Guiliani would have freaked in NO---Jeb would have evacuated
Sorry, lurking Republicans....but, on 9/11 a few blocks of New York city were destroyed. Nobody tried to make light of that freaking disaster---but, it was a relatively (now) small area to contain and deal with.

All I remember about Guiliani on that day was his street walking cheerleading routine...he was not at any "central command post" taking charge of the situation.

Your beloved leader was flying around willy nilly on Air Force One, with the press following his every move. The terrorists didn't want him; hell even my mother knew where that clown was that morning...it was all over the news.

Back to Guiliani....yeah, he LOOKED seriously cool that day...running around, looking for all he was worth like some suited action figure out of a movie...he gave me warm fuzzies too at the moment.

However, there is NO walking around during a hurricane...or in a flood. The damage in NY was done in hours...the damage in NO took days with the flooding.

Guiliani also had resources that were immediately available...the hurricane victims had shit.

Spare me the Guiliani crap....

1. Whe all is said and done, This debacle by DHS will be at least twice
as bad as 9/11.

By that, I mean that at a minimum twice as many people were killed by the Department of Homeland Security in New Orleans as were killed by terrorists in New York on 9/11.

6. Aw Jeez -- This Is 9/11 Cubed
Only a few percent of this nation has any idea what we're looking at here. This is like having your belly slashed wide open and your guts haven't spilled out yet.

4. 9/11 was a show - FEMA was already in place
FEMA arrived on 9/10 to participate in a large-scale exercise. They had a command and control post already set up and were able to go from an exercise to a real emergency event without much problem. The FEMA people didn't know 9/11 was a staged event, they just thought it was fortuitous that they were running an exercise on the same day the "terrorists" attacked.

7. Imagine
if Harlem and the Bronx and all of northern Manhattan Island were under 25 feet of water. Guliani would've sat and cried like a 2-year-old.

10. No, he wouldn't have...his rich white ass would be in a wealthy
area of New Jersey that could be photographed with the skyline of NY in the background to make it APPEAR that he was still in NYC...and with that backdrop, he would be doing his warm 'n fuzzy cheerleading routine...with TONS of federal, local, and state help on the ground to take care of his sorry ass.

8. My sentiments exactly.

The two incidents are so vastly different that proposing that Giuliani would somehow be some savior in New Orleans is preposterous.

Unless Giuliani is some magician who can go back in time and do what every politician should've lobbied to do for New Orleans in the past...take care of poor people's needs...then there's no sense even talking about him. Besides, Giuliani is a pathetic self-serving stooge for the worst part of the Republican Party. He creams his jeans at any opportunity to make fun of "lesser" Democrats. Remember the convention?

Recommended and nominated.

9. Any NYC mayor would have been deemed heroic....
under the circumstances. You are correct.

Ten minutes after the second plane hit I thought: uh-oh, perpetual media sainthood for Guiliani and two terms for Bush.

The second is the more profound tragedy; 3000 people died on 9-11 but tens of thousands have died... and will die... as a result of Bush's second term.

11. Yes, I wonder how many of those Freepers have been to Manhattan
The WTC was visible all over the NY area, but it actually covered a small plot of ground. At the time I had a client whose office was about thirty blocks from the towers, and he told me that although they could see the fires and the collapse from their office window, their part of town suffered no effects except for seeing all the fleeing people walking north.

People could easily walk and ferry and even drive out of the affected area, and when they got to their homes, the main effect they found was that over-the-air TV transmission was knocked out. (Cable was fine.) Almost all of New York City had electricity, and everyone had uncontaminated running water. Almost everyone who was not killed outright was rescued within 24 hours.

(Remember how all the hospitals in NYC braced themselves for a rush of critically injured patients who never came?)

For most of the NYC area, the damage caused by the attack on the World Trade Center was more psychological than physical.

In contrast, the part of the country ravaged by Hurricane Katrina is larger than many of the world's nations.

12. guiliani was hated in NY
Before 9/11, Guiliani was cooked in NY.
Most NY'ers were fed up with his bigshot BS routine.
We could probably substantiate this somewhere on the web, but I believe his approval ratings were very low on 9/10.
