Unemployment assistance for everyone: Labor Sec. Chao
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 09:23 AM by tjdee
(on edit: for everyone affected by Katrina) Hate to say I heard this on FOX, but I fell asleep with the tv on and there it was.

Secretary Chao says that 24 weeks of unemployment will be given, and for people not usually eligible, if you're self-employed or newly employed, they will get a "disaster assistance" type of thing. She said some of the requirements will be waived since some left their ID, etc. at their home/it has been destroyed.

And of course the asshole Fox reporter went "Well, we hope people don't take advantage of this."

The freepers' heads will explode over all this money--except unemployment is probably not covering what most people need, since mortgage companies are telling people to send in their payments as they "normally would" and Ford is giving them a whole two missed car payments.

Here's the link to the DOL page:
http://www.dol.gov/opa/hurricane-recovery.htm
The number is 1-866-4-USA-DOL (1-866-487-2365)
(Which was funny when she said it, because she said obviously some don't have access to a phone, but maybe a friend could tell them :eyes: )

1. Fox said what!!!
They hope people won't take advantage of unemployment assistance?

What kind of asshole would say something like that? People will have no other choice if they want to survive.

2. Since they will be waiving some of the requirements, some people
*could* try to get in on it even if they're not eligible. That's probably what that reporter was thinking--you know, what with Reagan's welfare queens and all.

5. Puhleez...
More likely they meant it as the other poster was thinking--"They're all lazy welfare bums that don't deserve a dime since it's their own fault". Typical "I don't want MY money going to 'THOSE' people" freeper mentality (doubly so since this is FauxNews we're talking about)

4. She didn't specify NO...I got the impression she was talking about
Katrina victims. But being a Bush appointee I have to wonder where the loop is.
