The people of Arkansas have sent 20 truckloads of supplies.
Beginning Tuesday morning, August 30th, the radio stations for which I work mounted a relief drive for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. At the end of the first day, one 18-wheeler rolled out of the parking lot in Little Rock, bound for Baton Rouge.

By the end of the second day, ten more trucks had been loaded full and sent to Baton Rouge.

By the end of the third day, Arkies had dispatched another nine truckloads of supplies to our neighbors on the Gulf Coast. I do not know how many more trucks were filled and sent off today, because I have finally gone home for a while.

It has been a humbling thing to watch the people of "ignorant, barefoot, backwoods Arkansas" roll into the parking lot from 6:00 AM until 9:00 PM with food and water for our neighbors who have been utterly abandoned by the bu$h regime. The only thing more impressive than this is the amount of volunteers who have shown up--unbidden--to help load the trucks.

I don't want to see another goddamn word on DU about the supposed bigotry of The South.

Remember New Orleans.

5. I would so NOT be surprised!
I can only speak for my small portion of Little Rock. It looks like Woodstock out in the parking lot!

3. Arkansas is a great state
My grandparents came from there, and no more open-minded, decent people (liberal Democrats, btw) existed on this planet.

4. Well, I certainly appreciate what Arkansas has done.
And I understand your anger and frustation. Hey, I live in Texas. We get bashed early and often, even here. It's nice to get some recognition for all the hard work people in TX did at Camp Casey I & II this month and now with the evacuees coming to cities including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin. So, yeah, I can see exactly where you're coming from.

Thanks for everything, Arkansas!

6. I haven't seen anything about Southerners being bigoted at this time.
All those pointing the finger of bigotry is going to Washington and the federal people involved.

9. Brotherman, you are doing ten times more than bu$h.
When all else fails, go help 'em load the trucks. That's worth at LEAST as much as money, for you will have put your back behind your words. Blessed Be!

Remember New Orleans.
