagon has no authority over any National Guard unit unless it's called up for active duty. They also have argued that moving the planes would hurt homeland security and make it harder to retain and recruit new Guard members.

On Friday, the Justice Department responded to the Pennsylvania suit, agreeing with the Pentagon that permission from governors like Barbour isn't needed for the military to move Air National Guard unit planes.

17. Of course not
And please I find the phrase offensive but you will get my point - Barbour is keeping his "poor" in line, e.g. they haven't been talking to the media. MS does a better job of keeping minorities out of governemnt, including uppity women.
